Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 781 - 780: Coming Back for My Wife and Children (5)_1
Reaching the fifth floor, Julia paused, a little out of breath. Climbing five flights in one go was truly tiring.
Adele’s door was shut tight. Julia approached and knocked gently.
"Adele, it’s your sister-in-law."
"The door isn’t locked."
Adele’s weak voice drifted from inside the room.
When Julia pushed the door open, the strong stench of alcohol assaulted her, making her frown instinctively.
On the sofa in the living area, Adele sat alone, drinking sullenly. Several alcohol bottles were on the coffee table; two were already empty. She was quite drunk.
No one had come to bother her. Even if someone had tried, she wouldn’t have let them in, merely saying she needed to rest. No one knew she was hiding in her room, drinking alone.
"Adele," Julia said, quickly moving to her side. She snatched the glass from Adele’s hand and asked softly, "Why are you hiding in your room drinking? What happened? What’s going on between you and Noah Reyes? Did you two fight? Why did Noah Reyes leave? And he took everyone with him." If Noah Reyes left Adele because they quarreled, wouldn’t I be the one to blame?
Julia’s heart ached. She truly hadn’t meant any harm; she just wanted to help her sister-in-law, to give her and Noah Reyes a little nudge, a bit of a push. Her intentions were entirely good. But now... How could she possibly fix this?
Adele claimed to resent Noah Reyes, but she clearly had deeper feelings for him that I wasn’t aware of; otherwise, she wouldn’t be drinking her sorrows away like this.
"Sister-in-law, we didn’t fight," Adele slurred, her breath heavy with alcohol. "I just felt so frustrated, so muddled, that I wanted a drink. They say drinking helps you forget your troubles, right?"
Julia, who was easily intoxicated by alcohol, felt uneasy just from the smell. Despite her discomfort, she sat beside Adele and asked gently, "If there wasn’t a fight, then why did Noah Reyes leave? He pursued you relentlessly. No matter how much we troubled him or harassed him, he never backed down. Today, he accepted my challenge, running 3,000 meters just to spend some time alone with you. How could he bear to leave you like that? What happened? Tell me."
Adele slumped against Julia, a bitter smile on her lips, her mind foggy. "He’s gone... he said he had something... He left in such a hurry... so quickly... He could be in danger... Sister-in-law, he might be in danger, it must be something serious... I’m so upset... I should hate him, but my heart’s a mess right now. I don’t know if I can still hate him."
Julia composed herself. So Noah Reyes had left because of something urgent. What could be so important to make him leave in such a rush? Considering how much he cared for Adele, the sky would have to be falling for him to leave her.
Looking at her drunken sister-in-law, Julia felt a pang of pity and helped Adele to her feet, guiding her into the bedroom.
"Sister-in-law," Adele suddenly paused, pushing Julia lightly. Drunk as she was, Adele would have stumbled without her support.
"Whatever you want to say, just say it. I’m listening."
They say people speak the truth when they’re drunk. Now that Adele is intoxicated, perhaps she’ll reveal her true feelings for Noah Reyes.
"Could you ask Glades and Hansen Ruiz for me? Ask them to send people to help him, please? I’m scared, I’m so worried..." Adele pleaded, her pretty face flushed from the alcohol, making her look surprisingly lovely as she clutched Julia’s hand eagerly. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Julia smiled. This girl must have stopped resenting Noah Reyes a while ago; otherwise, she wouldn’t be so frantic about his safety.
Helping Adele to the bed and settling her down, Julia soothed, "Trust Noah Reyes. He’ll be fine."
"Wait for him... wait for him..."
Adele, barely conscious, clung to the bed, muttering just those two words before sleep finally claimed her.
Julia removed Adele’s shoes and pulled the thin blanket over her. Sitting on the edge of the bed, Julia tenderly brushed a strand of hair from Adele’s face and sighed deeply.
The path of love is smooth for some, while for others, it’s full of twists and turns, forcing them to weather countless storms before they can finally be together. She and Glades were among the lucky ones. Their relationship had progressed smoothly, without any major difficulties. Even if they had faced challenges, with Glades Horne by her side, she knew she would still be happy. He had promised her a lifetime of peace and joy.
"Silly girl," Julia murmured softly, "there’s such a thin line between love and hate. Without love, where would the hate even come from? Oh, Adele, your heart fell for Noah Reyes years ago. Why torture yourself like this now? If you’re in love, just admit it. It’s not like it’ll cost you anything."
Adele was probably struggling with her feelings for Noah Reyes because she felt she’d been wronged for so many years, and she couldn’t just instantly overcome that deep-seated resentment. Honestly, if she could just bring herself to trust Noah Reyes, open her heart, and accept him, he would undoubtedly make up for all her past suffering, many times over.
Julia rose, left the bedroom, and started to clear away Adele’s empty glasses and bottles.
After everything was neat, Jimmy Horne suddenly burst in.
The little fellow was just beginning to understand that his daddy had left. At first, he’d thought his daddy had simply brought his mommy home and then departed. But now he understood: his daddy had left Syrena—left him and his mommy.
"Billy, what’s wrong?"
Jimmy Horne glanced around his mother’s room, the scent of alcohol still lingering. Sadness and confusion were plain on his small face.
"Billy, come on, let’s go out. Your mommy’s asleep," Julia said, approaching him. She affectionately took his hand and led him out of the room, sitting him down in the fifth-floor lounge.
"Auntie Julia, does Daddy not want me anymore?" Jimmy Horne asked, his heart heavy with sadness. He had only just reunited with his daddy yesterday, and today Daddy had left without even saying goodbye. Did Daddy not want him anymore?
Julia hugged him lovingly, gently explaining, "How could that be? Your daddy loves you and your mommy very much. He had something important to do, so he’s only gone for a little while. He’ll be back soon for you and your mommy."
Jimmy Horne looked up from her embrace, asking earnestly, "Is that true?"
Julia nodded.
"Then when will my daddy come back?"
Julia thought for a moment and answered, "It should be very soon. He’ll be missing Billy, and he’ll be missing your mommy too."
Jimmy Horne nodded, though he didn’t fully understand.
Julia had said "very soon," but half a year passed. Many things happened during those six months.
When Adele sobered up the next day, she never mentioned Noah Reyes again, immersing herself completely in her work.
