Primordial Awakening: I Can Evolve My Skills Infinitely-Chapter 79: The Affinities’ Status Panels, Information about Status Effects
Chapter 79: The Affinities’ Status Panels, Information about Status Effects
[Shadow Affinity]
[Description: You are born from shadows and live in them. Leave none of them standing in the light.]
[Hell-Mode Analysis: The initial affinity, still good but cannot compare to the others.]
---
The description was the same as before, but Sam’s eyes narrowed at the final line.
That part hadn’t been there last time.
’I guess affinities do have a ranking,’ he realized. ’Never really thought about it before, but it makes sense.’
He closed the panel and moved on to the next.
He had never checked the affinity panels for [Chaos], [Void], or the one he just got: [Hatred].
Until now, all of his focus had been on the skills they gave him.
But maybe there was more to it than that.
The next panel opened up before him.
---
[Chaos Affinity]
[Description: There is no form. There is no reason. Chaos is what remains when meaning dies, a power with no boundaries. Gets stronger the more unpredictable the user’s actions are.]
[Hell-Mode Analysis: CHAOS! CHAOS!]
---
He grinned.
That sounded exactly like what he expected.
Then came the next one.
---
[Void Affinity]
[Description: To wield the void is to wield nothing... and to make that nothing obey. Its gaze is omnipresent on you. You cannot escape it.]
[Hell-Mode Analysis: Just stare back at it.]
---
Sam chuckled.
These descriptions weren’t life-changing.
They wouldn’t affect how he fought directly, but it was still nice to know what the description of his powers were.
And each panel gave a small glimpse into what kind of energy he was dealing with.
Finally, he opened the last one, the most recent, and the most mysterious.
---
[Hatred Affinity]
[Description: Hatred consumes your being to make you stronger the more hateful you feel. It burns brighter than light, and darker than death.]
[Hell-Mode Analysis: All of those in our way will meet the same fate.]
---
Sam said nothing this time.
He just kept running forward, slashing down any monster foolish enough to approach.
A few beasts lunged out from the trees and ground.
He didn’t even slow down.
With a flick of his sword, tendrils of black tore them apart before they could scream.
"I guess that’s that," he muttered, brushing dust off his coat.
Knowing his affinities better was good.
’Oh yeah, one last thing.’
While still running through the field, he opened the panel for his newest skill: [Crimson Glare].
Without hesitation, he focused.
Primordial Evolution!
The evolution energy surged from his core, flowing like liquid shadow through his veins and into the skill panel.
The dark energy wrapped around the screen as it shifted, glowed, and—
Ding!
[Crimson Glare (Rare) has evolved into Eye of Dread (Epic)]
Sam checked the description immediately.
---
[Eye of Dread]
[Rank: Epic]
[Description: If anyone stares into your eyes while this skill is active, they will be inflicted with the "Terror" status effect for 5 seconds.]
[Hell-Mode Analysis: Fear became Terror.]
---
His eyes widened.
That one change, Fear to Terror, might seem small, but Sam knew better.
’I guess it got upgraded...’
He didn’t remember much about status effects from the game.
They were never clearly explained in the beginning, since they didn’t matter at that point.
But he remembered one thing clearly from the [Fear Dungeon] and the fact no awakener could manage to beat it: they were dangerous. Devastating, even.
But surprisingly, his own subconscious answered before he even had to ask.
[There are 3 status effects. Each one has 3 stages: Normal, Advanced, and Max.]
Sam raised a brow.
"What are the three?"
[The three core status effects are: Fear, Confusion, and Suppression.]
That was all the information he got.
No charts. No full descriptions. But Sam was satisfied.
He made a mental map of what he had just learned.
---
[Fear → Terror → ???]
[Confusion → ??? → ???]
[Suppression → ??? → ???]
---
He didn’t know how useful this knowledge would be yet, but something told him to remember it.
Time passed.
Twenty more minutes of sprinting, cutting down beasts, and crossing through the trees, and he finally reached the first [Outer Ring].
The station stood like a quiet checkpoint in the distance.
He entered the bullet train that would take him straight back to Ashbourne City.
As the doors closed and the train began to move, Sam opened his phone.
Dozens of notifications flooded the screen.
---
[Lily Gremoir]: I feel like Sam is on some sort of genocide route. He’s trying to complete and kill everything.
[Alicia Union]: Like in a game? No way...!
[Chloe Vinelord]: Only a week left until the [Battle Realm]. We really need to be ready. I still need two levels and then my advancement task...
[Lily Gremoir]: I’ve been going through the third layer and (thank god) the monsters are only level 25–30 this time. So I can actually grind.
[Alicia Union]: I’ve been with her. But it’s strange how weird stuff always happens when Sam is around.
[Lily Gremoir]: He’s probably cursed.
[Chloe Vinelord]: Haha, probably. Though he is strong.
---
Sam smiled at their conversation.
He didn’t reply.
Just leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes.
The [Battle Realm] was almost here.
And he had the feeling this would be the first true arc of the [Forsakened] plot.
The quiet ride gave him a brief moment to rest.
But not for long.
As the cityscape began to appear in the distance, a sudden crimson panel materialized in front of him.
[A deep sense of DOOM overtakes your being when thinking about the "Battle Realm."]
Sam’s expression darkened slightly. Then he grinned.
"I’m in [Hell Mode]," he muttered, eyes fixed on the passing scenery. "I should’ve expected that."
He spent the rest of the ride thinking.
Not planning or strategizing, just thinking.
Eventually, the train slowed to a halt and the doors opened.
[We have arrived at "Ashbourne City", please depart.]
He stepped off the platform without a word, ignoring the crowds, the noise, and the people.
Sam couldn’t say that he was tired, since absorbing the titan’s core had not only healed his injuries but also regenerated his stamina.
But even so... something inside him told him to take a break.
He headed straight to his apartment, cutting through the quiet streets.
But the moment he entered the building, something shifted.
The air inside was... off.
[You feel a presence in your room.]
Sam’s eyes narrowed.
Without changing his pace, he reached into his [Spatial Inventory] and drew his [Primordial Sword].
He didn’t stop moving.
Just walked straight toward the source of the disturbance.
When he entered the room, his eyes flicked upward, to the far corner of the ceiling.
There, hidden in shadows, was a figure.
[Void Watcher allows you to see anything.]
They probably thought they were well hidden. But not from Sam.
[Hell-Mode Analysis: You couldn’t stay lowkey forever while doing all these achievements.]
Sam nodded to himself. It made sense.
Beating the [Roaring Titan] and completing the third layer had probably pushed him over some kind of threshold.
People were going to come now.
He didn’t know what their intentions were. But that was fine.
That’s what [Void Watcher] was for.
He stared at the corner where the figure was.
The shadow twitched. Sam didn’t blink.
’Well,’ he thought, ’I can’t let that slide, can I?’
A smile crept across his face.
[In our way =)]
He raised one hand, summoning ten small dark portals above him and merging them together, forming a swirling mass of shadow charged with power.
He didn’t care if the presence was a human.
If they were in his way, he would erase them.
[You are thinking like a true Forsaken.]
Sam said nothing.
He simply aimed his arm toward the corner of the ceiling.
