Pokemon: This Ash Is Too Versatile-Chapter 712 - 381: Serena vs. Falkner, Ash’s Foresight
The Violet Gym is located on the opposite side of Violet City, in the completely opposite direction from the Petalburg Gym and Violet City’s iconic Sprout Tower.
So, it took the group a little time to reach the Violet Gym, and by the time they got there, the gym was already closed for the day.
Therefore, they had to go to the nearby Pokemon Center in Violet City to rest for the night and planned to challenge the Violet Gym early the next morning.
"I checked online, and the Violet Gym allows one-on-one battles. The Gym Leader Falkner is not the original Gym Leader of Violet Gym; he inherited the position from his father and uses all of his father’s Pokemon, so he might not be as skilled as the original Gym Leader." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Brock looked up relevant information about the Violet Gym on the computer at the Pokemon Center. The data showed that there had been a change in the gym leadership; the previous Gym Leader had retired and gone traveling, and the current Gym Leader is a young man in his twenties named Falkner.
Falkner’s skill as a Trainer is definitely not as good as his father’s, because he himself has never been able to train a Gym Level Pokemon. The strongest Pokemon he has is only Elite Level, which is comparable to Misty when she just started traveling.
Therefore, even though Falkner is stronger than an average Trainer, Serena still has a chance to bridge the gap. It all depends on what level of Pokemon Falkner sends out, and how much Serena has learned under Ash’s guidance.
"This guy seems way out of his father’s league! If he hadn’t inherited his father’s Pokemon, he probably wouldn’t even qualify as a Gym Trainer! Why choose such a person as a challenge opponent anyway? It’s just so uninteresting," Victor said with a hint of disdain after reading the information.
As for the Pokemon level data, he was already well-versed. A Trainer like Falkner was nowhere near his father’s level, and choosing someone like him as a challenging opponent really offered no improvement at all!
"Victor!!" May snapped, making Victor shiver from head to toe. Although May is usually gentle, when she gets angry, she’s scarier than their parents.
It’s often said that an elder sister is like a mother. May usually treats her brother quite well, which has contributed to Victor’s somewhat sheltered nature.
For other matters, May would usually turn a blind eye and guide him slowly, but what Victor said this time touched on insulting the dignity of other Trainers. Therefore, even the usually gentle May became cold.
"No matter how much you idolize Dad, or how high you think you can go in the future, none of these are reasons to insult other Trainers!"
"Let alone the fact that you aren’t even a Trainer yet, so what gives you the right to insult other Gym Trainers? I understand you’re upset about Dad’s defeat, but do you think belittling other Trainers will make you feel better?"
"Moreover, the Violet Gym Trainer Falkner is only in his twenties, just starting in his journey as a Trainer. Having inherited his father’s responsibilities, he will undoubtedly work harder to advance forward. He will eventually become a true Gym Trainer!"
May’s cold words left Victor unable to lift his head; he realized his mistakes, transferring his anger over his father’s defeat to another Gym Trainer, something he should never have done. In the end, his momentary lapse led him to belittle another Trainer.
Fortunately, Falkner wasn’t present; otherwise, Victor would probably be on his knees apologizing.
Ash, who was about to say something to Victor, smiled and swallowed his words after hearing May’s speech.
With such a sister around, even if Victor’s character is somewhat arrogant and difficult, he will surely walk on the right path in the future.
Besides, it’s normal for a ten-year-old to have a bit of a difficult temperament. When Ash was ten, although he wasn’t difficult about Trainers and Pokemon, in other aspects, he might have been even worse than Victor.
You could say his love for Pokemon was what kept his difficult side in check, otherwise, he too would have been a little troublemaker in his youth.
"Alright, now that we know about the Violet Gym Leader, let’s devise a battle strategy next," Ash clapped his hands, pulling everyone’s attention back.
"Devise a strategy? Is... is that necessary? I only have one Pokemon at the moment," Serena pointed at herself with a slightly awkward smile.
By now, she’d been traveling for almost two months. During that time, Ash had captured several Pokemon, yet she hadn’t captured a single one. Having only one Pokemon after two months is almost unheard of for a typical Trainer.
"A one-on-one battle tests tactics even more! To help you get off to a successful start, developing a strategy is essential. Originally, if we battled today, I planned to let you experience defeat, while gathering some intelligence on the opponent."
"But since coincidentally there was no battle today, and we found information about the Violet Gym Leader online, let’s aim for victory and carefully strategize."
