Plotting with You: The Forensic Scientist in Ancient Times!-Chapter 302 - 301: The Outcome Is Settled
Zhu Yu stood next to Lu Qing, looking towards the newcomer. Upon first glance, she froze, thinking she might be dreaming in broad daylight or that her eyes were playing tricks on her, and she almost wanted to rub them.
Just as she began to raise her wrist, Lu Qing, sensing her intent, gently held her wrist to stop her from rubbing her eyes.
Zhu Yu blinked, looked again, and finally confirmed that she was not hallucinating.
The young man her father courteously referred to as "General Yi" was not only someone she had seen before, but someone she knew.
It was just that she didn’t know him as "General Yi" before, only as Prince Yi!
Looking at Lu Zhang with an arm in a sling, Zhu Yu felt quite perplexed.
If it weren’t for Lu Qing being there, she might have doubted that everything in front of her was a trap set by Duke Yan and Lu Zhang for her father!
As Zhu Yu pondered whether or not to hide her face because she wasn’t wearing a disguise, she suddenly realized that she was so relieved earlier that she just noticed Lu Qing was also showing his true face without any disguise.
She glanced at Lu Qing again, who nodded slightly at her, without any intention of covering up.
Thus, Zhu Yu calmed her mind and stood there straight.
Lu Zhang calmly accepted being called "General Yi" by Zhu Cheng, likely because he and Lu Qing had already agreed on this.
His attitude towards Zhu Cheng remained courteous and respectful, showing no arrogance, possibly because his current identity was not as Prince Yi of Jin Country, but as an ordinary general, or perhaps because he knew Zhu Cheng was Lu Qing’s father-in-law.
"Then I won’t decline the Prince’s hospitality and will trouble you for a few days here!" He nodded with a wry smile, using his other hand to lightly touch the arm in the sling on his chest, "With Divine Doctor Yan’s miraculous skills, I am sure my arm will heal soon."
Standing to the side, Yan Daoxin’s face remained stern, showing not a bit of joy from Lu Zhang’s compliment. By the look on his face, if it weren’t for Zhu Cheng’s presence, he might even have rolled his eyes.
"What are you saying, General! If it weren’t for helping my family, you wouldn’t have been injured. Recuperating here is a natural thing!" Zhu Cheng, of course, did not share Yan Daoxin’s attitude. To him, Lu Zhang was the young general who had rescued people from grave danger, a true benefactor. He quickly made arrangements, "My daughter and son-in-law are currently staying in Li Garden. Since the General is acquainted with my son-in-law, I will have someone arrange for you to stay in Li Garden temporarily."
"Thank you, Prince!" With one hand inconveniently clasped, Lu Zhang nodded slightly in acknowledgment of Zhu Cheng, though there was a hint of astonishment in his gaze.
Previously, when he encountered Lu Qing’s group in Li State, he reminded Lu Qing to avoid returning to the Capital and to distance himself from the concubine’s daughter of Prince Shuo. Lu Qing had not refuted and even mentioned he had no plans to return to the Capital anytime soon.
Lu Zhang distinctly remembered he was traveling with the two guards who had been with him for many years, along with Yan Daoxin and his Chief Historian who had recently amazed everyone in front of General Cao and others.
No additional companions were with him.
Now, he finally noticed Zhu Yu standing beside Lu Qing.
Although Zhu Yu was dressed in men’s clothing, her face wasn’t disguised, nor did she purposely darken her complexion or thicken her eyebrows. It was just her usual appearance.
Lu Qing openly placed his hand gently around Zhu Yu’s waist and said to her, "Wife, this is General Yi."
"General Yi and I are like brothers. You do not need to stand on ceremony with him, my dear."
By this point, Lu Zhang had also recognized Zhu Yu as the "Chief Historian Yu" he had met before, barely able to hide his surprise. Unsure how to respond, he promptly recovered upon hearing Lu Qing’s words and quickly nodded towards Zhu Yu, "Greetings, sister-in-law."
"Thank you, General, for your assistance. Since you’ve suffered an injury and the journey is exhausting, I think it would be best to rest first and catch up later when you’re refreshed." Zhu Yu, feeling confused and believing less said was better, decided to make judgments after clarifying everything.
Her suggestion was appropriate; Zhu Cheng suspected nothing, wholeheartedly agreeing, and hurriedly ordered someone to take Lu Zhang for rest.
Only then did Zhu Yu realize that Lu Zhang had actually arrived with Zhu Cheng’s personal soldiers, with none of his own guards accompanying him.
This was truly unusual.
Facing outsiders, Zhu Yu maintained her composure, appearing calm and poised.
After Lu Zhang left, Wen Qiming was also brought forward.
The last time he saw Zhu Cheng was in prison, and afterward, Zhu Cheng had no time to attend to him. Although the Second Miss had recently entrusted him with important responsibilities, giving him much-needed reassurance, the Second Miss was still just the Second Miss. Regardless of her status as Princess Xiaoyao, it was ultimately Zhu Cheng who held the utmost authority in Shuo Country.
"Your Highness, you have returned!" Wen Qiming cautiously approached Zhu Cheng, took a deep breath, knelt down with a thud, bowed his head, and said, "Humbled by selfish desires before, I am deeply ashamed!
Fortunately, Your Highness has returned safely, and I humbly request Your Highness’s forgiveness, allowing me to atone for my past mistakes through service!"
Zhu Cheng sighed, pulling him up from the ground, "What is Chief Historian Zuo saying! I was just momentarily annoyed back then.
In my eyes, you are the most reliable. If even you are swayed by selfishness, I wouldn’t know whom else I could trust!
Stand up quickly. In these days, both you and Zhu Yu have worked hard. Come, follow me to the study, and tell me everything that has happened during this time!"
Wen Qiming promptly agreed, his face flushed with excitement, secretly casting a grateful glance at Zhu Yu, who smiled and nodded at him.
During these days, Wen Qiming had indeed made significant contributions, showing immense loyalty. This was undoubtedly a good thing for Zhu Cheng.
And from his grateful glances at her, Zhu Yu and Lu Qing appeared to have benefited as well.
"You’ve worked hard these past few days!" After instructing Wen Qiming, Zhu Cheng turned to Zhu Yu, his tone full of appreciation, "I will have Wen Qiming explain the details to me first. If there’s anything unclear, I will then ask you.
It’s been many twists and turns during your time apart as a young couple, and you must have much to discuss. Why not both return to Li Garden to rest and recuperate?
Now that the situation is mostly settled, we can take a breather without rushing anything. Go and rest well!"
