Private Marriage, Secret Love-Chapter 128: Where on Earth Is He?
Annabelle Spencer quickly glanced at Raina Reddington and saw her staring at Cameron Fairchild, her eyes wide with disbelief.
The smile on the man’s lips grew wider, a wanton evil and arrogance dancing in their depths. Seeing Raina’s expression, Cameron Fairchild felt a profound sense of satisfaction. It was like watching an enemy break down and weep before him.
Annabelle Spencer quickly grabbed Raina Reddington’s arm. "Raina?"
"You... explain yourself."
Cameron Fairchild had said just enough and had no intention of elaborating. "You can savor the thought. But let me give you a little reminder: don’t get your hopes up."
"Explain yourself!"
Cameron Fairchild straightened up, his gaze disdainful and cold, and turned to leave.
Raina Reddington took a step forward and grabbed Cameron Fairchild’s arm. "Make yourself clear. Where is he? What have you done to him?"
Ethan Lancaster, who was walking ahead, heard the commotion and couldn’t help but stop and turn around. Seeing the two of them struggling, he frowned slightly. "What’s going on?"
Cameron Fairchild easily shook Raina Reddington off. Annabelle Spencer rushed forward to support her. "You’re the one who brought it up. What’s the meaning of this, stopping halfway?"
"You’ve got a lot of nerve, don’t you?"
Annabelle Spencer pushed past her fear. "You’re taking this too far! Even a pushover can’t be toyed with like this."
"Tell me, where is he?" Raina Reddington was still fixated on finding out where Miles Hawthorne was.
The more insistent she was, the more Cameron Fairchild enjoyed stringing her along. "Guess for yourself."
Raina Reddington lunged forward, shoving him against the nearby wall with both hands. Cameron Fairchild raised his hands and called out to Ethan Lancaster, who wasn’t far off. "Hey, your wife started this. I didn’t lay a finger on her."
The man strode forward, grabbed Raina Reddington’s wrist, and pulled her away. "Do you have any idea what you’re doing?"
"Where is Miles Hawthorne?" Raina Reddington demanded, her eyes locked on him.
Ethan Lancaster’s handsome eyes narrowed. ’That name should have been ground into the dust long ago. How is it still coming from her mouth?’ He released her hand. "So concerned about him?"
"I’m asking you, where is he?"
Ethan Lancaster’s tone was just as cold. "I don’t know."
"After what he just said, how could you possibly not know?"
Cameron Fairchild feigned innocence. "Raina, what did I say? All I said was that he isn’t so ’clean’ anymore, and you’re this worked up? He’s stained with another’s blood and owes the Lancaster Family a life. There’s nothing wrong with me saying that, is there?"
Raina Reddington shook her head. "No, that’s not what you meant."
"Now this is amusing. You’re telling me I don’t know what I meant? I think your concern is clouding your judgment."
"Cameron Fairchild, you don’t have to put on an act for me. You know perfectly well what you’re capable of!"
Cameron Fairchild smiled and spread his hands. "Fine. And what if I am? So what?"
Raina saw that while he was all smiles on the surface, he was incredibly cunning. She could probably grill him for a day and a night, and he still wouldn’t talk.
His words had been a genuine shock, and Raina’s heart was still pounding in her chest. She had no choice but to walk over to Ethan Lancaster. "Is what he said true?"
"Yes. And?"
"Then where is he?"
A cruel smile curled on Ethan Lancaster’s lips. "Do you think I would tell you?"
"If you want him to pay with his life, wouldn’t it be better to just kill him?"
"No, I don’t want a death on my conscience. Besides, he’s doing quite well where he is now. He has food to eat, clothes to wear, and even money to earn. He doesn’t get beaten. You could almost describe his life as one of luxury."
His words contained nothing explicitly foul, but Raina’s mind was already flooded with images, each one forcing itself upon her.
"You—" Her voice caught in her throat. Annabelle Spencer moved to her side and saw that her face was as pale as paper, her eyes bloodshot, with tears welling up and threatening to spill.
"Us what?" Seeing her state cut Ethan Lancaster like a knife. ’This is a public place, for God’s sake. But her eyes and her heart are filled with nothing but Miles Hawthorne. Where does that leave me?’
"So all this time, the silence wasn’t because you’d shown mercy. It was because you’d found a new way to torture him."
Ethan Lancaster nodded, both careless and approving. "Yes. Clever girl. Now, you tell me, why would I ever let him go?"
Raina Reddington gave a bitter smile. "So it doesn’t matter how I ask. You’re not going to tell me."
"Of course not."
Without hesitation, Raina turned and walked away. As she passed Gwen Sharp, the other woman visibly flinched and stepped aside. Raina didn’t want to spend another second in that place. Annabelle Spencer followed right behind her, and the two quickly exited The Regalia Palace.
Cameron Fairchild clapped Ethan Lancaster on the shoulder. "A spring night is precious. What are you still standing around for?"
He then glanced at Gwen Sharp and couldn’t help but chuckle. "Then again, that face does need to heal. Otherwise, you might scare someone to death in the middle of the night."
When Ethan Lancaster got outside, he saw Raina Reddington striding quickly toward the parking lot, with Annabelle Spencer unable to hold her back. "You don’t even know where he is! How are you going to find him?"
"I’ll just have to tear Stoneworth apart..."
"Raina..." Annabelle Spencer’s voice was strained with anxiety. "I’ll ask Hugo Hayes for help. He knows a lot of people, maybe..."
"Okay," Raina said, turning back to gently push Annabelle’s hand off her arm. "If you hear anything, let me know immediately."
She pulled open the car door to get in, but Annabelle Spencer quickly blocked it with her hand. "You’re just going to go looking like this? Places like that are full of shady characters, Raina! If all else fails, we can call the police."
"It’s no use. There’s no proof he’s missing. At the end of the day, he’s just ’working’ in an unsavory place..." Raina’s voice trembled as she spoke. She knew Annabelle was worried, so she reached up and touched her friend’s face. "Annabelle, the boy I once knew is never coming back, but I can’t let him end up like this. No matter how low he’s sunk, he can’t be... like that."
"I know," Annabelle said, her heart aching. "But this is like looking for a needle in a haystack."
"It’s okay." At this point, Raina was surprisingly calm. "I’ll find him."
She reached out and hugged Annabelle. "I can’t just abandon him. I can’t do it."
Just as Annabelle was about to hug her back, Raina gently pushed her away. She ducked into the driver’s seat and pulled the door shut.
’I’ll use my phone’s navigation to search for all the nearby clubs. I’ll check them one by one. Ethan must have put Miles somewhere right under his nose, so he can go and admire his miserable state whenever he wants.’
She started the car. Ethan Lancaster stood at the entrance of The Regalia Palace and watched as she drove away.
He remained rooted to the spot. Seth Sinclair was waiting for him to get into the car, but seeing his boss’s dark expression, he didn’t dare rush him.
As soon as Raina’s car disappeared from view, Ethan Lancaster strode quickly to his own vehicle and got in. "Follow Raina."
