Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 178: Cannot Be Reached
Theodore Carson’s voice was low and slow, devoid of any extra emotion.
After all, the matter was too long ago, the case was sealed, and the four of them, dead or dispersed, could never go back.
But Scarlett Shaw was still young.
She couldn’t remain calm.
In her mind, there was still a trace of her beautiful mother, whose image collapsed not only in the family but also had such an unfortunate past in both life and career.
She bit her lip tightly, tasted the blood, but felt increasingly breathless inside.
Theodore Carson adopted a parent-like stance, patted her shoulder, and comforted her, saying, "These things are in the past. You should live well and not worry too much about her. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, and she spent her life in self-reproach, not feeling good."
Scarlett didn’t feel at ease.
Instead, she felt an inexplicable, growing anxiety.
This anxiety pushed her to ask, "When my mom made that mistake, what exactly was her action?"
"These are police secrets. You’re an unrelated person and cannot be disclosed."
Theodore Carson said sternly.
"What I’m telling you today, just keep in your heart. No matter what, Serena has her own life, and you have yours. Don’t be tied to the past generation’s history."
After Theodore Carson finished speaking, he was much more serious than before.
He gave Scarlett no further chance to ask questions.
However, out of concern for the younger generation, Theodore Carson personally called a car and watched the dejected Scarlett get in before turning back to the police station.
At the station.
Theodore Carson asked his colleague about the background of Liam Spencer being locked up.
Colleague: "He got into trouble with the Fords’ eldest son Julian Ford’s girlfriend by taking drugs, got beaten into a pulp, and ended up here."
The policeman who had just taken Scarlett’s statement was surprised and said, "Julian Ford’s girlfriend? Could it be that young girl named Scarlett who was here just now?"
Scarlett hadn’t mentioned Julian Ford’s name earlier, but now hearing this, the statement matched up.
Theodore Carson’s eyes suddenly deepened.
His calloused, dark fingers tapped the table as he asked, "Liam Spencer was just taking drugs, nothing else? Have you investigated his supply channels?"
The colleague had a troubled look and only said, "Liam Spencer’s case could be big or small because of Julian Ford’s pressure, he’s been locked up for a long time, but the Spencer family..."
Theodore Carson nodded, understanding the implication.
But his face was still sullen as he said, "Assign someone to follow Liam Spencer. This kid is definitely not taking drugs for the first time; people like him don’t change just because they get caught once. There will surely be new discoveries!"
"Yes!"
Scarlett got a call from the station two days later, saying that the three punks who smashed her car had been caught.
However, the three punks insisted they just couldn’t stand the rich and randomly chose an unlucky person to retaliate against society.
These guys were repeat offenders, often committing petty offenses, frequent visitors to the station, familiar with the territory. Even if someone was indeed orchestrating them from behind, nothing could be figured out from questioning them.
The policeman handling the case recalled Theodore Carson’s instructions and said to Scarlett:
"Be more cautious recently. If you sense anything amiss, call me immediately."
Scarlett nodded.
However, there are things that can’t be prevented by mere caution.
Moreover, those three punks were indeed arranged by Liam Spencer.
Two fists cannot withstand four hands; no matter how vigilant Scarlett was, how could she overcome the natural strength advantage males have over females?
Liam Spencer didn’t have the ability to directly retaliate against Julian Ford. In his drug-addled, atrophied brain, Scarlett was a woman played by both Julian Ford and Ryan Ford, tossed aside when bored, a natural target for a good lesson.
Otherwise, how could he vent after being locked up for so many days?
...
Veridian.
Nearing noon, Lily took a break from work, wanting to chat idly with Scarlett, but turned to find her workstation still empty, and even the computer wasn’t on.
Lily felt a bit strange, and during lunchtime, she asked Skyler Miller, "Is Scarlett feeling unwell today and taking leave again, or is she out on a field assignment?"
Skyler Miller was startled for a moment and said, "She didn’t come to the office?"
Lily: "I haven’t seen her all morning."
Skyler Miller hadn’t received any notice of Scarlett taking leave.
Nor were there any projects requiring travel recently.
She took out her phone, checked the workflow on the office platform, and found no online leave request from Scarlett, causing her to furrow her brows.
Lily whispered, "Could Scarlett be with President Ford and forgot to take leave?"
"Scarlett wouldn’t."
Skyler Miller said.
"They’ve been dating for a while, and when have you ever seen Scarlett acting like President Ford’s girlfriend? Besides us two, Assistant Carson, and The Fords’ Second Son, no one else in the company knows about them."
Liam Spencer’s scandal made the relationship between Julian Ford and Scarlett public in high society circles, but the trigger was Liam Spencer’s disgrace.
The Spencer family, naturally, exerted great pressure to suppress it.
Within the circle, no news spread, and outside the circle, even less so.
Upon hearing Skyler Miller’s words, Lily thought it made sense, and feeling worried, she said, "Then why wasn’t Scarlett at work? Could she be so sick that she couldn’t get out of bed?"
After Lily spoke, Skyler Miller noticed Chloe Grant approaching and immediately asked, "Chloe, have you heard from Scarlett today?"
Chloe Grant, with a hint of confusion in her eyes, replied coldly, "No."
Skyler Miller: "Really not?"
Once she understood Ryan Ford’s genuine interest in Scarlett, Chloe Grant had no intention to pursue her own little schemes anymore, even if she had any, she was too lazy to use them.
After all, from her perspective, plotting against Scarlett would involve paying a higher price, so why bother with such foolishness?
However, Chloe Grant remained cautious and asked, "What’s wrong with her?"
Skyler Miller: "I can’t reach her. If you find anything out, let me know, I’m worried about her."
Chloe Grant was slightly taken aback, "Wasn’t she working overtime at the company till late last night?"
How could she be unreachable after just one night?
Of course, Chloe Grant had her doubts, but she was uninterested in wasting her thoughts on Scarlett’s issues, so she casually agreed to Skyler Miller’s request and went to another table for lunch.
In today’s workplace, in big companies like Veridian, when an employee is absent without reason for a day, normally, if there’s no urgent matter, colleagues won’t care, and bosses even less so.
It would simply be recorded as an absence and result in some pay deduction. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Indifference wouldn’t be right; after all, everyone’s too busy with their own affairs to care about others.
Even within the investment department, only Skyler Miller and Lily noticed Scarlett’s absence for the day.
After work, Skyler Miller visited Scarlett’s home.
However, she was unaware Scarlett had moved and went to Scarlett’s previously rented apartment.
Naturally, she found nothing.
Skyler Miller’s already worry-filled heart grew heavier.
In her view, such sudden disappearance was absolutely not something Scarlett’s personality could intentionally do.
The likelihood of an accident was very high.
She contemplated for a while, and finally made a call to Julian Ford.
