Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead-Chapter 736 - Operation Arid Soil Part Forty-Seven

736: Operation Arid Soil : Part Forty-Seven
The club sunk into the living’s face, blasting teeth and cheek apart, bringing an end to the giant’s roar of intimidation with a gurgling noise as blood and destroying pieces of his own face ended up stuck in his throat.
Struck hard, but still tough, the giant instinctively threw himself backward, breaking through the top of the door frame accidentally, and slamming into the wall behind with his back, stumbling into a sitting position whilst foolishly trying to put his face back together, only drenching both hands in warm blood.
“Keep your positions” spoke the skeleton, his now bloody stone club at the ready for another strike.
Although it was clear that the giant wasn’t all that resilient, arrows managing to sink into his flesh and single strike of the club dealing great damage, no one could tell if the being was powerful, or could perhaps wield something else, the giant however, was in no state to think about counterattacking, like a prey animal, his only instinct was to try and escape right now, in the hurry and with the speed of the attack, he hadn’t even noticed that there was actually many more undeads outside, right now, attributing both the arrow and attack to the skeleton alone.
With crimson rolling down his red beard, the giant charged right through one of the walls, blasting the sandstone apart, believing that the attacker would have no way to catch up by rushing off into another direction than that of the door, but before the risen up dust and sand could settle, the giant felt forward, pain radiating from both heels, following by countless of slashes and stabs that utterly ruined his legs to the point that barely even a single muscle could be moved, the undeads lashing out with frightening cohesion, like they could read one another’s mind.
Flailing around like a fish out of the water, the living did his best to try and keep them away, but he was completely surrounded, the pain and blood loss making him especially easy to blindside, swinging at one that seemed to approach, only for the corpse to back away for another to swoop in from the other side, bringing a warpick down on the giant’s wrist, pinning it to the ground whilst dislocated the bones from one another.
With a growl, he attempted to strike at the aggressor with his other hand, but his current position on the ground and with three out four limbs out of service, that effort looked comical at best, and the club-wielding skeleton appeared again, breaking the remaining arm with a swing.
Saying something in death tongue, the words slithering through the air until they reached one of the undeads that had stayed with the livings.
“Everyone, get inside” spoke the corpse dressed in all white, running ahead of them.
Cheops and Meritites had no idea what the hurry was, but they followed after the corpse and stumbled upon a most unexpected scene, a bloody one that made the butcher grip the Ersta’la’s shoulder tightly.
“Don’t get too excited Meri- You’ll get to turn something into goop eventually…” he caressed the back of her hand, making the murderous grip loosen up.
“…Though, I thought the giants had all been exterminated?
And even if we ignore that, what is one doing here anyways?” Cheops wondered aloud, the giants were incredibly aggressive and rather nasty monsters, they could not be communicated with like the orcs, and were much more erratic as well as unpredictably violent unlike the molochites.
They could live near the latter two, but that was impossible with the giants, so they had been systematically hunted down until they did not appear again, which had led to the belief that they were extinct.
That clearly was not the case however, as one was alive right before his eyes, in a most terrible shape, but still.
They had all that distinctive red hair, a gaunt figure that yet rippled with vitality and strength as well as rather long head, they were humanoids and might even be mistaken for people in some cases as they bore the same skin shade and burns due to sun exposure, so if a giant happened to be a short one, it could lead to a mistake in judgement, although, that was typically not an error that lasted for long, as once you looked a giant in the eyes, you knew exactly that you weren’t dealing with a person.
“I was told that the massacre was glorious, I wish I had been there to bathe in some giant guts as well… Though, I don’t see how that big guy could have anything to do with the town getting cleaned up, I am fairly certain their intellect is less than optimal” Meritites shook her head to switch from her killing brain to regular one, questioning something all of the butchers that had been present for the town’s slaughter were wondering about.
What sort of maniac would show up and hide their hard work like this?
“Indeed, all that I heard about the giants is that they make up for their lack of intelligence and wisdom by being overtly aggressive, killing or chasing off anything they don’t recognise without question…”
As the two discussed, Cheops casually wrapped one arm around Meritites’s waist at the same time, the undead in white stepped up to the giant, and doused creature in some sort of greenish liquid, which caused the many wounds to emit smoke and no longer leak any blood, meanwhile, the broken and maimed limbs were tightly tied together, and the giant’s head was covered with a sack.
“Sir Undead, are you planning on bringing the giant back alive?”
“Indeed, a new species should always be brought whilst still cursed for more in-depth dissection… I heard you say that this was called a giant?
That is a rather small giant, but that doesn’t matter- I am more interested in the claims that they are extinct, how long have they not been spotted for?” the skeleton spoke, finding the fact that a three meter creature would be called a giant rather strange, but it was true that ‘giant’ was a rather commonly used term that described both big boys like this one, and literally mountain-sized creatures.
“They were supposed to have been all gone well before I was ever born, actually, the only reason I can tell that this is one is because the story of the giant hunt is a rather common one to read to children… But I believe that if giants were discovered, the news would spread out quickly” explained the Ersta’la.
“I see… Very well, keep up the mirage for a little while whilst we plant the oasis, then we shall rest before heading back with our new prisoner”
The skeleton put one hand on the living’s shoulder, his bony fingers emanating a sense of cold dread despite being very warm due to the heat.
“…Rest, or not, I suppose… Heh” the corpse cackled as he walked away, Cheops not certain if the joke was that the undeads did not rest, or that Cheops would not get to rest due to a certain someone.
Either way, that bony fellow had a real spooky laugh.
