Pursuing Her Best Friend after Confession Failed-Chapter 358 - 158: Seeing Zhong Tingyue Again, Li Yuan’s Explanation_4
Fortunately, it was 2008, and not many people owned private cars. After a two-hour drive, Li Yuan finally arrived in Sucheng. As the top prefecture-level city in Huaxia, Sucheng was massive.
Gazing at the endless rows of skyscrapers, Li Yuan pulled the car over. The phone line to Zhong Tingyue had been open the entire trip, though she hadn’t made a sound. He spoke into the phone, "Little Moon, I’ve arrived in Sucheng. Tell me where you are. I want to see you."
...
On the other end of the line, Zhong Tingyue sat blankly on the balcony, listening to the voice coming from her phone. A sudden mix of nervousness, anticipation, a surge of warmth, and an inexplicable heartache rose within her, only for her to mercilessly crush the feeling. As she listened to Li Yuan’s repeated questions, a hint of life returned to her eyes. She still couldn’t bring herself to cut ties with Li Yuan completely.
She spoke softly, "Nanshan District, Duhui Xingchen Residential Area."
Li Yuan’s voice came quickly from the other end. "Mm, Little Moon, wait for me. I’ll be right there."
This time, Zhong Tingyue hung up.
By her side, Gu Lanxin came over, patting her on the shoulder. "He’s coming?" she asked softly.
Zhong Tingyue nodded. "Mhm."
A gleam flashed in Gu Lanxin’s eyes. She was eager to see just how outstanding her precious daughter’s boyfriend was—the one who could drive her to a hunger strike. "Little Moon, give him a chance to explain. Meet with him before you decide anything, so you don’t have regrets in the future."
Zhong Tingyue still nodded lightly. But Gu Lanxin, being more experienced in the ways of the world, could see a spark of light return to her daughter’s eyes, a stark contrast to her previous, zombie-like state.
As the mother and daughter waited, just over half an hour passed before Zhong Tingyue’s phone rang again. Gu Lanxin’s sharp eyes noticed the contact name on Zhong Tingyue’s phone: "Senior." She chuckled to herself. The love story between my daughter and this boy really is quite interesting.
Over the phone, Li Yuan’s breathless voice came through. "Little Moon, I’m at your residential area. Which building are you in?"
Zhong Tingyue didn’t answer. She struggled to get up, nearly stumbling to the floor, but Gu Lanxin quickly steadied her.
Zhong Tingyue peered over the balcony and looked outside. Down below, a young man stood anxiously looking around, a bouquet of flowers in one hand, a gift in the other, and his phone cradled between his ear and shoulder.
Seeing Li Yuan’s anxious expression, the corners of her lips curved into a smile that vanished as quickly as it appeared.
Gu Lanxin joined Zhong Tingyue at the window. As she looked down at Li Yuan, her eyes lit up, and she nodded in silent approval. No wonder my daughter has her heart set on this young man, she thought. His wealth aside, his personal qualities alone are enough to attract the affection of many girls. Combine that with the fact that he’s a talented millionaire, and I can’t imagine any girl who could resist his charm. It would be stranger if such an outstanding young man *didn’t* have beautiful girls fawning over him.
Zhong Tingyue hadn’t said a word, her gaze fixed on the scene below. It was as if they shared a telepathic link; Li Yuan’s gaze also turned toward her. Immediately after, the mother and daughter saw Li Yuan jogging toward their building. Before Zhong Tingyue could react, his voice came through the phone, "Little Moon, wait for me at home. I’ll be right up."
...
Gu Lanxin gently stroked Zhong Tingyue’s head. "Little Moon," she comforted softly, "since he’s here, just face him directly and wait for his explanation. By the way, does he know which floor we’re on?"
Zhong Tingyue shook her head.
Gu Lanxin was inwardly speechless. Fortunately, the complex she lived in was one of Sucheng’s high-end developments. Her building only had twelve floors, and she lived on the sixth, so it shouldn’t be too hard for him to find.
The mother and daughter sat on the sofa, their eyes periodically glancing toward the front door. The atmosphere in the room suddenly grew tense.
Time ticked by. They didn’t have to wait long before a knock sounded at the door.
Gu Lanxin quickly stood up. "Little Moon, he’s here," she said with a smile. "I’ll get the door."
Zhong Tingyue opened her mouth to speak but stopped herself. Ultimately, she didn’t stop her mother, just watched as she went to the door. Perhaps deep down, she too was eagerly anticipating Li Yuan’s arrival.
The moment Gu Lanxin opened the door, she saw a tall young man waiting anxiously outside. He held a bouquet of flowers, and his forehead was covered in a fine sheen of sweat. The moment Li Yuan saw her, he knew who she was. She and Zhong Tingyue looked as if they were cast from the same mold.
"Hello, Auntie. I’m Li Yuan, Tingyue’s boyfriend."
Gu Lanxin studied Li Yuan closely, nodding to herself. In her eyes, his looks and build are both top-tier. He’s also a student from a prestigious Project 985 university, far superior to those ignorant, second-generation heirs in their circle.
"Li Yuan, she’s inside," she said. "Whatever is between you two, say it to her face."
