Avery capitalized on the sudden confusion caused by the mercenaries Iniquus had enslaved collapsing and took aim at his four remaining guards.

These individuals were the leaders of his personal army, and all of them came from his home world and were extremely loyal to him without the need of an implant to force their submission.

A stream of rapidly fired blasts shot out of Avery's high-end laser rifle and hammered into the four guards' personal shield generators.

Naturally, the four well trained combatants got over their shock quickly and prepared to return fire.

However, before they could press down on their triggers, Avery kicked up the table between him and Iniquus to use it as a shield.

For a few moments, he and the guards traded fire, but that was a major mistake on their parts.

All of them had their undivided attention on him and had completely taken their eyes off of Grtio. A soon to be costly mistake.

Using four of his six arms, Grtio rolled spherical devices towards each of the unsuspecting guards.

Their shield generators were programed to only react to projectiles moving at a certain speed or faster, otherwise they would prevent the person they were protecting from being able to move.

As such, the devices Grtio had just sent their way passed through the force fields with ease and activated.

Four simultaneous bright flashes erupted around Iniquus' loyal guards.

Strong electrical currents arced out of the shock grenades and caused their muscles to seize up and their heads to go fuzzy.

Thanks to their body armor and cybernetic enchantments, they managed to stay conscious, but none of them would be moving for at least a few minutes.

It was about this time that a loud alarm started blaring through the station. A sign that Avery's companions had infiltrated the place.

"Looks like that's our win. I'd recommend that you surrender if you want to avoid any pain." Avery said, pointing his weapon directly at Iniquus and throwing the man's earlier words back at him.

Iniquus may have looked calm on the surface, but that was simply because he was seething with so much rage he was unable to even think.

The rat he thought he had easily lured in and trap had pulled off a miraculous reversal. All of his guards were out of commission, and he was completely alone. He could naturally call for more of his soldiers, but with the capabilities of the device Grtio had unknown, there was a good chance that he would simply be calling them in to be taken out without being able to put up a fight.

"Never in my life have I been so humiliated. Even if I have you ripped apart and put back together over and over again to experience an unending agonizing existence, I don't know if that will be enough to quell the fury I am feeling right n-"

Before Iniquus could finish his rant, Avery pulled down the trigger on his laser rifle and sent a powerful blast flying forward towards Iniquus.

It was the strongest attack the weapon could produce, and he figured that it would be able to pierce through any shield the man had protecting him. Avery had used nonlethal attacks against everyone else, but for Iniquus, he hardly cared if the man lived or died.

Yet to Avery's surprise, the powerful blast from his weapon failed to connect. A shimmering shield that had been invisible up until now absorbed the attack and completely dissipated it. Leaving Iniquus without a scratch on him.

'I guess I should have expected him to prepare some protection in advance considering he was meeting with someone he perceives as an enemy. I just did not think his defenses would be this solid.' Avery thought, seeing how ineffective his laser rifle had been.

In the next moment, he was even more surprised though.

While Iniquus appeared to be unarmed, he did in fact have quite the hidden trump card literally hidden up his sleeves.

A metallic gauntlet swiftly appeared and encased Iniquus' outstretched right hand.

In the center of it was a powerful laser emitter that he pointed directly at Avery.

There was a sudden bright flash of green light followed by a cacophonous explosion as the laser stuck.

Grtio watched in horror as Avery seemed to be blown apart, and he thought what he was left of the leader of the mercenaries assisting him get blown back against the wall behind him.

"Damn that hurt. I really wasn't expecting something like that." Avery grumbled as he walked out of the smoke caused by the explosion.

Despite having been hit by such a powerful blast, he was mostly unscathed. He had a few scorch marks on his clothing and certainly his back was a little sore from the impact, but he was fine otherwise.

When he had noticed the imminent strike about to hit him, he had forgone evasion and pulled out Ezra's hard light shield. Fortunately, the loaned piece of gear had been able to protect him. Going to show just how durable hard light equipment was.

"You know, I really did not peg you as the kind of guy to get his hands dirty. I figured that you were more the behind-the-scenes kind of megalomanic that likes to order people around because you can't do anything yourself." Avery jeered.

He had been caught by surprise, but he was not going to let that sway his confidence.

"I had been wondering where I was going to start when taking you apart, but now I know that that tongue of yours needs to go. I wonder if you will continue to make jokes once I'm done with you."

Iniquus had finally stood up from his seat and had a look of murder in his eyes. The object of his disdain was right in front of him, and there would be nothing that stopped him from enacting his revenge for all that had occurred.

With speed that could only come from biotic or cybernetic enhancements, Iniquus leapt forward like a feral animal that had found its prey after several days of searching. He had fully given into his rage and was going to tear Avery apart if it was the last thing he did.
