Peerless Martial Expert in the City-Chapter 235 - 238: Enemies on a Narrow Road
Xiao Yi had not expected to run into Li Ziming at the entrance of the library. As he saw Li Ziming approaching, a bitter smile involuntarily surfaced at the corner of his mouth. He helplessly shook his head, once again experiencing the adage that foes are often encountered on narrow roads.
However, he naturally didn’t take such a minor character seriously, and it was out of the question for him to avoid Li Ziming. After a slight shake of his head, he continued to walk toward his destination. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
Li Ziming too had not expected to bump into Xiao Yi at the library entrance. Generally speaking, he seldom visited the library. This kind of place, quiet and suitable for reading, wasn’t really his scene. He had never had much of a talent for academics, and from childhood, he had focused more on his knack for playing clever tricks, devising schemes, and practicing martial arts.
But he had no choice—today, that person had asked to meet him here, so he had to come.
Little did he expect that this rare visit would be like winning the lottery.
As Xiao Yi approached, Li Ziming didn’t possess the same courage to face him head-on. His steps involuntarily faltered, his heart pounded violently. With each step that Xiao Yi took, Li Ziming’s heart quivered to the extreme, his heart seemingly suspended in mid-air.
His fear of Xiao Yi had already reached a certain level, especially after learning that the man he regarded as almost godlike had been seriously injured by Xiao Yi. Since then, he couldn’t muster the slightest inclination to act tough in front of Xiao Yi.
If even that person was injured so badly, what would happen if Xiao Yi decided to lay a few blows on him? Although Li Ziming wasn’t particularly intelligent, he wasn’t foolhardy enough to seek his own death!
Nevertheless, letting go of his hatred for Xiao Yi wasn’t something he could do. For one, Xiao Yi’s back-to-back slaps and the pain that had nearly killed him were deeply etched memories that could not simply be forgotten.
However, he also knew that, for now, even if he couldn’t let it go, he had to keep his feelings in check. He must wait until either his family decided to take a firm stand against Xiao Yi, or the person supporting him found a way to deal with Xiao Yi. Only then could he breathe a sigh of relief.
But at the moment, he saw no hope on either front.
As Xiao Yi was about to walk past him, Li Ziming felt like his heart was lodged in his throat. His face turned pale, his fists clenched tightly, and his arms, visible through his sleeves, shook uncontrollably. He was genuinely afraid Xiao Yi would remember their previous conflicts and strike him first.
Luckily for him, Xiao Yi seemed to either not see him or simply disdain him. As he walked by, he did not acknowledge Li Ziming at all, and showed no intention of taking action against him.
Watching Xiao Yi pass by at a measured pace, Li Ziming felt as if his heart had finally sunk back into place. He took a long breath and only then did he realize that his back was soaked in cold sweat, brought on without his awareness.
"Li Ziming, you better keep your act straight and don’t provoke me. If you continue to irritate me, you and the Li family might be able to threaten some people, but as far as I’m concerned, your Li family means nothing to me!"
However, just as Li Ziming was beginning to feel completely relieved and his composure was returning, Xiao Yi, who had taken a few steps away, suddenly stopped, glanced faintly at Li Ziming, who was just catching his breath, and said indifferently.
Xiao Yi had intended to warn Li Ziming since the time he was targeted by a Bone Tempering Period expert, but with one thing and another keeping him busy, he had been constantly distracted and had inadvertently forgotten. Now that they had encountered each other, the memory came back to him, and he took the opportunity to issue a reminder.
"Shua!"
At Xiao Yi’s words, Li Ziming’s face once again turned pale, and sweat reappeared on his forehead. His heart clenched tightly, and his head bowed lower.
Xiao Yi, observing Li Ziming’s subservient attitude reminiscent of a docile grandson, the corners of his eyes revealed a hint of disdain. He turned and walked deeper into the library. He had no intention of dealing with Li Ziming in the busy library entrance; such brazen behavior did not fit his style.
Moreover, Xiao Yi was growing increasingly suspicious of the library, and even the entire Z College, especially after the incident involving Beichen Feng. He could sense the mysterious elements of this institution, which ranked neither at the top nor bottom among domestic schools and did not stand out in any obvious way.
He had become more cautious in his actions at the college.
Watching Xiao Yi disappear into the distance, Li Ziming finally let go of his anxiety. His face twisted into an ugly expression as he silently ruminated over Xiao Yi’s words. Although said with a casual tone, the arrogance and dominance that seeped through were unmistakable!
The Li Family, as one of the top four Great Clans of G City, never faced such condescension. Even if they had become somewhat less prominent over the years, a skinny camel is still bigger than a horse; their influence as a colossal power in G City remained unparalleled. Not even the Zhao or Han families would dare to look down on them!
Yet Xiao Yi, this country bumpkin, had just scorned them so openly!
The Li family, I really don’t care about them at all!
That sentence, combined with the indifferent tone, was like a sharp sword stabbing deep into Li Ziming’s heart.
"Xiao, alright, you’re quite the arrogant one. I’ll see how long you can keep this up. Do you really think that by siding with the Zeng family, you can live worry-free in G City?"
Li Ziming clenched his fists tightly, his eyes filled with venom as he took one last glance at Xiao Yi, then slowly headed toward the place where he had agreed to meet his acquaintance.
Xiao Yi didn’t pay any attention to Li Ziming’s reaction behind him, nor did he look back to catch Li Ziming’s resentful gaze. Even without looking, he knew that Li Ziming wouldn’t have anything good to say about him. But he didn’t care; he didn’t see Li Ziming as any sort of threat.
In his eyes, Li Ziming was just like Gao Junjie and others of their ilk—mere jesters. The only difference was that this particular jester had some slightly better moves.
Xiao Yi had come to the library today with the intention of finding information about the college. As the intellectual hub, the library was not just the largest repository of knowledge but also a significant information center. (To be continued.
