Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 98: Medical Expenses
When Scarlett Shaw drove Jasper Spencer’s sports car back to her own hotel, she bumped right into Skyler Miller, hurrying out from inside at the entrance.
As soon as Skyler saw Scarlett, the anxiety on her face immediately eased; she let out a sigh of relief and said, "Couldn’t reach you at all last night—I thought something unexpected happened in the negotiation and was just about to go find you."
Skyler’s original plan yesterday was to go together with Scarlett today.
But then, early this morning, she got a message from Aaron Carson, telling her to handle something else.
By the time she was done and got back, it was already night. She thought Scarlett must have wrapped things up, but unexpectedly, hadn’t gotten any replies or answered calls.
Her sense of unease just kept getting stronger.
"We discussed some details—it took a bit longer than expected."
Scarlett glossed over the parts she shouldn’t mention, answering simply.
Skyler: "Let me see the contract."
Scarlett blanked for a moment, looked down at her empty hands, and felt a headache coming on.
Feeling uneasy, she said to Skyler, "Skyler, could I trouble you to check with President Ford? Maybe I left it with him."
Skyler didn’t think anything of it and messaged Julian Ford.
He quickly replied with a simple "Yeah."
"It’s with President Ford."
Skyler didn’t sense anything odd. Having the boss keep the contract to review and make comments was probably for the best.
What she didn’t expect was, right after the "Yeah", Julian Ford sent another message:
-Scarlett’s back at the hotel?
Skyler: Yeah, she’s back safe.
Julian: Okay.
That got Skyler a bit surprised. "President Ford seems pretty concerned about you. Did you do great today or something?"
Scarlett raised her hand, running her fingertip along her nose.
Yeah, "pretty great."
Played a little bondage game with the boss, acted as a beggar for love, and to top it off, almost crushed his hand black and blue.
Scarlett stared in despair at the ceiling.
No idea if she’d even have a job waiting for her after this.
As a tragic salarywoman, whether it’s the urge to resign or the premonition of being fired—the kneejerk reaction is always to open some LinkedIn-like app and grandly scout for that supposedly better next job.
Scarlett, of course, was no exception either.
But after scrolling for quite a while, she still felt that Veridian’s old lair was the best.
High salary, good benefits, even overtime gets paid overtime wages. These past two years, her burden of debt had eased a lot.
And honestly, Scarlett was really reluctant to leave Skyler.
To have a mentor, a friend, and a boss who treats you like a sister—it’s truly precious.
The hotel room was plenty warm, heating cranked up. Scarlett had just finished her shower and came out in a short-sleeved pajama top, looking down at her phone, silky black hair falling down as she tucked it back behind her ear.
Skyler happened to look up, and what she saw was the shocking bite mark on Scarlett’s earlobe.
And the faint, ambiguous hickey just at the edge of her pajama collar on her slender neck.
The marks were strong, so unmistakably sexy.
Just one glance was enough to imagine the wild, passionate scenes involved.
Skyler’s heart immediately became a churning storm.
She hadn’t expected that Scarlett and Aaron Carson had gotten to that stage already.
This assistant Carson—he might look all gentle and honest, but when it comes to these things, turns out he’s a barely-restrained "beast."
The sheer magnitude of this discovery truly shocked Skyler.
But since Scarlett hadn’t brought it up herself, Skyler guessed she probably wasn’t planning to go public just yet.
Out of respect for privacy, Skyler kept her mouth shut and pretended she’d seen nothing, deciding to stash it in her heart and wait till Scarlett was ready to declare it before interrogating her properly.
Scarlett had no idea Skyler was already mentally calculating how much cash to give at her and Aaron’s future wedding. Exhausted in body and mind, Scarlett’s head barely touched the pillow before she was out cold.
The next day they were flying home; when Scarlett woke up and remembered her bag, she hesitated and said to Skyler:
"Skyler, I left my bag with President Ford yesterday—my documents are all in there. I’m a little scared of him—when you go pick up the contract, could you also help grab my bag?"
Skyler instinctively almost teased, Why not just have your Aaron pick it up for you?
But then remembered—they’re probably keeping things under wraps, wouldn’t want to draw suspicion.
So, without thinking too much, she agreed.
The flight was in the afternoon. After packing up, Skyler contacted Aaron to check Julian Ford’s schedule.
That’s when she learned Julian Ford and Aaron Carson were also flying home today.
So they agreed to just get the contract at the airport.
At the airport, Aaron was waiting for them alone at the security gate; when Skyler walked up, he handed her the file folder in his hand.
Skyler took it, thanked him, and asked curiously, "Where’s Scarlett’s bag?"
Aaron smiled awkwardly, "President Ford said he needs to talk to Scarlett—told her to go find him herself."
Scarlett’s face paled slightly.
Seeing this, Skyler patted her on the shoulder and tried to soothe her: "Go on, President Ford’s just a person, not that scary."
Scarlett: "..."
Julian Ford is a person, but hell if he ever acts like one.
The old fox, as sly and wily as ever.
Always finding new ways to make her jump through hoops for him.
Scarlett silently sent a "lovely" blessing in her heart: Julian Ford, you’d better not die before me, or I swear I’ll go dance on your grave.
Julian, of course, couldn’t hear Scarlett’s pretty little curses.
At that moment, he was sitting in the VIP lounge, poised and impeccably elegant. When Scarlett walked in, her bag was sitting neatly right on the table in front of Julian Ford.
Maybe sensing her gaze, Julian looked over at her, cool and indifferent.
Honestly, before going in, Scarlett’s heart was pounding a bit.
After all, just yesterday, all her silly little crush feelings had been laid out right in front of him. No way she wasn’t the slightest bit rattled inside.
It’s just—clearly, the man in front of her wasn’t taking it seriously at all.
Still acting aloof as always.
Still just as cold.
But, to his credit, he kept his word: her confession truly didn’t affect his attitude toward her.
Makes sense, too—someone with Julian Ford’s status must’ve been confessed to by women a million times. She, Scarlett Shaw, was hardly anyone special—how could she expect any reaction?
Once that clicked, Scarlett didn’t feel so pressured anymore; she strolled up relaxed and greeted him politely: "President Ford."
Julian picked up his coffee cup and took a calm sip.
The hand wrapped around the cup’s handle was still purple and bruised—injuries like this only look worse the next day.
Scarlett’s gaze lingered on it for a second, just about to look away when Julian suddenly glanced up, locking her in with his jet-black eyes.
She kept her expression neutral, picked up her bag, and turned to go.
Julian spoke coolly: "Remember to see Aaron Carson."
Scarlett was puzzled, about to ask why she needed to see Aaron,
but Julian had already looked away with a face that said he didn’t even want to waste another word on her.
Back at security, Scarlett relayed the message to Aaron, who pulled out his phone and sent her a bill in silence. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
"President Ford’s hand," Aaron said, "that was you, wasn’t it?"
Scarlett took a look. Well, wasn’t that just what she expected.
A medical bill for Julian Ford’s hand injury, naturally.
