Chapter 414: Chapter 403 Zhan Qipei Accidentally Touches Qiao Jing’s Leg
As the door opened, a figure suddenly lunged in, accurately aiming for Qiao Jing’s embrace.
Anticipating this, Qiao Jing stepped back to avoid Ni Yue bumping into her stomach.
“You’re here?”
Ni Yue, ignoring Zhan Qipei standing to one side, hugged Qiao Jing affectionately and rubbed her face against Qiao Jing’s.
“I’m here~ I’ve missed you so much. Is there anything I can help with?”
She had just finished speaking when she felt an icy gaze fixed upon her.
Knowing full well who it was without looking, she continued to cling to Qiao Jing just to provoke the onlooker.
Zhan Qipei’s expression was so dark it seemed as if he could drip water.
He took a few steps forward, grabbed Ni Yue by the collar as if she were a little chick, and forcefully pulled her off Qiao Jing.
“Can’t you talk while standing?”
His eyebrows locked in a frown, now there were three rivals in the house.
Ni Yue “tsked” and smacked her lips.
“What’s wrong with being affectionate with Qiao Qiao? You jealous?”
Qiao Jing didn’t bother with their bickering. She was in a hurry to attend an academic exchange meeting and thus spoke to Ni Yue:
“Could you look after the two kids for me? One has a fever, so you might need to change his cooling patch. For lunch, order porridge from Zhouhuan Restaurant for them. Just say it was ordered by me. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait in a very long line.”
Upon hearing Qiao Jing’s words, Ni Yue paused, a puzzled look crossing her face as she turned in the direction Qiao Jing was looking.
When she saw the two little ones on the sofa, her eyes widened and her mouth fell open.
Her gaze returned to Qiao Jing, shifting back and forth between her and the little ones several times.
Seeing Ni Yue standing there speechless, Qiao Jing quickly covered her ears with practiced ease.
The next second, Ni Yue’s voice, amplified by several volumes, erupted.
“Qiao Qiao! Did you just have kids while I was away for a competition?!!”
Qiao Jing rolled her eyes in exasperation and, ignoring Ni Yue, headed straight for the door. Before leaving, she couldn’t help but give a few more instructions.
“I’m off to the academic exchange. Please take good care of them for me.”
Zhan Qipei followed Qiao Jing and closed the front door behind them.
In the car.
After fastening her seatbelt, Qiao Jing’s phone, still unmuted, began to sound off like a machine gun.
A vein in her temple throbbed, bringing on a headache; she switched her phone to silent mode and replied to Ni Yue’s messages.
Suddenly, a large hand landed on her thigh, even making an upward motion.
Her black stockings were hoisted slightly by the hand’s motion.
With eyebrows arched like wisps of smoke, she turned towards the owner of the hand.
Zhan Qipei cleared his throat and, pretending nothing happened, withdrew his hand and spoke without changing his expression.
“I was trying to grab a tissue, I must have grabbed the wrong thing.”
Qiao Jing eyed Zhan Qipei skeptically, but his face bore no trace of lying.
With a hint of doubt, she retracted her gaze and handed him the tissue box.
Was it really a mistake?
Zhan Qipei casually pulled out a tissue, still savoring the silky sensation he had just touched.
The woman’s legs were still sheathed in black stockings, clinging tightly to her long legs, that silky touch just now…
He narrowed his dark eyes, a flicker of ambiguous emotion crossing his gaze.
He glanced at the red light ahead and sighed.
Qiao Jing heard the man’s sigh and put away her phone, her gaze fixed on the road ahead.
“What’s the matter?”
A look of regret flashed across Zhan Qipei’s face.
“I really wanted to see you at the exchange meeting, but unfortunately, I can’t accompany you.”
What he actually wanted was to watch Qiao Jing closely, worried that someone might dare to have designs on his wife.
After all, Qiao Jing was so beautiful, and people outside were eyeing her covetously; he had to protect his wife.
Qiao Jing frowned, watching the man with an expression of regret, and hesitated for a while before speaking.
“If you really want to go, I can take you inside.”
Although she had made a rule that outsiders couldn’t enter, if Zhan Qipei really wanted to go, it wouldn’t be impossible for her to take him inside.
This could be considered a special exception she was willing to make for Zhan Qipei.
Zhan Qipei’s eyes brightened, and taking advantage of the wait at the red light, he turned to look at Qiao Jing.
“But wasn’t it stipulated at the exchange meeting that only professionals from within the field could attend?
As far as I know, the meeting must abide by the rules, no matter how high someone’s status is, they cannot break this rule.”
He paused for a moment, then continued.
“Are you really willing to make an exception for me just this once?”
Qiao Jing didn’t answer Zhan Qipei’s question, feeling somewhat embarrassed by the man’s intense gaze, she looked out the window.
She didn’t know why, but she could somehow justify making an exception for him just this once.
Just once.
Seeing that she was ignoring him, Zhan Qipei persisted in his questioning, even though the light had turned green, he continued without heeding it.
“You haven’t answered me yet.”
If Qiao Jing was willing to make an exception for him, it would mean that he held a special place in her heart.
With that, he would be one step closer to success!
Qiao Jing glanced at the rearview mirror and rolled her eyes somewhat speechlessly.
“The light’s green, start driving, there are cars behind us being blocked by you.”
Zhan Qipei remained unmoved.
“Tell me first, then I’ll drive.”
Qiao Jing’s forehead vein throbbed, growing increasingly speechless.
“Why are you so stubborn?”
As it turned out, she still didn’t like it when this dogged man badgered her incessantly.
Whenever Zhan Qipei couldn’t get the answer he wanted, he would cling to you relentlessly.
“How could I have pursued you if I weren’t persistent?”
Qiao Jing rolled her eyes; Zhan Qipei spoke as if he had already won her over.
“Aren’t you still chasing me? I’ve just agreed to try and understand you; it doesn’t mean we’re officially together.”
Having said that, she didn’t continue the topic with Zhan Qipei because she knew that if it went on, they could talk until dark and still not finish.
“Do you really want to go or not? I can take you inside.”
Zhan Qipei got his topic successfully diverted, his face showing difficulty.
“I do want to go, but today there is a celebration event at the amusement park in the city center, I need to go to that,” he said.
He thought about a plan he had in mind, which he could now use as an opportunity to ask Qiao Jing.
“When the amusement park opens, would you be willing to go with me?” he asked.
Qiao Jing gave Zhan Qipei a speechless glance.
“Do you think I can’t see through your trap?”
There were so many ways he could have asked her; why did he have to ask if she would be willing?
And when asking if she was “willing,” he intentionally emphasized it.
Zhan Qipei smoothed his brows that were as wispy as smoke.
“I knew you wouldn’t fall for my verbal trap.”
Qiao Jing looked at Zhan Qipei with a puzzled expression.
“Since you knew, why did you still ask me?”
Zhan Qipei curved his lips, the depth of affection and tenderness in his eyes almost spilling over as he looked at Qiao Jing with a gaze full of sentiment.
“I’m willing.”
