Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom-Chapter 410 - 409: The Fury of the Psychics
Chapter 410 - 409: The Fury of the Psychics
"Yadon!" Slowpoke roared furiously at the Sharpedo in the water.
However, the Sharpedo and Carvanha were not frightened; instead, they wore mocking expressions.
Even the leader of the Sharpedo shot a jet of water from the surface, hitting Slowpoke square in the face.
Then, laughter echoed.
The entire group of Sharpedo and Carvanha burst into mocking laughter.
Cain's face darkened. Slowpoke had been provoked, and as its trainer, Cain obviously needed to act.
He pulled out several Pokéballs, summoning Honchkrow, Sneasel, and Skorupi. Even Haunter, who had been lurking in the shadows, was called out by Cain.
As for Mismagius, she wasn't fit for combat at the moment.
"Slowpoke, Water Pulse with Psychic power! Honchkrow, Hidden Power! Sneasel, Icicle Crash! Skorupi, Screech! Haunter, Hidden Power!"
Cain's commands were cold and decisive.
Honchkrow's Hidden Power was Electric-type, while Haunter's was Grass-type, both dealing double damage to the Water/Dark-type Sharpedo.
Slowpoke found itself in a tough spot. Due to its type disadvantage, a deep sense of helplessness overwhelmed it.
As for Sneasel and Skorupi, being non-Water types, their attacks had limited effect.
The Sharpedo and Carvanha, seeing the incoming attacks, quickly dove into the water.
Sneasel and Skorupi's attacks completely missed their mark.
Though Slowpoke managed to strike one of the Sharpedo, the effect was minimal due to its Water typing.
However, the Hidden Power moves from Honchkrow and Haunter had better results, leaving several low-level Carvanha floating on the surface of the water.
Even so, this damage was insignificant compared to the whole group of Sharpedo.
The Carvanha incapacitated by the attacks were the weakest members of the group, both in aptitude and strength.
What's more, if left unchecked, the Carvanha on the surface would soon recover and rejoin the battle.
Cain observed the outcome of his Pokémon's first round of attacks in silence.
He couldn't deny that this group of Sharpedo was a real headache.
With Slowpoke, his strongest Pokémon, at a type disadvantage, he felt somewhat restrained.
"Slowpoke, use your psychic powers to bring those incapacitated Carvanha to the shore." While he couldn't do much about the Carvanha in the water, he wouldn't let them recover.
Meanwhile, the Sharpedo resurfaced, clearly more cautious than before.
Yet the mocking expressions on their faces hadn't faded. They had realized that most of Cain's Pokémon couldn't fight in the water, only on land.
The only Pokémon that seemed to stand a chance against them, Slowpoke, though stronger, didn't evoke any fear.
How strong could it be in the water if it was Cain's only option there?
If Cain didn't enter the water, they had nothing to worry about.
One by one, the Sharpedo and Carvanha emerged, forming spheres of Water energy. It was the move Water Pulse.
The attacks surged toward Slowpoke and Honchkrow like a storm.
"Slowpoke, Psychic Shield! Honchkrow, destroy them with Wing Attack! Sneasel, Ice Punch! Skorupi, use Pin Missile to shoot them down!"
Slowpoke, with a serious expression, activated its psychic power at full force, shielding Cain and the other Pokémon and blocking some of the weaker attacks.
The stronger attacks were destroyed by Honchkrow, which tore through them one by one with its wings.
Any attack that managed to get through was intercepted by Sneasel's Ice Punch or Metal Claw.
Meanwhile, Skorupi fired Pin Missile indiscriminately, trying to destroy as many attacks as possible.
After this exchange, Slowpoke's expression grew even grimmer.
It was beginning to understand the frustration of its species.
But the more helpless it felt, the more its rage grew. An unnamed fury burned within it.
It was furious!
Furious at the weakness of its kind, who dared not fight back but awaited death by a mere pond.
Furious at its own lack of power, unable to mount an effective response to its enemies' provocations and relying on its companions to hold the line.
For the first time, it felt how weak it was.

Slowpoke, who had been diligent and obedient since joining Cain's team, now felt something different.
Although it had initially lost a battle against Honchkrow, it had attributed that to its type disadvantage and had continued working under Cain's training, eventually surpassing many opponents.
However, it had never before felt an urgent need to grow stronger.
It wanted power, yes, but mostly for Cain, not for itself.
Now, for the first time, it desperately desired strength—to avenge its kind, to shed the label of weakness.
It had never wanted this so badly!
Slowpoke's psychic energy began to surge rapidly, and as its anger burned in its eyes, the energy around it grew stronger, like a rising wave.
"What is this...?" Cain stared at Slowpoke as his system displayed an uncontrolled spike in its psychic power.
It was as if Slowpoke had unlocked a mental barrier, unleashing a psychic fury.
Slowly, Slowpoke's body began to rise off the ground, seemingly without conscious control.
The psychic energy surrounding it lifted it into the air, preventing the ground beneath it from breaking.
Small stones nearby began trembling and floated too, carried by the growing energy.
On the nearby water's surface, small whirlpools began forming due to the psychic waves.
"Is this the latent power of Slowpoke Sabrina once mentioned?" Cain watched his Slowpoke, surrounded by a storm of blue energy, its eyes glowing brighter than ever, radiating a magnificent light.
At that moment, Slowpoke's psychic power erupted.
The Slowpoke along the shore, previously indifferent, were stunned by the explosion of energy. Their expressions shifted from surprise to admiration, and finally to reverence.
