Chapter 13 - 13 Cold

For the next while, An Yin didn't dare to make a sound,

that earlier "Brother" must have slipped out carelessly.

Her already anxious heart felt even more timid at this moment.

An Yin quietly turned her head towards the car window, the dark night and unfamiliar roads outside made her heart tighten.

Where is this?

Where is Bao Cheng's cousin taking her?

Her fear was written all over her face, anyone could see what she was thinking at a glance.

"Have you joined a theater group?"

Just as An Yin's breathing became erratic and she was on high alert not knowing what to do, the man's deep voice broke the silence.

An Yin's whole body tensed up.

A theater group?

An Yin couldn't immediately recall why the man was asking her this. She bowed her head to think for a moment, and then a spark lit up her mind. She remembered the first time Bao Cheng introduced her; only then did she understand the context.

She almost forgot about this matter.

At the time, Bao Cheng had taken her to ask for a spot in the theater group, actually for Keke.

However, she had been taking care of her mother recently and hadn't had time to ask Keke if she had gone to the theater group. An Yin was momentarily at a loss on how to respond.

Bao Shaojin saw she wasn't speaking and didn't force her, instead he changed the subject.

"Where to?" Bao Shaojin asked again.

This time, An Yin could clearly feel the atmosphere in the car turning significantly colder.

When facing this man, An Yin always felt like her brain couldn't keep up. His words were too brief, and An Yin always had to guess their deeper meaning.

Bao Shaojin glanced at her delicate and exquisite face, his sharp eyes narrowing slightly.

Why does he feel like this girl doesn't understand human speech?

"T, T University," An Yin shouted in a high-pitched voice.

It was only after she had spoken that she realized her voice was too piercing in the confined space.

Sure enough, Bao Shaojin's face darkened in the next second.

The car sped off the ring road and raced towards the school An Yin mentioned.

In less than ten minutes, the car stopped in front of the main gate of T University.

Through the car window, An Yin noticed many students glancing in their direction.

Summoning her courage, An Yin murmured, "Could you drive a little further and then turn right? Just drop me off at the corner." By the time she finished speaking, her voice was as soft as a mosquito's hum, pathetically weak.

Bao Shaojin's deep eyes cast a cold-like gaze towards her.

Guiltily, she quickly lowered her head, her lovely face showing just a hint of fair skin, notably eye-catching, like the pure snow of winter, invitingly clean and flawless.

Such a face, no wonder it caught Bao Cheng's attention.

However, Bao Cheng probably had no idea that his girlfriend was making connections with others behind his back.

Bao Shaojin withdrew his gaze, and the somberness in his eyes gradually faded. The next second, he started the car and drove to the corner she mentioned.

Bao Shaojin hadn't expected that she would care about others' opinions. Considering she was with his ostentatious cousin, her character seemed excessively timid.

As he was immersed in thought, the girl's soft voice reached his ears.

"The car door won't open," An Yin weakly uttered.

Bao Shaojin lightly pressed a button.

An Yin opened the car door, intending to close it as she got out, and awkwardly looked at the man in the driver's seat with a noble demeanor. His tall and imposing stature inexplicably gave a sense of oppression. She repressed the fear in her heart and sincerely said, "Thank you so much for today..."

When An Yin reached the end of her sentence, unsure of how to address him, she politely called out again, "Brother."

As she uttered this address, her soft tone was as tender and sweet as a lover's whisper, inadvertently alluring.

Seeing that the man had no intention of responding, An Yin cautiously closed the car door.

Before she could raise her head, the man's car sped away in a flash.

An Yin, "..."

Did Bao Cheng's cousin not like her at all? The thought suddenly popped into An Yin's mind.

The evening breeze was slightly cool, drifting by in gusts.

An Yin shivered and hurried towards her dormitory.

The first thing she did upon returning to her dorm was take a shower, change her clothes, and then curl up in bed.

Subsequently, she took out her phone and found her mom's goodnight message, to which she replied with one of her own.

The next moment, she stared at Jiang Keke's WeChat for a few seconds, typed a line of text, and sent it.

[Keke, come back soon.]

After sending the message, she sneezed, recalling how she got caught in the rain, she had an ominous feeling.

She lay on her bed, continuously staring at the chat interface with Jiang Keke, and before she knew it, she had fallen asleep.

When she got up early the next day, An Yin only felt dizzy, with a blocked nose. She touched her forehead, noticing a slight fever, instantly feeling drained of energy.

As she seemed to recall something, An Yin looked at Jiang Keke's bed, neatly made, clearly empty the whole night.

Quickly, An Yin grabbed her phone and opened the WeChat chat interface with Jiang Keke.

There were messages from the other side.

[Yinyin, I won't come back tonight, sleep early.]

[Yinyin, I've taken the morning off, won't attend class.]

Looking at these two messages, An Yin's eyes drifted slightly.

She didn't need to guess; Keke must have been with Bao Cheng last night.

But, Keke didn't come back all night; does that mean they...

An Yin dared not think further, her already fevered face flushing even redder.

An Yin told herself internally, Keke is an adult now, she shouldn't interfere too much in others' affairs.

An Yin held her phone and replied to Jiang Keke with a message.

[Okay.]

Due to her cold, An Yin was listless during class and didn't even feel like going to the cafeteria for lunch, preferring to return to the dorm to rest a while.

Just as she reached the dorm's entrance, a phone rang.

An alarm bell went off in An Yin's mind as she suddenly recalled the previous time she called her mom. Until she saw the name "Keke" on the screen, her wildly beating heart gradually calmed down.

"Keke," An Yin called out.

There was no response from Jiang Keke on the other end for a long time, prompting An Yin to sense something was amiss, and she anxiously asked, "Keke, what's wrong? Where are you?" At the thought of her being with Bao Cheng and not coming back last night, An Yin's heart was in turmoil.

"I'm okay." Hearing An Yin's anxious tone, Jiang Keke immediately reassured her.

For the remaining conversation, An Yin listened, her mood growing heavier and her face redder as the call continued.

Ending the call, she absentmindedly put the phone back into her pocket.

Standing still for a moment, her heart wrestled with itself, and finally, she lifted her steps. Thinking of what Jiang Keke had just said, she quickened her pace towards the outside of the school.

Occasionally, there were students passing by. Remembering Jiang Keke's advice over the phone, An Yin headed directly to the bus stop.

At a large pharmacy in the city center.

An Yin walked into the store, immediately greeted by a salesperson eager to ask what she needed.
