757: Operation Arid Soil : Part Sixty-Eight
By focusing on the grains, Ir’Houwl could make them change their property, or in other words, she would switch what it was they they drained from their victim, and by having them cycle through a selection of them, these few grains that would only have a small success in absorbing a single thing were eating away at multiple at once, and naturally, the disorienting effect that brought upon the target was simply glorious.
She had since long graduated from only being able to drain water, blood or mana, she had learned how to drain every known energies, it was a shame that she had not yet grasped how to do the same for vapour, but it was fine, although Ny-Hor had not knowledge, and thus, made no use of all other energies, having his inner energies eaten away like this was prone to cause an adverse reaction.
Especially when it came alongside the water and blood within your body being stolen as well, for a person of this realm, this was especially dire, all of this combined, the Watchful Ersta’ra was not putting up much of a fight to escape, having to pour his attention into getting the red grains away from him beforehand.
Ir’Houwl might have just managed to defeat him right there and then, but the living wasn’t fighting alone, and it did not take long for Khasekhemwy to burst through the plethora of red sand she had sent at him, rushing into action at a greater speed than before and taking footing upon a solid piece of vapour.
The so-called burst of power livings would sometimes get out of the blue, a most despicable thing.
Ir’Houwl swung down and severed the bandaged man’s foot right off, throwing him away into a mass of red sand further away before turning her attention to the Prime Ersta’ra, but he came in with too much speed and did not slow down at all even as the minor lord did the classic thing of throwing his injured ally away into more danger.
She had aimed for him to cease his advance and go to Ny-Hor’s side, taking advantage of what she had assumed to be an emotional state, after all, livings pulled strength out of nowhere when their life or that of someone else they were close to was at risk, that was a thing that often happened…
But Ir’Houwl miscalculated, and Khasekhemwy’s empowered heel slammed into her face, the living focusing his tremendous vapour precisely into this one attack, fully committing to it to the point of forgoing defence, and it was worth it, as the undead could not counter attack before being throw away further into the desert.
Only then did the living move to check on Ny-Hor, who soon emerged on his own from the mass of red sand, his defences having held true as he hopped on one feet out of there before focusing to heal up his missing limb, it would cost less to just put the foot back on, but Ir’Houwl had dropped into red sand as well, and it had been drained clean and eroded thoroughly.
“Damn… DIsappearing weapons?
What the hell was that?” he cursed under his breath, had she just let go, he would have recognised what was going to happen and reacted accordingly, but the scimitar just popped out of existence when she was already in movement, he had been tricked good and paid the price, he was wobbly and wouldn’t be capable of fighting in close-quarters for at least a few minutes.
“How good was that hit you landed just now?” he asked the bearded man, who was laser focused on the undead, who rose up to her feet like she was attached to strings, her mask, and probably skull as well, were cracked, but were mending themselves, the process interrupted as radiant vapour leaked out from the damaged area.
“Very good, about as powerful as I could make it, fully empowered, and she took it head-on, and I forced some of my vapour into her as well, it was worth it as it seems like she can regenerate… By Prime Undeviginti, that woman has way too many abilities, I fear that the longer this fight goes on, the worse it will get for us… We better go for the killing blow as soon as possible, we can only hope to end this fight with a single, powerful attack” spoke Khasekhemwy before running into the fight again.
Ny-Hor understood what his fellow meant by ‘single, powerful attack’, and so, he focused to prepare for it.
The Prime Ersta’ra approached Ir’Houwl on his own, twisting his upper body backward, dodging a swing of a scimitar as it was summoned back, then deflection a kick and ducking underneath another swing, moving around with greater ease than before.
‘He’s managing to get a sense of my next action… Must be the vapour he shoved into my face’ the minor lord was trying to expel the foreign energy, but the differences between vapour and what she knew were too great for her to do so easily, so instead, she demonstrated that predicting an undead’s movements wasn’t a great idea.
Her undeath allowed for her to process information rapidly, so she simply changed her mind about how she was going to strike next a few dozens of times in less than a single second, confusing the living enough for him to received a gash right across his face, causing the old man to be be sent backward with a spinning motion.
‘He still managed to focus his defences where I hit, he has the instincts of an animal’ the elder was looking awfully happy about fighting her, the wound healed and he stepped forth again, and the undead stabbed at his chest, he stepped to the side, but not on the ground, manifesting a small platform of solid vapour, which he moved with his foot upon it as another platform manifested beneath his other foot, the elder striking up a pose like he was going to punch, and merely controlled the two platforms to make him dodge as he focused his vapour onto his right fist.
The movement might have been disconcerting to some, but Ir’Houwl was not impressed and manifested red sand to throw her upward, just over the living as she flipped around mid-air, swinging both blades at the back of his head.
Khasekhemwy merely leaned forward to evade, but it didn’t matter as the minor lord kept her momentum and ran toward Ny-Hor instead.
She wasn’t just going to let him recover, her plan wasn’t to take out the Prime Ersta’ra whilst the other was momentarily out of combat.
She wanted the Watchful Ersta’ra dead.
