Pursuing Her Best Friend after Confession Failed-Chapter 350 - 156 Li Zixia: Two Sisters-in-law, Which Side Should I Stand On?_3
Her beautiful imagination of love was mercilessly shattered. Li Zixia held her phone, silent and stunned, as the haunting sounds from the adjacent bedroom gradually faded away.
It’s over. I’m definitely not getting any sleep tonight.

That night, after the sudden downpour ceased, Li Yuan held the feverish, bonelessly soft Xia Zhijin in his arms. He wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, feeling a twofold sense of satisfaction, both psychological and physical.
"Zhijin, are you alright?"
Xia Zhijin hummed shyly in response.
Although she had long anticipated this moment, when it finally arrived, she still felt a transcendence of both body and soul. According to her grandmother, a woman could only have one man in her life. After taking this step, they were considered "husband and wife," just like her parents. Once they graduated from university, they would get married, have a simple wedding, and then bring a few little babies into the world to continue the legacy of life...
Li Yuan gently stroked Xia Zhijin’s head, kissed her forehead, and said with a smile, "Zhijin, it will be much better after you get some rest."
The feeling Xia Zhijin gave him was unique; it gave him a taste for more. Between his past life and this one, Li Yuan had dated many women, but he had to admit this felt entirely different.
In his last life, he had no choice. He had played the field and had many relationships, but he never married.
Xia Zhijin lay obediently in Li Yuan’s arms and nodded shyly. She was very compliant. Li Yuan was very, very good to her, and she didn’t know what more she could do for him other than give him her everything.
Seeing how obedient she was, Li Yuan affectionately stroked her head.
"Good girl, Zhijin," he chuckled.
"Mhm," Xia Zhijin snuggled closer...

That night, Li Yuan was exhausted from teaching Xia Zhijin, a complete novice at "poker." As for Xia Zhijin, it was her first time playing, and to satisfy Li Yuan’s every demand, she silently endured his weight of nearly 180 pounds, her small frame struggling to hold on...
That rotten Li Yuan, that awful Li Yuan... isn’t he going to let anyone sleep? From dusk till dawn... is it really that addictive?

The next day, bright and early, Li Zixia stumbled out of bed, her eyes bleary and rimmed with dark circles. She shot the vibrant-looking Li Yuan an unfriendly glare.
Li Yuan was baffled by her stare and frowned. "Zixia, what’s with that look? It’s as if I owe you a fortune."
Li Zixia looked at her brother, his idol-like image now shattered, and desperately wanted to tell him about her conversation with Bai Weixi last night. But a glance at the bedroom told her it wasn’t a good time to talk.
"Brother, isn’t Zhijin up yet?"
"She’s not feeling well," Li Yuan replied awkwardly. "Let her rest a bit."
Last night, he and Xia Zhijin had played three rounds of "poker." It would have been a miracle if her delicate body could take it.
Remembering the intermittent sounds that had lasted until morning, Li Zixia rolled her eyes at Li Yuan and muttered, "You’re such a beast, Brother."
Li Yuan chuckled. "What does a kid like you know? Being a beast is better than being less than one."
Li Zixia pouted. Her brother always treated her like a child, but she was a young woman now. Some of her female classmates had already been in a few relationships.
After breakfast, Li Yuan had planned to go with Xia Zhijin to buy clothes and gifts for her grandmother, Xia Zhining, and her uncles. But since Xia Zhijin couldn’t get out of bed, he had to postpone the trip until the afternoon. Their flight was booked for the morning of October 6th, so they still had plenty of time.
As Li Yuan was admiring the view from the balcony, Li Zixia snuck up to him and whispered, "Brother, I want to ask you something."
Li Yuan smiled faintly. "If you have something to say, just say it. Why all the secrecy?"
Li Zixia peeked at the bedroom. Confident that Xia Zhijin couldn’t hear them, she whispered into Li Yuan’s ear, "Brother, I was chatting with your old high school flame, Bai Weixi, last night."
Li Yuan’s body went rigid. He whipped his head around to stare directly at his sister, his brows furrowed. "Zixia, how did you contact her?"
Startled by his reaction, Li Zixia clutched her chest. "Jeez, Brother, you were so scary just now," she complained.
Realizing he had overreacted, Li Yuan tried to compose himself and asked, feigning casualness, "So you know?"
"Yeah, she told me everything." Li Zixia nodded and explained in a low voice, "Last night, I was bored and scrolling through the comments on your QQ Space when I saw one from Bai Weixi. I felt like something was off, so I added her as a friend. She told me you two are together and that you even met her parents a few days ago..."
Finishing in a single breath, Li Zixia watched Li Yuan’s expression shift unpredictably as she voiced her confusion. "Brother, you and Weixi were high school classmates. You pursued her for three years, and she finally agreed to be with you. So why did you have to go after Zhijin, too? If she found out, she would be heartbroken. Don’t you get it? You’re the only one in her heart. Why would you do this to such a good girl?
"You’ve always been my perfect idol. Why would you choose to be a scumbag and hurt two girls?"
After her outburst, Li Zixia stared intently at Li Yuan, awaiting his response.
Faced with his sister’s interrogation, Li Yuan was at a loss for words. He wanted to explain, but any reason he could think of seemed pale and weak. Besides, it wasn’t just Bai Weixi and Xia Zhijin. There was also Zhong Tingyue and Jiang Zhiyu. He couldn’t very well say, ’I was reborn, became disillusioned with love, and now I just want to be a scumbag,’ could he?
"Brother, why aren’t you saying anything? Even if I keep quiet, Zhijin and Weixi will find out eventually. All they’d have to do is look a little closer, and they’d know about each other."
Disappointment washed over Li Zixia as she looked at him. With her idol’s image shattered, she suddenly felt her brother wasn’t so perfect after all. In fact, he was even a little repulsive.
"How do you plan to handle their relationship? Surely you don’t intend to have it both ways?
"Weixi and Zhijin are both so beautiful and exceptional. They wouldn’t be short of other suitors, so why would they ever be willing to share a boyfriend?
"Or are you just playing around? Planning to use them up and then kick them to the curb?"
Li Yuan looked at the furious, eloquent Li Zixia, his brow furrowed as he replied coldly, "Zixia, stay out of my business. You don’t understand matters of the heart."
Li Zixia stared back stubbornly. "Hmph. I may not understand what you’re thinking, but I hope you handle this properly. Please, don’t let Zhijin get hurt.
"She’s already had such a hard life, and you’re her pillar of support. I can’t even imagine how dark her world would become if she found out the truth.
"Brother, I’m begging you. Please, you have to promise me you won’t let Zhijin get hurt."
Li Yuan stood silently, a heavy feeling settling in his chest, and he was suddenly overwhelmed with irritation. He had always known this day would come; he just hadn’t wanted to face it. He figured that once the deed was done, it might give him some leverage when the inevitable battleground erupted. At the very least, he wouldn’t have any regrets.
Looking at Li Zixia’s dead-serious expression, Li Yuan sighed in resignation. "Give me some time. I’ll figure out a way to handle it."
Li Zixia nodded, then added, "Brother, I told Weixi I’m in Modu. She said she wants to come visit me."
