Chapter 487 - 74: The Agreement Between Two Hearts
"Vulpix... what do you think is on Brock's mind?" Suzy murmured, lying on her hotel bed. She gazed at the little fox Pokémon, who tilted its head in curiosity.
During dinner, Brock's words had left Suzy feeling uneasy. It felt as though he had distanced himself, as if he had given up on her entirely.
Suzy was perceptive. It was her keen insight that had helped her achieve her current success.
She could clearly see Brock's feelings for her, just as she could see Zane's lingering affection from their school days.
Zane was handsome, confident, and charming—a perfect match by most people's standards.
Yet, Suzy had always seen him as nothing more than a close friend. She had no intention of deepening their relationship beyond that.
But Brock was different.
Though he wasn't conventionally attractive—his skin was a little dark, his eyes perpetually squinted, and his demeanor often awkward—Brock had qualities that Suzy valued far more.
His kindness, diligence, and strength of character made him stand out. To Suzy, these traits made him truly handsome.
Over the years, their connection had grown through frequent email exchanges. They shared details about their lives that were too personal to discuss in public.
From these conversations, Suzy had come to understand Brock's life in greater depth: his responsibilities as a gym leader, his dedication to raising his younger siblings, and his unwavering commitment to his dreams.
These qualities had carved a special place for Brock in Suzy's heart. She had thought the feeling was mutual, especially given his behavior toward her in the past.
But his words at dinner had shaken her confidence, making her question whether she had misjudged his feelings. Did he see her as nothing more than a close friend?
"Vulpix..." Suzy sighed, looking at the fox Pokémon. "Do you think he likes me?"
Vulpix tilted its head before nodding vigorously, its soft tails brushing against Suzy's arm.
"In that case... I'll confront him tomorrow!" Suzy said resolutely. She wasn't one to shy away from difficult conversations. If Brock truly didn't share her feelings, she'd make peace with it and move on.

The next morning, Ash was his usual energetic self, returning from his morning workout just in time for breakfast.
Brock joined him, acting completely normal, as if nothing from the previous day had affected him.
"It's not far to Ecruteak City," Brock said between bites. "If we hurry, we can make it there by tomorrow afternoon."
Ash nodded. "Right, just in time for the launch of my new product line! Even though we're not in Kanto, promoting it in Ecruteak will work well."

"Exactly," Brock agreed. He folded the map and quickened his pace, clearly eager to leave the town behind.
Misty, noticing his urgency, sighed quietly. She and Ash exchanged knowing looks but decided to let Brock set the pace.
After breakfast, the group packed their bags and left the Pokémon Center. As they reached the edge of the town, Ash noticed something amiss.
"Wait, Brock," Ash called out. "Aren't you going to say goodbye to Suzy?"
"No," Brock said without breaking stride. "It'll just waste time. I've already sent her an email to say goodbye."
"Waste time? Is that all I'm worth to you?"
The sharp voice startled everyone. Turning around, they saw Suzy standing near the Pokémon Center's entrance, Vulpix cradled in her arms.
"Suzy..." Brock stammered, clearly caught off guard.
"Sorry, Ash, Misty," Suzy said with a tense smile. "I need to borrow Brock for a moment. It won't 'waste' too much of your time." She emphasized the word "waste," her displeasure evident.
Ash and Misty quickly excused themselves, retreating into the Pokémon Center to give the two some privacy.
"Follow me," Suzy said firmly, her usual gentle demeanor replaced by determination.
Brock nodded awkwardly and followed her, knowing there was no escaping this conversation.
—
By the time Ash and Misty were walking the outskirts of the City of Bonitaville later, they noticed something different about Brock.
His demeanor had completely shifted—his usual composure replaced by a mix of embarrassment and elation.
"What happened?" Ash asked, curious.
"Heh... nothing much," Brock replied with a sheepish grin.
Ash and Misty exchanged skeptical glances.
"He looks like he's on cloud nine," Misty whispered.
Though Brock was vague, the truth was clear. Suzy had confronted him about his feelings, and their conversation had changed everything.
While Brock admitted his affection for her, they both agreed to take their time. Their shared dreams were too important to put on hold, so they decided to part ways for now.
Suzy would continue her journey to become a top breeder, and Brock—motivated by their discussion—set a new goal for himself: to pass the exam to become a licensed Pokémon doctor.
They'd also made a promise. When they were ready, they would open a top-tier Pokémon grooming and care center together, combining their skills as breeder and doctor. Until then, they'd support each other from afar.
"Hey, Ash," Brock said suddenly, snapping out of his thoughts. "You need to become more famous!"
"Huh?" Ash blinked, confused. "Why?"
Brock grinned. "Because one day, Suzy and I are going to need a big-name trainer to help promote our shop!"
Ash stared at him for a moment before laughing. Though he didn't know the details, it was clear something significant had happened.
Whatever agreement Brock and Suzy had reached, it had left him glowing with hope for the future.
