It was only upon returning to the hotel that Nora Scott learned from Pedro Langley about "Camilo Nogueira being kidnapped."
"Ransom?"
Nora remained relatively calm, sipped some cold drink to soothe her throat, and then calmly asked those two words.
"I don’t know. He’s been kidnapped for three hours, and there hasn’t been any word from the kidnappers so far." Pedro Langley was also very calm, showing no hint of panic over his "partner being kidnapped."
Those who didn’t know might think he was eager to see Camilo Nogueira out of the way because of a rift between them.
"Then how did you know Camilo Nogueira was kidnapped?" Nora asked suspiciously.
Pedro replied, "He had a meeting this afternoon. Five minutes before entering the company, he was still on the phone with his assistant. Half an hour later, when the assistant hadn’t seen him appear, he found his car in the parking lot but not him."
"Checked the surveillance?"
"The surveillance showed that he entered the parking lot five minutes after ending the call with his assistant but was not seen coming out again. The cameras near where he parked were all damaged."
With an acknowledging hum, Nora agreed with the kidnapping speculation, pondered for a moment, and then said, "Kidnapping him without asking for ransom, what’s the motive?"
"The police want to know too."
Pedro spoke bluntly and helplessly.
It was obvious that they had already reported to the police and were investigating Camilo Nogueira’s whereabouts. Pedro happened to be in the company and was one of those aware of the incident; he was also the one who reported it. Nora was only informed because she called Pedro after returning to the hotel.
Sensing danger, as his partner was in trouble, Nora thought it over and said, "I’ll have someone look into it."
"Hmm?"
"Just wait for the news."
Nora hung up the phone.
After putting away the phone, Nora called Rosie Sullivan, briefly explained the situation, and then had Rosie come over.
Five minutes later, Rosie rang the doorbell to Nora’s room and entered.
"I just got off the phone with Minister Robbins, the tech department is on it." Rosie got straight to the point without any unnecessary words, "They will investigate all the vehicles that left within the half-hour from when Camilo Nogueira took the call until his disappearance was discovered, and then check them one by one. Don’t worry, they work efficiently and will surely be faster than the police."
"..."
Always having a bit of skepticism about Biel Hall’s efficiency, Nora gave Rosie a meaningful look but made no comment.
"Will we get news tonight?" Nora asked.
"Barring any surprises, we definitely will." Rosie cautiously replied.
Barring any surprises.
Nora massaged her forehead and then wordlessly headed towards the wardrobe at the door.
Rosie hurriedly took two steps forward, "Hall Master, where are you going?"
"...Taking a bath."
Nora opened the wardrobe and took out a hanging nightgown.
Rosie: "..."
It seems that this Camilo Nogueira isn’t very significant to the Hall Master.
*
This time, Biel Hall finally dispelled Nora’s bias against them by obtaining useful information within two hours.
The task of tracing every vehicle was indeed significant, and retrieving surveillance footage was troublesome. But the tech department was neither short on staff nor technology. Having been motivated by Nora’s previous two showdowns, they were determined to showcase their capabilities, so they worked with great enthusiasm, examining and tracking numerous vehicles.
After filtering out the purposeful, normal vehicles, they only tracked two vans.
Ten minutes after Camilo Nogueira entered the parking lot, the vans left one after the other, less than five minutes apart. The two vehicles headed in different directions and changed vehicles multiple times. Each vehicle, upon checking, was reported stolen.
It was challenging to trace every vehicle swap, but luckily, Camilo Nogueira hadn’t been missing for long. Also, Biel Hall’s reach extends beyond online technology to the offline society.
With just one mass text message from tech, every hidden Biel Hall member within the vast Fenton City received the alert almost instantly.
Clues flooded in from all directions.
"..."
Nora suddenly thought that Benjamin’s description of Biel Hall as a "pyramid scheme" was somewhat apt.
Out of billions of people, less than ten percent even know Biel Hall exists, and even fewer become official members. However, due to the large base, the number of members is terrifyingly high.
Thankfully, it’s an officially supervised institution. Otherwise, if such an organization went astray, the consequences would be unimaginable.
In short, two hours later, Nora received several addresses and had Biel Hall send them to the police handling the case with an official endorsement, urging them to send a team for rescue.
The police were also efficient.
At one o’clock in the morning, while still asleep, Nora received a call from Pedro Langley.
"They found Camilo Nogueira," Pedro said.
"Alive?"
Instantly awake, Nora grasped for the essential information.
"Alive." Pedro paused for two seconds, then added, "He’s currently being rescued in the hospital."
"What happened?"
"He managed to save himself, fought with several thugs, and got seriously injured," Pedro explained. "When the police arrived, most of the thugs were already handled. There seems to be a mastermind behind it all, but they escaped just before the police arrived."
"He knows how to fight?"
"..."
Pedro felt his girlfriend might be missing the point but couldn’t quite say it, so he chuckled helplessly and replied, "His family has always been at risk of kidnapping since childhood, so they’ve trained."
Nora cleared her throat, shifting the topic, "Why kidnap him? Does he have enemies?"
"I don’t know. The thugs were just hired and didn’t know the mastermind," Pedro said, his tone suddenly sober, "But right before Camilo Nogueira lost consciousness, he uttered three words."
"What?"
"Master Sliver."
"..."
Nora’s eyelids twitched.
