Pursuing Her Best Friend after Confession Failed-Chapter 332 - 151 Heading to Shancheng, Xia Zhijin Moved to Tears_2
Li Zixia laughed with delight. "Zhijin, my brother must be back."
The anxiety Xia Zhijin had been feeling instantly melted away.
Li Yuan pushed the door open and saw Li Zixia rushing toward him like a young swallow returning to its nest. His gaze then fell upon Xia Zhijin, who stood nearby looking graceful and full of anticipation.
Li Yuan patted Li Zixia on the head and explained with a smile, "I’ve been tied up with company matters these past few days and went out to negotiate a contract, which took some time."
Li Zixia muttered, speaking up for Xia Zhijin, "My dear brother, even if you aren’t worried about me, your actual sister, you should still spend more time with and take better care of the beautiful Zhijin. I don’t even know what Zhijin sees in you. You’re always so busy. You seem even busier than the President of the Ugly Country."
Fearing Li Yuan might misunderstand, Xia Zhijin quickly explained, "Zixia, your brother is busy with important matters. I’m fine."
Li Yuan felt a pang of awkwardness and guilt. If this innocent girl ever found out that he’d spent the last two days accompanying two different women to deliver sports cars, he couldn’t imagine how she would react.
"Zhijin, Zixia, do a quick final pack. We’re going to the airport now to fly to Shancheng."
Upon hearing they were actually going to Shancheng, Li Zixia’s previous dissatisfaction immediately vanished.
"Brother, Zhijin and I have been packed and ready for ages, just waiting for you to come back."
Saying this, Li Zixia ran to the bedroom, pushing out two suitcases and various large and small bags.
Li Yuan was rendered speechless. "Zixia, we’re only going to be in Shancheng for a few days. Why did you bring so much? If we’re missing anything, we can just buy it there. It’s inconvenient to bring so many clothes. Just pack a change of outfits. Shancheng is a big city; it has everything."
Li Zixia glanced at Xia Zhijin, who glanced back. The two beauties, one older and one younger, exchanged a look before pushing the suitcases back into the bedroom to repack...
...
Since they were flying, Li Yuan didn’t drive. He took Li Zixia and Xia Zhijin outside, hailed a taxi, and headed for Modu Airport.
Having flown several times in his past life, Li Yuan felt no novelty, only the slight discomfort of weightlessness.
For Xia Zhijin and Li Zixia, however, it was their very first time on a plane. They were a bundle of nerves and curiosity, asking one question after another.
"Brother, is that the airplane? It looks so big! How can it fly?"
"I read online that planes aren’t that safe. They say that during takeoff and landing, you get this feeling of being heavy and then weightless, and it’s really uncomfortable..."
"Brother, don’t we need to carry our suitcases? If we just leave them here for check-in, won’t they get lost?"
Li Yuan, carrying the laptop he used for writing, explained with a smile, "The luggage is checked in. It will be loaded onto the plane before us, and it all has tracking tags, so don’t worry. Just keep your valuables with you; don’t put them in your checked luggage. As for feeling heavy or weightless, it’s not that bad. You’ll get used to it after a few flights."
Xia Zhijin gazed out the window at the large airplanes on the tarmac, her thoughts already flying thousands of miles away to her hometown and the family she missed so dearly.
...
The 2 p.m. flight took three hours, arriving at Shancheng Airport.
As soon as they disembarked, a heatwave hit them. Shancheng was known as one of the "Four Furnaces" of the country. During the National Day holiday, it was exceptionally hot, with the outside temperature hovering around 39 degrees Celsius. It was much hotter than in Modu.
Once out of the airport, Li Zixia looked expectantly from her brother to Xia Zhijin and asked, "Brother, what’s the plan? Are we going straight to Zhijin’s house?"
Li Yuan shook his head. He had asked Xia Zhijin before. Her hometown was in a small mountain village in a county administered by Shancheng. The drive from downtown Shancheng would take at least four to five hours. Since it was already past five in the afternoon, it was definitely too late to head straight there.
In 2008, the road network wasn’t as developed as it would later become. This was especially true for Shancheng’s mountain roads, which were notoriously difficult to navigate. Li Yuan didn’t dare drive them himself.
"Zhijin, Zixia, we’ll stay in Shancheng tonight and explore a bit. We’ll head out early tomorrow morning."
Although eager to get home, Xia Zhijin knew it wasn’t safe to travel at night. She smiled at Li Yuan. "Whatever you say, Li Yuan."
Li Zixia asked with anticipation, "Brother, where are we going to hang out? I’ve been reading up on Shancheng’s tourist attractions online these past few days. Chaotianmen, Hongya Cave, Ciqikou, Foreigner Street..."
Li Yuan, exasperated, flicked her on the head. "All you think about is having fun. We’re here on important business, not for a vacation. Right now, we’re going to a rental company to hire a car and find a driver to take us there tomorrow."
Hearing they needed to hire a driver, Li Zixia was confused. "Brother, you know how to drive, don’t you? Why do we need a driver?"
Li Yuan looked embarrassed. Do you really think I’d dare to drive on these roads in Shancheng? His driving skills were only good enough for flat, urban roads. He wouldn’t dare drive in these mountains at this time.
"Li Zixia, do you have to ask ’why’ about everything? Can’t you just be good and listen?"
Xia Zhijin watched the siblings bicker, finding it very amusing. This, she felt, was the feeling of home.
At that thought, her eagerness to go home and see her grandmother and younger brother grew even more intense.
