Chapter 158: DO NOT READ

Everyone was busy securing the warehouse and moving the dead away to keep their space sanitised. the door that was broken by the talle zombie was barricaded with the equpmenst tehy found tehre. But Muchen stayed by Yunfeng’s side without leaving. He watched the once young man breathe with difficulty.

"you are strong.. you can overcome this right." He took his limp hand and placed it on his stomach. "you have to take responsibility for this little one inside..."

Suddenly the hand in his turned cold. The strangled breath seemed to have stopped.

Muchen froze. "hey..." he gently nudged him. Yunfeng did not take in air after that.

"no... no... breathe Yunfeng." He pulled Yunfeng onto his lap. "hey look at me.." he opened his eyes forcefully.

The once shining black eyes had turned dull and lifeless.

Everything seemed to still at that moment.

Muchen clutched Yunfeng tightly, his entire body trembling. His lover lay in his arms, his skin growing colder with each passing second. But Muchen couldn’t—wouldn’t—accept it.

"Yunfeng! Yunfeng, wake up!" His voice cracked, thick with panic and grief. He shook him violently, his hands fisting into Yunfeng’s clothes, refusing to let go. "Wake up, damn it! Just wake up! You can’t—" His voice broke, his breath coming in ragged gasps. "You can’t leave me like this..."

Tears blurred his vision, spilling freely down his face, dampening Yunfeng’s shirt as he clung to him. His whole body ached, his heart twisting into a suffocating knot. It wasn’t real. It couldn’t be real.

"Please..." His voice was barely a whisper now, desperate, broken. "Please, Yunfeng... you promised... You promised you wouldn’t leave me..."

But Yunfeng didn’t answer. His body remained limp in Muchen’s arms, his chest unnervingly still.

No.

Muchen swallowed down the sob that threatened to tear from his throat. His fingers dug into Yunfeng’s back, holding him as if sheer will alone could keep him here.

Then... he felt his lovers fingers twitch ever so slightly.

It was faint. So small it could have been imagined. But Muchen felt it. His breath hitched sharply, his heart hammering against his ribs.

His eyes darted to Yunfeng’s hand, his fingers tightening around it.

"Yunfeng?" His voice was hoarse, barely above a whisper.

Muchen frantically wiped his tears away, blinking through the haze. His fingers trembled as he reached for Yunfeng’s wrist, searching—praying—for a pulse.

But there was nothing.

"He moved..." Muchen’s voice was frantic as he turned to Hana, his gaze wild. "Did you see that? He moved!"

Hana stood frozen, her face ashen. Then, suddenly, her knees gave out, and she collapsed onto the floor, her hands covering her face as soft, broken sobs escaped her lips.

"Why are you crying?!" Muchen shouted, his own voice unsteady. "He’s not gone!"

Qiu Yue approached hesitantly, his expression grave. He knelt beside them, fingers pressing against Yunfeng’s pulse point. His touch was steady, methodical—too detached.

A long silence stretched between them. Then, softly, Qiu Yue whispered, "He’s gone."

Muchen’s breath caught in his throat.

No.

No, no, no.

"He’s not," he said, shaking his head violently. "He moved! I saw it!"

Qiu Yue’s jaw tightened. He hesitated for a brief moment before lowering his voice.

"Muchen," he murmured. "You have to let go."

Muchen ignored him.

"He’s still here," Muchen insisted. "I know he is—"

Qiu Yue inhaled sharply before forcing the words out. "No. He... he might be turning."

Muchen froze.

The words didn’t register at first. "what do you mean turning.... Yunfeng wont turn into those things.. he is alive..."

Qiu Yue continued, his voice heavy with something that sounded almost like regret. "Yunfeng doesn’t have a pulse. He should be dead, but if he moved, that means..." His voice dropped into a whisper. "He’s one of them now."

"he is a zombie. Please... let go of him before he takes a bite of you too."

Hearing this Shao ran up to him. "Muchen, let go. Think og the child. You cant die... le go of him.."

Hana let out a choked sob, her hands shaking violently as she curled in on herself.

Muchen’s grip on Yunfeng’s body tightened protectively. "No."

Shao looked pained, but he didn’t back down. "Muchen, we have to—"

"I said no!" Muchen roared. His whole body trembled as he wrapped himself around Yunfeng, shielding him. "I won’t let you touch him! No you cant take him... he is mine. Mine. He... he won’t leave me"

Qiu Yue clenched his fists, frustration and sorrow flashing in his eyes. "If he comes back as one of them, he—"

"He’s not coming back as one of them," Muchen snarled. His fingers dug into Yunfeng’s clothes. "He’s Yunfeng! He’s my Yunfeng!"

Tears ran freely down his face now, his body shaking with emotion. His forehead pressed against Yunfeng’s cold one, his breath hitching with each ragged inhale.

"You’re wrong," he whispered hoarsely. "He’s not gone." He hugged him close and gently kissed his pale cheeks. Suddenly a cold breath was felt on his cheek.

Muchen stilled holding his breath. He felt it again. That cold breath.

He leaned back to took a good look. "he breathed...."

Yunfeng’s fingers twitched again.

This time strongly.

Muchen’s breath hitched. His hands shook as he cupped Yunfeng’s face, his thumbs brushing against the cooling skin.

"Yunfeng!" His voice was raw, desperate. "Don’t you dare leave me!"

For a long moment, nothing happened.

Then—Yunfeng’s eyes snapped open.

The dim light caught the striking blue-green irises, making them gleam faintly as they focused on him.

Muchen’s breath left him in a choked sob.

His whole body trembled as he stared, disbelieving, his heart slamming against his ribs.

A soft whisper escaped Yunfeng’s lips. "Muchen..."

The warmth slowly crept back into his skin.

Muchen let out a sharp, gasping sob, his forehead pressing against Yunfeng’s. His hands clutched him tighter, unwilling to ever let go. His shoulders shook, his tears falling freely.

"You idiot," he choked out between sobs. "You scared the hell out of me..."

Yunfeng was here. Alive.
