Peerless Martial Expert in the City-Chapter 250 - 253: Strange Person
(Thanks to Kuei’s generous tip, thank you!)
——————————————
"Alright."
The man nodded and, without any further ado, turned and slowly walked toward the door.
Xiao Yi watched the man leave, a faint warmth showing in his eyes.
"Take care! I hope to see you again!"
It was not until the man was almost out of the villa’s door that he slowly uttered these words.
"You too!"
The man slowly turned around, looked into Xiao Yi’s sincere eyes, and squeezed a slight smile onto his face. He spoke three words, then without turning back, stepped forward and left.
At the moment the man stepped out of the villa, Shen Xiaoxiao, dressed in a well-fitting women’s suit that accentuated her exquisite figure and exuded the ripe allure of a woman, just happened to arrive at the villa’s door. She looked curiously at the man walking away from the villa, knowing that since Xiao Yi had moved in, aside from Liu Yuan and the cleaning lady who might appear in the morning, only Chen Jianguo occasionally came by at night. No one else had entered or exited the villa.
But this man was clearly none of those three persons.
Moreover, guided by a woman’s intuition, she felt that this plain man was somewhat strange, yet she couldn’t quite pinpoint what exactly was odd about him.
As she looked curiously, she suddenly saw the man smile at her. Yes, it was a smile—though his face showed no expression, she felt a smile emanating from his eyes, a benign smile.
This strange feeling made her pause for a moment in a daze. When she regained her senses and looked up to get a clearer view of the man, she found that the area before her was now empty.
Had he left so quickly?
Stunned for a brief moment, she hesitated, then, with one foot already inside the villa, Shen Xiaoxiao stepped out again, tapping her high heels briskly as she walked quickly back in the direction the man had gone. But after a short walk to the corner of the villa, she saw no trace of him.
What a strange person.
Shen Xiaoxiao shook her head and turned back towards Xiao Yi’s villa.
"Sister Shen?"
Xiao Yi, seeing Shen Xiaoxiao at his doorstep, couldn’t help but show a surprised expression. He had just heard the tapping of high heels and wondered who it could be, but never expected it to be Shen Xiaoxiao.
Since their last parting, citing his safety, Shen Xiaoxiao had not come to see him nor allowed him to visit her. She hadn’t even contacted him by phone, although Xiao Yi felt it was unnecessary. However, Shen Xiaoxiao insisted on it, and he hadn’t argued, especially since he had been quite busy lately and was trying to make breakthroughs—having some quiet time was not so bad.
Seeing Shen Xiaoxiao show up at his door was naturally surprising. Could it be that Liu had given up continuing to seek him out?
"What, aren’t you happy to see me?"
A smile, neither fully genuine nor completely fake, spread across Shen Xiaoxiao’s face.
"Of course not, how could that be possible? Sister Shen is usually a guest we can hardly invite, so having Sister Shen visit is truly an honor, hehe."
Xiao Yi quickly hid the surprised expression on his face and chuckled, stepping aside to make way and gesturing for her to enter.
"Oh, it’s been a while, but you’ve certainly gotten better at sweet-talking. Seems like you’ve been practicing a lot."
As Shen Xiaoxiao walked into the villa, she smiled broadly but stared at Xiao Yi with a disapproving look.
"It’s all thanks to Sister Shen’s good teaching, hehe."
Xiao Yi, seeing the look in Shen Xiaoxiao’s eyes, quickly laughed.
"I never taught you to be slick and smooth-talking with such kungfu skills."
Hearing Xiao Yi’s response, Shen Xiaoxiao finally showed a slightly satisfied smile, but she scolded him with a glance and scanned the living room. Noticing the tea still steaming gently on the table, her eyes brightened as she casually said, "Oh, the tea isn’t cold yet. Did someone visit earlier?"
"Yes, an old friend."
Xiao Yi nodded, remembering the man from earlier. A trace of sadness flickered in his eyes as he realized that after today, it was uncertain whether they would ever meet again.
People in their world lived on the edge every day, existing in the darkest corners of this world, where life was pathetically fragile.
Even though Liu San was quite powerful and cautious, the path they walked was inevitably a one-way road. No matter how formidable he was, he wasn’t invincible. Moreover, being an assassin wasn’t solely about strength. Even as a master of the Condensation period, if he hadn’t sensed the murderous intent in time yesterday, he might have been killed outright by the novice killer who hadn’t even reached the Bone Tempering Period.
Their first and last meeting had also been on the brink of life and death.
"That person is your friend? He looked quite a bit older than you."
Shen Xiaoxiao, noticing the sudden change in Xiao Yi’s gaze, couldn’t help but feel a thrill as she saw a touch of melancholy in his eyes, almost sensing a deep, profound vicissitude that made her heart flutter.
But Xiao Yi seemed to be just a young man in his twenties; how could he seem to have such deep emotional experiences?
However, her attention was quickly drawn by what Xiao Yi said next, looking at him curiously. She initially thought that person might be an elder or relative of Xiao Yi’s, but she was surprised when Xiao Yi said it was his friend, especially since the man appeared to be at least in his thirties.
That meant he was at least ten years older than Xiao Yi.
"Yes, he’s fifteen years older than me. I guess we’re ageless friends, haha."
Xiao Yi, not noticing Shen Xiaoxiao’s expression, smiled and spoke.
"Oh, that much older? How did you meet him?"
Shen Xiaoxiao asked curiously.
"That’s a long story; I’ll tell Sister Shen another time. By the way, Sister Shen, didn’t you say you wouldn’t contact me again? What brings you to see me all of a sudden? Has Mr. Liu stopped looking for me?"
Xiao Yi’s expression shifted slightly, then casually changed the subject.
