Plotting with You: The Forensic Scientist in Ancient Times!-Chapter 430 - 429: Red Dots
Navigating through a maze made of transparent crystal bricks is inherently challenging.
More challenging than that, however, is enduring the scorching heat from above while traversing this maze.
The layout of this formation is both bizarre and intricate; while walking within it, one cannot foresee the crystal bricks blocking the path through reflections. Meanwhile, unexpected angles of light frequently sting the eyes, making it hard to keep them open.
This makes it even harder to discern directions.
Under the dual assault of high temperatures and blinding light, Zhu Yu felt her stamina waning rapidly.
She intermittently felt a blackout, her strength depleting, while the wound on her leg seemed to grow a heartbeat, aching with every step.
The sensation was truly unpleasant. Based on her experience, Zhu Yu realized that a clever mechanism must have pierced her calf with an iron needle. The wound, untreated and hastily bandaged, now showed signs of infection.
However, she had no other option now but to press on gritting her teeth.
After all, when simply surviving seems questionable, who has the luxury to think about treating a wound?
After wandering around for quite some time, the glaring white light gave Zhu Yu a headache. She had to sit by a crystal brick, extract a pill from her belt, and swallow it.
This pill was prepared as they ventured to Little Mountain Building. At the time, the two of them were wary, fearing the people at Little Mountain Building might tamper with their food, so each prepared two Great Nourishing Pills, formulated by Yan Daoxin himself.
Though this pill couldn’t stave off hunger, it could at least provide some strength, preventing the body from becoming too feeble.
Since being thrown into this place, Zhu Yu relied on those two pills as her mental crutch; even when she was famished, she didn’t dare consume even one.
But at this moment, she truly couldn’t hold on any longer.
If she didn’t take one, she might not even make it out of this crystal maze.
The pill, about the size of a hawthorn berry, melted almost instantly in her mouth, turning into a slightly sweet, intensely herbal liquid that she swallowed with a gulp.
Zhu Yu closed her eyes, took a brief moment to recover mentally, gradually feeling a warmth spreading from her stomach to her limbs, and the earlier sense of weakness dissipated.
She hurriedly stood up, reluctant to waste the effects of the Great Nourishing Pill, and moved on, dragging her injured leg to find her way.
As the sun began to set, the light dimmed, and for the first time in days, Zhu Yu truly sensed the transition from day to night.
Though the scorching agony began to ease, Zhu Yu felt no relief at all, because as the light dimmed, it meant those spiders, currently hiding in their holes, wouldn’t need to hide soon...
Reflecting on the cautious journey earlier, Zhu Yu felt utterly overwhelmed, unwilling to endure it again.
Finally, as the last rays of light were about to fade, Zhu Yu’s foot stepped out of the vast crystal-brick-covered area and re-entered a narrow corridor.
Standing at the entrance of the corridor, Zhu Yu looked back and saw a large shadow swiftly moving in, like some enormous creature casting its shadow down.
But Zhu Yu knew it wasn’t some enormous creature, for that shadow was not a single cohesive entity as it moved.
Those spiders were back!
Zhu Yu was caught between a rock and a hard place.
The corridor behind her was unfamiliar, and she knew nothing about whether it hid dangerous traps.
The rapidly approaching spiders ahead were truly terrifying.
This must be what they mean by being caught "between a wolf and a tiger"!
She hurriedly rewrapped the shawl she had removed from her head earlier due to the heat.
No matter what, an extra layer of protection offered more hope for survival.
After all, those spiders hadn’t bitten her previously, suggesting this method was effective.
In her hurry to cover her head and neck with the shawl, the spiders had already reached the entrance of the corridor.
Strangely, the spiders stopped at the corridor entrance, swarming and crawling back and forth at the edge, seemingly blocked by some invisible barrier. Only a few small ones crossed the line, only to be crushed under Zhu Yu’s foot as they reached her.
Not daring to act rashly, Zhu Yu observed for a while, confirming that the spiders indeed wouldn’t cross the line before cautiously turning around and moving forward.
Though relieved that the spiders didn’t cross over, Zhu Yu wasn’t naive enough to consider this a good sign.
It’s known that insects and animals often have an instinctive sense of danger.
The spider swarm, with the exception of a few oblivious ones, dared not cross the boundary, perhaps sensing some dangerous aura they feared more than anything else.
What exactly it was, she didn’t know, but Zhu Yu had no choice but to forge ahead.
Reflexively touching her waist, she pulled out two iron needles, gripping them tightly in preparation for any eventuality.
As she proceeded, fragments of bones began appearing intermittently on both sides of the corridor floor.
The bones weren’t large; many were just fragments, with no blood, flesh, or even a single intact bone to be seen.
The farther she walked, the more bone fragments littered the corridor, and the dimmer the light grew.
After moving forward a bit more, Zhu Yu finally saw a relatively complete piece of bone by her foot.
She quickly bent down to pick it up, lifted the veil before her, and inspected the bone closely.
It was a finger bone, clearly from a human judging by its length and shape.
Realizing this didn’t surprise Zhu Yu.
In this deadly tunnel, if she never saw any bodies or bones, she’d likely be even more frightened.
Upon closer inspection, although intact, the finger bone’s surface was uneven, riddled with dents, as if it had been gnawed on.
What lay ahead waiting for her?
Zhu Yu felt utterly distraught. The relentless dangers without end were nearly consuming her remaining willpower.
Just then, she accidentally stepped on another bone fragment with a "crack," shattering it.
At the same time, in the near pitch darkness ahead, two small red dots suddenly appeared.
