Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead-Chapter 696 - Trembling Soul
696: Trembling Soul
696: Trembling Soul
“Freaking… Hell…” Audit felt like every single one of his pores were sweating blood and filthy pus, whatever was happening inside these memories was putting a serious strain on him, maintaining his zone and the effects of his ability was a challenge like none he had ever encountered.
But he saw it as a good sign, Loimos truly seemed to have been brought back before the one who truly had the greatest chances of overcoming him, Thanatok Ynigós was one and only wielder of devouring life, which was the only thing that could reasonably stand up to festering death, they were the opposite of one another, the best life force had to offer and the best death force had to offer.
He didn’t know exactly which alternative past Loimos had ended up in, but clearly, he wasn’t having an easy time as the pressure placed on the prophet did not relent and only kept on increasing, one could not possibly imagine what sort of chaos was currently taking place as they clashed once more.
Quideos spat a mouthful of blood upon the ground, noticing that it wasn’t quite crimson, bearing traces of stagnation…
‘Shit’
The effects of this cataclysmic battle were felt across wide spans, all combatants within the city, be they living or restless, marked a distinct pause as soon as it washed over them.
“Death is with us!”
The three generals of Irlanx Xacobus and the three living elites facing off against them, were the first to snap out of that daze as a restless somewhere in the distance yelled out, blast of foul soul energy and soul fire tore through the already ruined city, whilst Xaros was struggling against Aliata.
The redheaded living was a real pain in his coccyx, the reason she had gone straight to her second step and skipped the first was simple, unlike most whose two steps had distinct abilities and would thus require them to switch between the two to fight at their best, like how Bilistam had been using a mix of Lingchi and Guillotine. freewebnøvel.coɱ
Aliata was different as her second step did not lose the abilities of the first at all and in fact further enhanced it, there had to be tradeoff somewhere, but Xaros was not yet able to perceive what it might be, his inner soul energy was still rattled and trembling from that earlier cry.
The energy flow felt slow and sluggish, not all capable of properly being used for the activation of his special ability, leaving him to fend off against the living at the peak of her power with just his own body that was missing two arms out of six.
Both that were lost were on his right side, only the one at the very top remained, meaning that one of his sides was especially vulnerable, and multiple gashes already covered the surface of the restless’s bones, evading the swift living was no simple task, she darted around and was as easy to lose track of as a fly.
That was how Xaros realised that the second step also encompassed the first, as the cry that had ruined all of his apparitions had to be the ability of the second step considering its sheer power.
The first basically had the same effect, but only took hold when she landed a strike, which was also probably why he had yet to recover his regular energy circulation, it was a vicious circle, the only saving grace was that Aliata had expanded an ungodly amount of her own soul energy to use the second step, many times more than was to be expected.
But as an elite, her reserves were deep, she had enough to activate two or three more times before having to worry, which didn’t matter since she didn’t have to, it would stay activated until Xaros was an inanimate pile of bones.
‘Surely, there is a weakness there… Her soul weapon couldn’t just have these advantages for no reason, right?’ although the restless had not been killing livings for a long while after joining his king’s side, he still remembered many things from the time during which he was just another wandering restless that had to contend with invaders.
They were frugal in how much soul energy they expanded because going too low would severely impact their physical body, soul energy was a major component of their being after all, so using too much had adverse effects, and totally expanding it would lead to total loss of consciousness, not to mention that if they went too low, they wouldn’t even be able of keeping their soul weapon summoned at all, which would be a massive disadvantage as it was the source of most of their strength and power.
The bronze dagger just barely missed his main skull, Xaros forcing his way through a building that had not yet been reduced to rubbles, using the tighter space inside and corners to put some distance in between him and Aliata, who like a mad beast didn’t seem to believe that doors were of any use and barreled right through the walls, blocking the restless’s path as she appeared alongside an explosion of splinters.
“Where are you going big boy?
Don’t want to play with me?!” somehow, she seemed to be growing more unhinged by the second.
Grabbing a random piece of furniture, Xaros threw it straight at the living and took off into another room, rushing right through a wall leading to the outside, finding himself in some sort of abandoned communal garden with a well in the middle of the overgrown grass.
Aliata was back again in a mere few seconds, but it was then that Xaros felt his flow of soul energy take up pace and return to normal, like a blockage that had been throwing everything into disarray was finally dispelled, without hesitation, he called forth the bear-wolves and sent them to spread out over the area.
Knowing very well that a single cut from the bronze dagger would be enough to dispel them, truly, Aliata was the worst person Xaros could have ended up against, her abilities were a perfect counter for his.
The soul creations required fine energy control to function, so the slightest disruption would make them collapse, Xator’s and Xaltar’s attacks would at least be able to withstand the disruption…
But it was fine, he didn’t need to actually defeat his opponent, but merely to keep her occupied until the lord won his own fight, the instant Irlanx Xacobus achieved victory, the battle as a whole would be decided, no one but Alistel could hope to do anything against him after all.
Xaros’s attention fell on the giant bone-lotus in the distance, and a very simple idea popped in his mind.
