Plotting with You: The Forensic Scientist in Ancient Times!-Chapter 292 - 291: The Opportunity Arrives
The most difficult thing in this world is not to do a very complex and tedious task from start to finish, but to meticulously repeat some trivial yet simple and dull actions every day.
Zhu Yu understood this principle well, so she patiently continued to play the role of a servant, and because she was quick and diligent, she was most effective helping in the kitchen, thus getting more opportunities to lend a hand there.
After another three days, one evening after dinner, Zhu Yu was hesitating about sneaking back to Li Garden when suddenly a protector from the Pang Family called her back.
"Hey kid, you, go to the kitchen, there’s work for you to do!" he said gruffly to Zhu Yu. Over the past days, ordering this servant around seemed to have become a habit.
"Alright." Zhu Yu responded quickly, wearing an expression of reluctance mixed with forced enthusiasm.
The protector didn’t have any doubts about her reaction and waved his hand, indicating that Zhu Yu should hurry up and get to work.
Zhu Yu jogged to the back kitchen. She had been coming here frequently these days, so after arriving, she went straight to the Prince Mansion’s chef: "Uncle Li, do you need my help?"
The Prince Mansion’s chef only knew that the second young lady who got married had returned during this period. This matter was a secret that no one in the mansion could reveal, otherwise, it would cost them their heads. However, he didn’t know how Zhu Yu looked after putting on a disguise. All these days, he always thought that the one coming to help was a servant named "Little Yu’er" in the mansion.
"I don’t have any work for you," the chef waved his hand sympathetically and pointed in another direction, saying to Zhu Yu, "Those people took turns washing dishes before, but today no one wants to wash anymore, so they found you unexpectedly!"
Zhu Yu looked in the direction he pointed and saw piles of dirty plates and bowls.
"I’ll clean up over here and come help you afterward!" The chef sighed, "You, kid, you’re still young, but you’re not smart yet!
Haven’t you thought about why they couldn’t catch anyone else to do this work but could catch you? It’s because you’re not smart enough and didn’t avoid their eyes, showing up right in front of them!"
Zhu Yu grinned, waved at the chef, and said, "Uncle Li, it’s alright, I’m young and full of energy! You’ve been busy all day, so don’t help me anymore. Finish up early and get some rest; tomorrow starts early again!"
Though the chef said he would help Zhu Yu clean up, now hearing her say this, he withdrew his offer smoothly, agreed with a smile, finished up his own tasks, and left with a "If you really can’t handle it, call me," then sneaked away.
Zhu Yu looked at the pile of plates and bowls, but she wasn’t worried; in fact, she was delighted.
She had never been so happy about washing dishes in her entire life!
Because she had waited too long for this opportunity.
Zhu Yu quickly cleaned the dirty dishes, washed them with clear water once, and after checking around to make sure no one was there, she took out a porcelain bottle left by Yan Daoxin from her bosom and poured all the powdered substance into a large iron pot on the stove.
The pot contained the clear water she had just fetched. The powder in the porcelain bottle dissolved rapidly in the water, disappearing instantly.
Zhu Yu carefully soaked the already clean dishes back into the pot, repeatedly and meticulously soaking each one, then rinsed them individually in the water, finally placing them aside carefully.
After finishing this, little water was left in the pot. Zhu Yu carefully scooped the remaining water into a small wooden bucket, leaving only a thin layer of wet film in the pot to dry slowly. She then stretched her sore back and left with the bucket of water, dumping it into the latrine when nobody was looking.
Early the next morning, Zhu Yu got up as usual, went out to sweep around, and then helped Chef Li in the kitchen.
Among the protectors of the Pang Family, there was one who could cook. He was responsible for making meals for their group every day. At this moment, he was also using that pot to stew a big pot of vegetable porridge. Seeing Zhu Yu, he said to her, "Was it you who washed the pot and dishes yesterday?"
Zhu Yu felt a bit nervous inside, but she didn’t mind showing it now, quickly nodding her head.
The protector laughed heartily at her expression: "Don’t worry! The pots and dishes were washed well yesterday! You can wash today’s as well!"
"Ah, alright, alright!" Zhu Yu nodded repeatedly, looking relieved.
Chef Li on the side could only shake his head secretly, thinking that this "Little Yu’er" was really dense, a silly kid, bound to work harder than others.
In a while, the protector finished cooking the vegetable porridge, spooning it out one bowl at a time for others to take away.
Zhu Yu silently helped Chef Li while her heart raced up to her throat.
Everyone else’s porridge was served, but somehow, the stack of bowls on the stove was all used up.
The protector swaggered over, gesturing to Chef Li: "Get me another bowl!"
Chef Li naturally didn’t dare defy the request, quickly obtaining a clean bowl and handing it over.
The protector scooped the remaining porridge from the pot and stood by the stove, gulping it down.
Zhu Yu didn’t dare to breathe heavily; her ears were filled with the sound of her heartbeat.
Just as she was running simulations in her mind of different scenarios and how to deal with them, she suddenly heard a thud behind her, startling both her and Chef Li.
Both of them simultaneously turned to look and saw that the protector had collapsed to the ground, unconscious, with a broken bowl beside him and half a bowl of porridge spilled on the ground.
"I’ll go call someone to have a look!" Zhu Yu’s heart skipped a beat, and she turned to run out.
"Hey, don’t go! You fool!" Chef Li was startled, afraid that if Zhu Yu ran out to get someone back, those fierce protectors would blame the incident on the two of them, so he hastily chased after her.
The two of them, one running and the other chasing, slowly slowed down as they ran out of the kitchen.
Zhu Yu’s heart still pounded from running, but her eyes no longer showed the tension and anxiety from before; instead, they sparkled with excitement.
Meanwhile, Chef Li behind her was more shocked than anything else.
Where they passed, the tall and burly protectors of the Pang Family were just like the one in the kitchen—lying all over the place, all unconscious.
"Wha...what is going on?" Chef Li stammered, too frightened to speak clearly.
By now, Zhu Yu had no time to care about him, rushing back to Li Garden at top speed, shouting loudly as soon as she entered the courtyard: "Fu Lu, it’s time to get to work!"
