Quick Transmigration: The Mad Beauty Refuses to Be the Scapegoat!-Chapter 369 - 19: This Fish Pond’s Cannon Fodder Is Contracted
Everyone felt a sense of unease, and the Little Mermaid locked in the fish tank on the deck suddenly began to thrash about restlessly.
Everyone on the ship felt a sharp pain in their ears, like a needle stirring inside, while eerie waves rippled across the calm sea surface not far away. Jiang Lai noticed this and slowly picked up the intercom in her hand.
"Both teams underwater, prepare yourselves. Targets are approaching."
Zhou Wenjin stood beside Jiang Lai, watching her calmly giving commands.
"How did you know they were here?"
"Because I can understand what they’re saying."
Zhou Wenjin thought she was joking, feeling a bit nervous from the threat closing in from all directions, yet he maintained a steady gaze at the horizon.
"These mermaids, they do have quite the ambitions."
"Mermaids are half-human after all, so their greed is just as insatiable."
They had used bait to lure out Jiang Lai’s position, and here she was, willingly delivering herself to them.
At that moment, under the shroud of mist and rain, dozens of fins sliced through the waves with incredible speed, rushing toward the giant ship from all around.
The voice came through the intercom.
"Chief, targets sighted, requesting permission to fire."
"No need, they’re just sharks. Focus on safety, and wait for my orders to shoot."
All weapons on the deck were trained on the sea surface, and Jiang Lai raised her hand to signal to wait for her command.
Zhou Wenjin tensed up beside her; after all, the looming threat from the sea seemed every bit like a mermaid attack, yet Jiang Lai confidently stated they were just sharks.
"Shark fins don’t look like that. Are you sure they’re just sharks?"
Jiang Lai nodded.
Zhou Wenjin couldn’t figure out where Jiang Lai’s confidence came from; with visibility obscured by the mist and rain pattering on the sea, she maintained her calm and steady demeanor as if in a lab, directing everything smoothly.
After waiting for some time, the sea indeed calmed once again, and those underwater could see clearly that they really were just sharks, though their fins had been modified, evidently to cause confusion.
Only a species with greater strength and intelligence than sharks, like the mermaids, could control and manipulate them underwater.
Just then, another rapid movement emerged from beneath the sea, identical waves forming around the ship as before.
"Chief, it looks like another wave of sharks."
"Deploy the luminous agents. All departments prepare for firing."
With Jiang Lai’s command, everyone sprang into action, tossing luminous agents into the sea. The next second, the previously murky and chaotic seascape lit up with streaks of rapidly moving blue light, akin to lanterns illuminating the sea depths.
Electric guns immediately targeted the fast-moving blue lights below the surface and started firing crazily.
Simultaneously, bone spikes pierced through the water, aiming for those inside the cage. Just as the spikes were about to pierce their targets’ hearts, huge nets suddenly dropped over the cage, made of special metal with a dense mesh that caught the spikes, rendering them harmless.
Anyone who hit their target pulled on the ropes attached to them, and as the cage was slowly hoisted upward by the winches, an electrocuted mermaid was lifted from the water.
One by one, they were hauled onto the deck, their dorsal fins still raised defiantly. Researchers behind Jiang Lai stepped forward, injecting the mermaids with pre-prepared neurotoxins.
"Take them away."
Zhou Wenjin was speechless for a long moment, overwhelmed by the scene unfolding before him.
These were no longer the fierce and frightening mermaids they once feared, but indiscriminate catches, easier than sea fishing.
Soon, the mermaids realized close-range attacks were impossible. The next moment, the ship’s hull resounded with chilling crashing noises as if large creatures were ramming it, causing the entire vessel to rock and creak ominously.
People on deck could barely stand, though Jiang Lai, holding onto the railing, remained unaffected.
"Chief, approximately three mermaids detected violently ramming the hull, with another dozen waiting nearby."
"It’s fine, let them keep ramming."
In the past, giant ships capsized because of the terrifying power of mermaid charges, capable of punching holes in a few minutes, and once seawater flooded the cabins, it was a feast for the mermaids.
This time, mermaids launched attacks on the ship’s hull, fueled by anger and hatred, their strength formidable. The steel plates of the hull deformed after a few hits, more mermaids joining to ram together, as people onboard felt like they were on a little wooden boat, rocking back and forth. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Many looked at Jiang Lai, their expressions uneasy.
"Chief, if we don’t act, they’ll breach the hull in less than a minute."
"No worries, I worry they won’t break it."
Zhou Wenjin was baffled and shocked, questioning Jiang Lai’s intentions. If the hull breaks, they would be in grave danger.
Or had Jiang Lai arranged rescue ships already?
As the words left his mouth, crew members from the lower decks rushed onto the deck.
"Chief, just as you expected, the first layer of the steel hull has been breached!"
Jiang Lai nodded and looked at Zhou Wenjin.
"It’s about time to close the net."
Meanwhile, the mermaids, having worked tirelessly to breach the hull, had no time to rejoice when a green liquid suddenly poured from the fissure, enveloping them swiftly.
The next second, the mermaids under the ship started twitching and writhing, as electric guns fired, effortlessly hauling the mermaids onto the deck.
One by one, they lay sprawled across the entire deck.
Researchers took advantage of their powerless state, injecting toxins and cutting their dorsal fins one by one.
Jiang Lai walked to one of the mermaids, bent down, lips moving silently, yet the mermaid’s blue eyes widened, pupils constricted.
"I gave you a chance."
The mermaid couldn’t believe hearing its language from a human. After regaining composure, Jiang Lai pointed to a sea area not far away.
