Chapter 460: Chapter 460: Human Sentiment

"Drink some water first, I just got it and it’s cooled down." An Yin looked at her chapped lips and quickly held the water to her mouth.

"I’ll do it myself." Shi Qing propped herself up on the bed as she spoke, sat up, and took the disposable plastic cup An Yin handed over.

"Oh."

After a nap, Shi Qing’s spirits had improved considerably.

"Gurgle..."

"Gurgle..."

In the noisy hospital room, two faint sounds emerged.

After exchanging a glance, An Yin and Shi Qing both smiled, their lips curling up in a clear bell-like laughter.

An Yin had never seen Shi Qing smile. Even though the black-framed glasses she wore covered half her face, seeing her lips curl up, An Yin’s gaze couldn’t help but pause for a few seconds.

Noticing An Yin’s gaze, Shi Qing quickly concealed her smile and awkwardly lowered her head, "What time is it now?"

"It’s past four in the afternoon." An Yin answered honestly.

"You haven’t eaten today, have you?"

With a slight glance, An Yin replied, "No."

"You go eat first, I’m fine staying in the hospital alone." Shi Qing never had the habit of relying on others since she was a child. Now that she’s sick, An Yin’s care feels slightly awkward for her.

She didn’t want to owe anyone favors, even though An Yin held a slightly special place in her heart.

An Yin, knowing Shi Qing hadn’t eaten either, nodded, "Then I’ll go get something to eat."

"Okay."

Due to the previous high fever, Shi Qing’s hair was damp, and even her clothes were wet in patches, making her look quite disheveled. Not until she saw An Yin get up to leave did she start tidying up her outfit and re-tie her ponytail.

In the hospital room where Shi Qing stayed, most were virus-infected patients. Doctors recommended everyone wear masks, especially those accompanying the patients.

In the crowded elevator, An Yin stood at the innermost position with a mask on.

After passing through the hall and walking a bit, she finally reached the cafeteria.

She ordered a bowl of porridge and a lunch box, packed them to go.

By Shi Qing’s bedside, there was a display reminding patients to maintain a light diet.

When returning to the inpatient building, she waited in front of the elevator, surrounded by many people. The elevator stopped at every floor, and most people were impatiently complaining.

An Yin stood aside, carrying things in both hands, trying to keep them steady to prevent the porridge inside the box from spilling out.

While waiting, An Yin tiptoed slightly to look toward the elevator, but many men in front of her blocked her view.

Just then, a familiar voice reached her ears.

"She should be fine, there’s no need for you to come in person." The woman turned her head, gazing seductively at the man beside her.

The tall man did not utter a word, seemingly ignoring the woman’s remarks altogether.

Seeing this, the woman lowered her head with a trace of disappointment in her eyes.

An Yin’s eyes widened slightly, her gaze falling on Wen Mei not far away.

Why is Wen Mei here? An Yin wondered silently.

As she was in a daze, the elevator doors slowly opened. Before those inside could exit, everyone crowded in, fearing they’d knock over the food in An Yin’s hands, she decided to wait for the next elevator.

With a slightly squinting, meticulously made-up eyeliner, Wen Mei watched the scene and couldn’t help but mutter, "What kind of manners do these people have..." Although her voice was low, many around her heard it and turned to look her way.

Ignoring their looks, Wen Mei let out a disdainful "hmph," clearly unimpressed.

Looking up, she noticed the man’s indifferent expression, feeling as if she had swallowed a fly, which made her feel irritable.

Wearing a mask that covered half her face, An Yin intended to greet Wen Mei, but just then, another elevator opened, and she watched as the two walked in. By the time she regained her senses, the doors had already closed.

An Yin pouted in frustration and continued to wait for the next one.

At the hospital room door, Wen Mei held a bag filled with fruit. When she reached the door, the man beside her stopped.

"Aren’t you going in?" Wen Mei asked, seeing the man standing by the wall, his handsome face touched with Su Ran.

"You go," the man said, pursing his lips tightly afterward.

Seeing the man’s somber demeanor, Wen Mei nodded, "I’ll go in first then."

Without waiting for his response, Wen Mei hid her inner disappointment and pushed open the hospital room door.

Outside, the man looked up, his clear gaze scanning the surroundings before finally finding a smoking area according to the signs on the wall.

In no time, he reached the end of the hallway, where many men congregated, each with a cigarette, enveloped in smoke. The man stood in a corner, and as he smoked, he took out his phone, unlocked it, and gazed at a photo on the screen. His cold gaze softened gradually.

Smoke clouded his vision, making it hazy, yet the youthful, vibrant face of the girl in the photo seemed etched into his heart.

"Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of her!"

After a long while, the man softly murmured a cool promise. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

When An Yin arrived at the hospital room, she saw Wen Mei chatting with Shi Qing.

"An Yin!" Wen Mei greeted An Yin from the foot of the bed.

"Sister Mei." An Yin called out dazedly, surprised to see her visiting Shi Qing. If she hadn’t mistaken earlier, Sister Mei was accompanied by a man, yet An Yin couldn’t spot him around.

The man had his back to her, so An Yin hadn’t seen his face clearly.

"Seeing you have someone to care for you, I feel relieved." Wen Mei flashed a smile at Shi Qing.

"Thank you for coming to see me," Shi Qing said, somewhat formally.

"Haha, no need to be polite." Wen Mei glanced around the hospital room, occasionally covering her nose with her hand.

The room was small, with four beds, and a few caregivers. With more people, the air became stuffy, and an unpleasant smell lingered, making it unbearable.

Shi Qing noticed Wen Mei’s discomfort and was about to speak when Wen Mei saw what An Yin was carrying and quickly said, "Since you haven’t eaten yet, I won’t disturb you."

"All right." Shi Qing, not fond of small talk, replied woodenly.

"Goodbye!" Wen Mei waved to both of them.

An Yin smiled, "Goodbye!"

After Wen Mei left, Shi Qing looked at the bag on the bedside cabinet and let out a deep breath.

She felt she wasn’t that familiar with Wen Mei, yet somehow it seemed this woman was overly concerned with her? Perhaps she was just being too sensitive, Shi Qing thought.
