Pirate Kingship-Chapter 688 - 469: Sacred Relics: The First Bolt-Action Rifle (6100)_2
This Bolt-Action Rifle has a double-row fixed magazine. It can be loaded one bullet at a time through the top ejection port or filled with 5 rounds at once with a stripper clip, making it far more convenient than a Flintlock Gun.
The girl, carrying the rifle, quickly walked out of the workshop and went to the dedicated shooting range in the open space behind.
CLICK!
Pulling the bolt, a round chambered. The sound of the mechanical transmission was music to the ears.
BANG!
She didn't employ any specific targeting methods, nor did she even aim deliberately, simply pulling the trigger at the target a hundred meters away.
The muzzle flashed blue. A steel-core bullet, mass-produced on an assembly line and propelled by the explosive expansion of gunpowder, shot through the rifled barrel. It spun at high speed, puncturing the bullseye and leaving a clean hole straight through.
After firing a shot, Violet gripped the bolt again, lifted and pulled. A shiny yellow cartridge case was instantly ejected.
Then, with another lift and push, the next bullet in the magazine was chambered.
The entire process, from loading to firing, was clearly visible to her. It possessed a unique rhythmic beauty and industrial quality that would be exceptionally pleasing to any Artisan.
It was evident that the "bolt mechanism" was indeed the core and soul of the Bolt-Action Rifle.
The process of pulling the bolt to eject cases and chamber rounds was much faster than the complicated loading procedures of matchlock guns and Flintlock Guns.
To put it in perspective, Flintlock Guns had a rate of fire of only two to three rounds per minute.
But with a Bolt-Action Rifle, as long as one's hands moved quickly, firing forty rounds a minute was easy—almost twenty times the rate of the former!
In comparison, it represented a monumental technological advancement that would soon completely end "Musketeer Corps line tactics" and the "era of volley fire."
When pitted against old-style Musketeer Corps using Flintlock Guns, it would be like modern firearms against Obsidian weapons—bound to create a devastatingly one-sided engagement with almost surreal effects.
Once it became widespread among troops, the combat effectiveness of ordinary soldiers would also rapidly improve, further diminishing the role of Low Sequence Transcendents.
If their original combat power was 1, it could now reach at least 5!
Against the giant insects and beasts of the Southern Continent, these rifles would no longer be as ineffectual as Flintlock Guns, eliminating the need for massive deployments of Transcendents for support.
Even against High Sequence Transcendents on the "Ladder of Glory" path, the threat was not insignificant. It could potentially end, to a certain extent, the myth of Fifth-order Legends single-handedly defeating a thousand foes.
It would increase the success rate of raiding Treasure Fleets by at least another thirty percent.
"My lord, the era has truly changed this time. Equipping every person with a Bolt-Action Rifle—that is the true power of the collective!"
BANG! BANG! BANG!
After this thought, Violet continued to fire. The targets for the next three bullets were placed at increasing distances—two hundred, three hundred, and then five hundred meters—none of which reached the rifle's limits. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Just then, a red bat, flapping its wings, flew rapidly toward her from the direction of the harbor.
The corners of Violet's cherry-colored lips suddenly curved into a wicked smile. She turned the barrel and took a shot at the moving bat.
Facing the high-speed bullet, the bat screeched, "EEK! Someone's trying to murder her own husband!"
Instantly transforming into human form, a crimson, slender sword in his hand flashed with a bloody light. The steel-core bullet was neatly split in half, flying past on either side of his body.
Of course, even if he were hit, it wouldn't matter. Byron, a Fourth Order Mythical Creature, had long been immune to physical attacks.
It was far easier than when Violet played "Death Roulette Bet," repeatedly shooting herself in the head.
On the ground, the Little Witch triumphantly brandished her Bolt-Action Rifle, her tail nearly wagging with pride. Her face was full of expectation, practically screaming, Quick, come and praise me!
SMACK!
Byron landed beside the girl. He lightly smacked her round, pert bottom, which she had proudly presented, as a playful punishment. Then, he gave a thumbs-up and praised, "Miss, this new rifle is fantastic!"
He had intended to sneak over and surprise the Little Witch, but he hadn't expected to be the one receiving such a big surprise instead.
He excitedly took the Witch 1472 from Violet's hands. As he glanced at it, the [Nautical Logbook] immediately displayed a series of specific parameters.
"Materials: Walnut wood and steel; Empty gun weight: 4.09 kilograms (9.0 pounds); Length: 1,250 mm (49.2 inches); Barrel length: 740 mm (29.1 inches); Ammunition: 7.92×57mm copper-cased Whale Oil cartridges; Bolt mechanism: Rotating bolt action; Firing mode: Burst Fire; Muzzle velocity: 878 m/s; Effective range: 500 meters (iron sights) ≥800 meters (scoped); Feeding system: 5-round internal magazine (can be loaded with a stripper clip)."
The advantages of the Bolt-Action Rifle were numerous.
It boasted high accuracy, long range, a rapid fire rate, a simple structure, and easy maintenance. Furthermore, it offered extremely high reliability even in harsh environments, low cost, and a very straightforward manufacturing process.
Once the principle was understood, even small workshops could produce them by hand, which was very favorable for rapidly expanding production.
Compared to future semi-automatic or automatic rifles, it might not have been perfect, but this didn't diminish its status as the progenitor of modern rifles.
Of course, Byron's primary reason for strictly retracing past developmental paths was purely to reap more Sacred Relics!
No one understood better than him how to shear the wool of the collective human subconscious.
DING! DING! DING!
As Violet finished firing five rounds using the bolt-action mode, proving the firearm's advanced nature, a distant bell tolled in the sky.
The "Silver Code" manifested for who knew how many times on this land. A splendid golden column of light thundered down on that Witch 1472, turning it completely gold.
