Chapter 84: Threats

(Amaia)

The training session goes horribly. I am unable to concentrate because of Rigel’s presence, and Alnilam is not known for showing mercy during training sessions. He wants a thousand per cent, especially from me.

"Where is your mind today? This is the fifth time I nicked you." His blistering voice doesn’t help my situation.

Can I even trust Alnilam?

Did he plant Rigel, and now he has brought him to prove the point that I can sleep with any man who can convince me that he is my mate? That his initial assumption about me has been correct.

But his eyes, they don’t hold the same revulsion he used to hold for me—now it’s usually concern.

"I apologise, Sir."

"In a battle, you won’t get a do-over, Amaia. Stay vigilant and don’t get distracted," he advises, making me nod.

But every time I turn I find Rigel’s glowing eyes following me like a man possessed. This has to be Alnilam’s test, to see how I will be in such a situation.

I feel so disgusted with myself. With every passing second the belief that man had tricked me cements its hold in my mind.

A breath of relief I let out when the training session was over, and I only lost five points. I had thought that he would take at least 20 with the way I had gone.

"Just look at Ramian trying to lick the ass of the new guy," Alnitak snorts while we put away our training weapons.

"Seems tough. I think he is a vampire. Look at the intense shade of his eyes," Rahria adds. Only Vampires possess red eyes.

"Yeah, and he keeps staring at us as if trying to intimidate us. Bro is trying too hard." Mintaka places his elbow on Alnitak’s thick shoulder.

"We will show him at the next event," Alnitak answers, tugging me away.

"I will catch you guys. Go ahead." We have 20 minutes before our session with Jamina starts and I want to talk to Rigel.

"Catch you later." Alnitak sends me a flying kiss before leaving with others while I approach members of Guild Pegasus who are still putting away their weapons.

"If it isn’t the loser from the other day. Here for the tips, Amaia on how to win at tug-of-war?" Ramian snickers. His arm is around his mate, Filana, who is twirling a lock of her hair on her finger and snickering just like her mate.

"Says the man who got himself stabbed by a human," I don’t hold back and that smug smile drops from his lips.

Rigel stands beside him, a danger flashes in his blood-shaded eyes.

Luthial ignores their jab and waves his fingers at me, "Hey!"

"Hello!" I greet him back with respect.

"Let’s go. I don’t want to spend time with humans or I might lose my edge." Ramian moves away, taking Filana with him and calls out. "Come Ezran, we will show you to the next class."

"I will catch up," he answers smoothly, his gaze not wavering from me. It’s unsettling, the intensity, the secrets, the mysteriousness.

Luthial follows Ramian and Filana and I wait until they are out of earshot.

"Ezran??? Didn’t you say your name was Rigel? And how are you here?" I demand, glaring at him.

His lips slowly lift upwards, bringing forth a small twisted smile. "Hello! Amaia. It’s great to see you too." The answer comes in a sonorous tone.

"I thought you couldn’t leave..."

"Not here. We will speak about that somewhere private." Smooth as velvet and yet authority coats every syllable.

My magic pulses in my blood, trying to reach him. Like a wild, untamable animal it desires to burst out and touch him, just a single flimsy touch. Forgetting every sense that we couldn’t reveal ourselves. My magic just wishes to connect with him.

"Walk with me and just make casual conversation," he quietly asks. His skin is so pale as if he hasn’t seen the sun in centuries.

Is he under a watch?

He begins to stroll away, his eyes lift to watch the sun burning down on us. Maybe he is trying to soak in the warmth.

I follow but my thoughts remain conflicted. Can I trust him? Or is he a puppet of Alnilam, trying to keep a watch on me? He always seems pretty adamant about keeping me away from his brothers.

"How are you doing, Amaia? I missed you," he barely whispers, keeping his head straight but there is deep longing in his words which pinches my heart.

Why do I feel attracted to him, and at the same time, scream danger. There appears to be something off about him, today.

"The least you can do is tell me why you are here?" I ask, heading towards Jamina’s class.

That makes him pause and he slowly yet elegantly turns to face me. A single step he takes, covering every distance between us. His hand reaches out and the tips of his fingers graze against the bulging veins in my neck.

"Your blood calls me like nothing else, Amaia. Singing to me like the lost songs of our old world. I am here for you."

His cold fingers spread like a spider’s web and wrap themselves around my neck, slowly bringing me closer until our bodies graze each other.

He hovers over me, eyes blazing like shining rubies. Nostrils flared and lips thinned out. The shadows crawl on his face, masking him, projecting a dangerous appeal which makes my legs shake.

"For you, I am here for you. So if you want that lost puppy holding you earlier to keep all his limbs intact. Tell him to back off or I will break every bone in his body quicker than he can heal."

He threatens Alnitak and the bond doesn’t even squirm in my chest in possessiveness.

Rigel just threatened my mate, then why is it that I only worry about Alnitak’s safety but feel no hatred towards Rigel?

Instead, my body heats up from his touch, and my eyes refuse to budge from his sinisterly attractive face.

Until a voice comes which makes me jolt back to reality.

"Let her go, if you need that hand of yours."
