Chapter 271: Chapter 136: Terrifying Moment, Li Yuan is Scared Stiff_2

"Stop thinking about having fun all day."

Seeing Li Yuan’s decisive refusal, Li Zixia immediately clung to Xia Zhijin’s arm and complained with a pitiful look.

"Sis, look at my brother! He won’t let me go. You have to talk to him."

Xia Zhijin was endearingly flustered, not knowing what to say. Should she plead for Li Zixia, or should she side with Li Yuan?

Li Yuan chuckled lightly. "Li Zixia, give up. Just stay home."

A glint appeared in Li Zixia’s eyes as a plan formed in her mind. She refused to believe that Li Yuan wouldn’t take her to Shancheng once she had this leverage over him.

Hmph, you mean brother. I’ll have you begging me to come along soon.

After dinner, Li Yuan was in his study writing his novel during a rare moment of free time. His fingers flew across the keyboard, clacking away.

Li Zixia tiptoed in furtively.

Clutching his arm, she cooed, "Bro, just let me come with you to Shancheng, please."

Li Yuan’s inspiration was flowing, so he was annoyed by the sudden interruption and replied grumpily, "In your dreams. Stay home."

Undeterred, Li Zixia leaned close to Li Yuan’s ear and whispered a name.

"Bro, who is Bai Weixi?"

Li Yuan froze, looking at his sister with suspicion. He frowned and asked, "How do you know about her?"

Li Zixia gave him an expression that said, ’Now you have to beg me.’

"Promise to take me to Shancheng, and I’ll tell you. Otherwise, I’ll tell Zhijin that you had a dream girl you pursued for three years in high school."

Li Yuan’s brow furrowed, his expression tense. "Tell me now. How do you know about her?"

Li Zixia pouted. "You have to promise me first."

Without a second thought, Li Yuan immediately agreed. "Fine, I promise. Now, hurry up and tell me."

Li Zixia giggled. "Bro, I found them when I was organizing your high school books. There’s a photo of you and Bai Weixi together, and your diary."

"Bro, you’re such a fickle playboy. You chased Bai Weixi for three years and then fell for someone else the moment you got to college."

"Hee hee, but I really do like Zhijin. She’s the perfect sister-in-law I always imagined. You’d better not let her down."

Li Yuan’s brow relaxed as memories flooded his mind. Before the college entrance exams, during the graduation photoshoot, he had indeed taken a picture alone with Bai Weixi and even had it developed.

A diary? What respectable person keeps a diary? Oh, right. Back then, I was a total simp, so I didn’t count as a respectable person.

Li Yuan glanced at his sister, fighting the urge to tell her the truth. The Bai Weixi you mentioned is your sister-in-law now, too. And compared to Xia Zhijin, she is my wife in deed as well as in name.

"Keep them safe for now," he said instead. "Give them back to me after Zhijin leaves."

Li Zixia nodded. She had no real desire to keep his personal belongings. But a question burned in her mind.

"Bro, you chased Bai Weixi for three years. You must have really liked her back then, right? Why did you suddenly give up?"

Li Zixia was thoroughly confused. He had chased a girl for three years, and judging from the diary, the feelings were mutual, not unrequited. The love should have been deep, so why would he suddenly abandon it? This revelation shattered her understanding of love and romance.

She was already a freshman in high school herself. Girls matured early, and some of her classmates had been dating back in middle school, so she wasn’t completely ignorant about such things.

Li Yuan gave his little sister a strange look, shook his head, and said meaningfully, "Zixia, there are some things you’ll only understand when you’re older."

Li Zixia huffed. "Bro, I’m a high schooler now. Don’t treat me like a little kid."

"But you are a kid," Li Yuan retorted, ruffling her hair. "Don’t pretend to be all mature."

Li Zixia let his demonic claw mess up her hair and giggled. "Bro, when you were a freshman in high school, you were already chasing Bai Weixi. You’ve got some nerve scolding me."

Li Yuan’s hand paused, and he gave her a light flick on the head. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

"Enough nonsense. Go keep Zhijin company. Don’t bother me while I’m writing; I’m cranking out hundreds of words a minute."

Li Zixia pursed her lips to hide a smile. "Okay, Bro, I’ll go hang out with her. But you promised, so you can’t go back on your word."

"I know, I know. You’re so much trouble," he replied with an annoyed glance.

Li Yuan hid in his study to write, taking a moment to reply to messages from Bai Weixi, Zhong Tingyue, and Jiang Zhiyu.

Bai Weixi had sent a flood of texts, one almost every half hour.

"Honey, are you not coming home again tonight? I’m a little scared by myself. Yuchen and Xu Zhi are going out for National Day. They’re planning a trip and asked if we want to join them."

The image of Bai Weixi waiting for him all alone in their empty home made Li Yuan’s blood run hot. He was a young man, full of tireless energy, after all. Even though Xia Zhijin was right here, she wasn’t ready yet, and he didn’t want to force her or go against her wishes.

"I have to work late tonight, so I might be back pretty late. Don’t wait up for me; go to bed early."

Li Yuan deliberately avoided replying on their usual messaging app, afraid Bai Weixi would immediately video call him.

A moment later, her reply came.

"Honey, what are you so busy with every day? Don’t you even have time to answer a call or reply to a text? Can’t you spend more time with me? I get really scared when I’m home all by myself. Please come home tonight, okay?"

Li Yuan frowned. He initially didn’t want to reply, but after a moment’s thought, he decided to find something to keep her busy.
