Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom-Chapter 535 - 534: Advanced-Level Honchkrow
Chapter 535 - 534: Advanced-Level Honchkrow
Cain arrived on the outskirts of Mauville City riding his Tropius.
It wasn't his first visit to Mauville City; he had previously rented a house on the city's outskirts for over a month. Additionally, he had used the city's battle arena to train his Pokémon while earning some money.
This time, Cain was just passing through and had no intention of visiting the battle arena.
Although he was only passing by and did not plan to challenge the arena again, Cain decided to stay in the city for a while—not because of the battle arena itself, but because of his interest in one of the organizations managing it: the Void Group.
So far, the Void Group had not initiated an open investigation into the disappearance of the Black Serpent Gang in Leafy Town, but Cain wasn't sure if Kainan, one of the Void Group's high-ranking members, had already taken notice of the incident.
To be honest, given the current state of Leafy Town, Cain wasn't afraid of Kainan in the slightest.
Regardless of whether Kainan was a quasi-elite or even an elite-level trainer, he wouldn't surpass Cain's own master.
Cain had left his master, Matsuda Takashi, in Leafy Town not just to preside over the Breeders' Guild branch but also to act as a deterrent, being a veteran elite-level trainer.
Upon landing on the outskirts of Mauville City, Cain found a discreet spot to change clothes and alter his appearance, completely modifying his attire and disguise.
Once in the city, Cain began investigating the Void Group.
Every underground group struggles to keep all their internal information completely secret.
Cain only needed to find someone knowledgeable in the city, and with the right amount of money, he could get the information he needed, especially about the Void Group.
As a member of Team Rocket and with his experience in underground organizations across two lives, Cain quickly found the right place. In the corners of the black market, information brokers made a comfortable living.
While some of the information sold was true and some false, discerning the difference depended on the buyer's ability.
Cain purchased some information about the Void Group from a vendor who appeared to have a disability at a corner of the black market. Information brokers should never be underestimated, as their networks are incredibly intricate.
Why did he choose this particular vendor?
Instinct.
It may sound amusing, but it was pure instinct.
With the information in hand, Cain vanished from the black market.
As for the details he obtained, some were false, but others were true. This time, the information seemed reliable: the leader of the Void Group, known simply as "Void," was an elite-level trainer.
In a large city like Mauville, "Void" was ranked among the top five most powerful trainers.
However, it was rumored that this leader, "Void," had been missing for some time. No one knew what he was doing, and in his absence, a group of high-ranking members had taken control of the organization.
This shared leadership had led to increasing internal conflicts.
Most importantly, "Void's" disappearance had left the organization without a superior-level leader.
Many factions in Mauville City and other areas were eagerly watching the Void Group, as they controlled one of the most lucrative battle arenas.
However, no one was entirely certain if "Void" had truly disappeared, so they didn't dare openly invade his territory.
With these internal and external tensions, the Void Group had no time to concern themselves with a small place like Leafy Town.
This was why no one from the Void Group had appeared in Leafy Town so far.
It was likely that Kainan, the member Cain was monitoring, was too preoccupied with managing the internal power struggles.
To stabilize the situation, there were only two options: either "Void" returned, or a new elite-level leader emerged to take control with their power.
Otherwise, the internal chaos would continue to worsen.
This was excellent news for the Heaven Team in its developmental stage.
After obtaining the information he needed, Cain decided to leave again.
Although some of the information could be false, the prolonged absence of "Void" seemed genuine, as Cain could sense a tense and hostile atmosphere in the black market.
Things were unfolding more in his favor than he expected.
Initially, Cain had planned to remain in Mauville City to attack and destabilize the Void Group if they tried to interfere in Leafy Town, aiming to provoke irreparable conflicts between them and other factions in the city.
This would have given the Heaven Team the time it needed to grow stronger.
But now, it seemed unnecessary.

Cain took a taxi and crossed all of Mauville City. By the end of the day, night had already fallen when he left the city again, riding his Tropius.
Although he had lost a day in Mauville City, he had gained the peace of mind to continue his journey.
Mt. Pyre was located east of Mauville City, and to get there, Cain would need to traverse Route 118 and Route 123. That night, he would likely have to camp outdoors.
He released Honchkrow, relying on him to watch over and protect Tropius while they flew.
As night fell, large groups of Zubat and Golbat began to fill the sky, eyeing Cain and his Tropius hungrily. However, intimidated by Tropius and Honchkrow's presence, they didn't dare approach.
But the number of Golbat and Zubat kept increasing.
Frowning, Cain looked at the Golbat surrounding them with irritation. In a cold voice, he said, "I don't want to bother you, but it seems you won't leave me alone. Honchkrow, it's your turn—show me how much you've grown these past days."
"Caaaw!" Honchkrow cried excitedly.
After several days of training in the backyard alongside Weavile, he was eager to let loose.
Seeing the number of Golbat and Zubat, he felt the rush of battle coursing through him.
He launched a Shadow Ball at a particularly bothersome Golbat.
Boom!
Honchkrow had mastered Shadow Ball with impressive speed. With a flap of his wings, he dove straight into the swarm of Golbat.
Tailwind swirled around Honchkrow, and Flying and Dark energy mixed into his wings.
Like a wolf among sheep, the Golbat tried to resist but were no match for Honchkrow. Soon, they began scattering.
However, the sheer number of Zubat and Golbat in the area caused those attempting to flee to collide with those still trying to advance, creating chaos in the sky.
Some clever Zubat tried to attack Cain directly, but Haunter repelled them from the shadows.
As Honchkrow unleashed everything he had accumulated during his training, his level finally rose, reaching Level 40 and officially entering the advanced level.
