Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead-Chapter 356 Rocky Island
"They are pretty weak for such beast-like beastfolks" pulling her green blade from the now separated skull of one of the amphibians, Saliana looked back at Loimos, who was standing a distance away, suppressing his presence so that the denizens did not turn and start running.
"They are pretty tasty though…" taking a juicy bite out of a disembodied thigh, Irbyw tried sharing but no one was interested.
Meanwhile, Imyre dragged the last survivor, the poor thing grasping at everything that was within reach, its slippery exterior was no more, having been battered by a hail of sand, feeling completely dried, the more beast than folk was taken before Loimos, the skeleton signalling for One to demonstrate something.
The vampire dropped whatever she was doing, and proudly stepped up to the prisoner, her eyes glimmering a faint pink for an instant, calming the creature down instantaneously.
"Nope, it's more intelligent than your typical animal, but nowhere close enough to mingle with the sapient species" One, a sun-walking vampire was in a fairly bad position all things considered, her gravelord had been a traitor and was now gone for good, and the holy ground of the undead was deprived of the light she thrived upon, there were not many sun-walking vampires left at all, there had never been a great quantity of them, and even then, the majority had been culled as they ended being traitors like their progenitor.
Unless King Nitok could prove himself very convincing, one of those few would have to reach the status of gravelord themselves, and become, the new sun-walker, none of them was even close to at least being a minor lord though.

Still, once again, Loimos rose in her view, if it was somehow possible, as the Lithitree produced fruits that all undeads could use to grow stronger, coupled with a hefty dose of training, One wanted to feel like she actually served a purpose next to the pure undead.
Her vampiric charm ended up being rather useful, one just needed to ignore that Loimos could have accomplished everything her and Alizée had just done with his hands behind his back, it was all demonstration for the soldiers, they couldn't get used to the fact that their leader could solve all their problems, that would be problematic when they had to venture on their own.
A few of the local inhabitants were turned into undeads, new ones were unloaded from the ship, and a miasma generator was put in place, it was time to move to the next island, although it looked like they were pretty fast with each one, the sheer number of small pieces of lands was astounding, and even then, Loimos was told to only take care of those a certain distance from the mainland, and it went without saying that some of those so-called island were significantly larger than this.
In this world, things could reach absurd sizes, and the very concept of time and space could be challenged on a whim.
The next island required a few days of sailing to reach, unlike the previous two, which had been tropical, bustling with vegetation and surrounded by beaches of gentle sand, this one however, was not only much larger, it was covered in nothing but rocky terrain, a high hill raising into the sky, piercing it with its jagged peak.
Unlike the frozen mountains, this one didn't even reach the first layer of clouds, not a by a long shot, but all things considered, it was still a rather large natural formation, Loimos had been using one of his rot creations to scout ahead of time, so he already knew the challenges this place could pose in great details, the stacked up rocks were unstable to walk upon, so the creatures that populated the ground were flexible, crawled in between and beneath the boulders, most were simply animals, preyed on upon by birds with long legs, their textures rocky, which would simply land somewhere, and wait for hours for something to be unfortunate enough to pass within reach.
The only monster around being a boulder that was actually a big crab, which in turns, grabbed birds that didn't notice it, which would be rather hard for everyone, except for the undead who could see its life force, rocks typically did not have such a thing.
This island was a good place to see how his soldiers would handle treacherous terrain, not to mention the surprise hidden underground, slamming the ship into the rocks, the only damage suffered being done to the island, it was not that the undead conducting the ship did not know how to stop it normally, it was just that it was not necessary to bother, dropping down, onto the unstable ground, the two knights were in charge of the invasion this time, discussing amongst one another to find the best way of advancing efficiently.
For the undeads, keeping this equilibrium was not too difficult, at least on their own, but when so many moved around, the steps of another could disturb a rock and end up sending another wavering, if that occurred all the time, someone would inevitably fall to the ground, what was a problem was that their advance would be painfully slow, Loimos's ranks were meant to have many castes and divisions, but here, only the rank and file and Loimosian knights were present, both of those were supposed to be the core forces.
Loimos stayed back and let them deliberate, eventually, they opted for a tight formation, marching in unison, if they were going to be slow anyways, they opted to be especially slow, but prevent any risks of the formation breaking of its own.
"There is something a bit odd about this island, isn't there? The wildlife all specialises in camouflage, and the regular marine birds are completely absent, despite the fact that there is another bushy island just further over there" One pointed out, it didn't seem like the knights and soldiers suspected anything though.
"Indeed, they seem to be putting too much faith in their undead senses, wholly unsuspecting of that winged drake" Loimos confirmed, his entire body scrunching up into a much smaller form, taking the shape of a carrion bird, flying up in the air, staying right above his followers.
"Winged drake? As in a dragon?" Imyre asked, her voice much drier than it used to be.
"He would have just said dragon, he does not mix up terms" Saliana tapped her blade upon her shoulder.

"Ouuh! He must be planning on taking it in his forces" the spider woman remarked, her mouth still full with frog-people flesh.
After all, Loimos pretty much only took in naturally spawned undeads, he did not impede on the already formed forces of the main legion or the personal forces of the lords, even though he definitely could ask for some, everyone respected him the same as they did the gravelords, and he was still the general in charge of the minor lords.
But Loimos was seeking to really build an army from the ground up, as such, he scrutinised the movements of the foundation of such an army, they were not yet knowledgeable to the presence of a dreadful living on this island, but they were still very careful, the knights wanted to make the best of impression, so even if they completely believed that there were no dangers, they acted as if.
Not as good as if they had been preparing to face a winged drake, but that was still sufficient enough.
They did not bother with the crawlers, birds or crabs, all of these were fearful of them and thus not requiring attention, circling the wide span of the place for a long while, a short while for the corpses.
They eventually found a hole in the ground.
