Chapter 157: Chapter 157: Don’t You Think of Me?

It’s truly rare for Julian Ford to experience setbacks twice in a row.

Scarlett Shaw’s radiant smile couldn’t be suppressed.

However, uncorking the champagne prematurely has always been a big taboo.

Julian Ford soon remarked, with a subtle smile, "You’re rather optimistic about our relationship now."

Scarlett Shaw replied indifferently, "You really like me now."

Julian Ford said, "I like you now, but how do you know I’ll still like you in the future? The possibility of feelings fading away isn’t insignificant."

These words were spoken so calmly and naturally, like casually asking if you’ve eaten today.

Scarlett Shaw said faintly, "If you keep talking like this, then all I can say is congratulations."

Julian Ford raised an eyebrow, "?"

Scarlett Shaw said, "You’ve won first place in the ’pouring cold water’ competition, claiming the crown. But unfortunately, not only do you not have a prize, but you also earned a medal saying ’girlfriend is already angry’."

Amused by Scarlett’s words, Julian Ford chuckled softly.

His charming smile left Scarlett somewhat bewitched, "Julian, if we ever argue again, just smile at me, and I’ll surely calm down."

Julian Ford didn’t engage in her banter, "Sure, you’ll calm down, but what about my anger? You think you’re not irritating enough."

Scarlett Shaw, "..."

The banter today ended in a draw between the two, and Scarlett spent the night at Cloud Mansion and moved into her new home the next day.

Along with the new house keys, she also received a parking space and a brand-new car parked there.

Receiving the car keys from Julian, Scarlett said thoughtfully, "I finally understand what it feels like to latch onto a sugar daddy."

Julian Ford looked at her with interest, "Tell me more."

Scarlett Shaw said, "First comes the guilt and reluctance, fearing to accept it. Then there’s anxiety, half-resisting, half-accepting. Now, I’m thoroughly spoiled and pleasantly surprised."

Julian Ford chuckled lightly, "You’ve summed it up quite succinctly."

Scarlett Shaw said, "I’m mentally prepared now."

Julian Ford said, "Hmm?"

"If anyone ever says I’m shamelessly climbing high and doing it for money, I’ll just think about the car and house you gifted me, and I’ll be unbeatable, untouchable!"

Hearing this, Julian Ford lowered his gaze and pinched her chin, "Is it just these?"

After some thought, Scarlett said, "There’s also the RMB you transferred to me."

Julian Ford’s breath cooled slightly, "Don’t you think of me?"

"No need; you’re always in my heart."

Scarlett Shaw laughed and hugged her boyfriend.

...

After moving into her new home, Scarlett didn’t get to enjoy the extra hour of sleep before work for long, as she was soon sent to Cloud Harbor City for a business trip.

This time in Cloud Harbor was indeed not as smooth as the last.

Some clients she had met last time were clearly more difficult this time. Fortunately, she had prepared well in advance and was quick on her feet, so although tricky, she managed to handle everything calmly and efficiently.

The last visit was with Kyle York.

Kyle, upon seeing her, was much more proper than last time, not saying anything weird like having met before, sticking only to work topics and exchanging a few daily pleasantries.

Scarlett naturally enjoyed the ease.

Once business was concluded, Kyle suddenly suggested, "Manager Shaw, how about dinner tonight? You’ve worked hard coming all the way to Cloud Harbor, and we have long-term collaboration ahead."

Kyle’s smile was courteous, and as the client, Scarlett didn’t really have any reason to refuse.

The previous unfavorable initial impression was merely her perception, without any concrete evidence.

Seeing her hesitation, Kyle laughed, "Since you’ll be the point of contact for Veridian, you’ll be frequenting our Cloud Harbor. Getting to know more people and familiarizing with the local scene will be beneficial, wouldn’t it?"

Scarlett had intended to agree, so with Kyle’s persuasion, she nodded with a smile.

Both arrived at the restaurant.

Just as she got out of the car, a roar of an accelerating engine approached from afar.

A swift motorbike, modified in pure black, stylishly came to a halt before her and Kyle, the rider clad in leather and boots, jumping off swiftly.

The person was slender and agile, with a striking figure, and as Scarlett began to react, Kyle laughed: 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

"Making an entrance with such flair, don’t scare my friend, Mia."

"Who the hell’s your sister."

The woman deftly removed her helmet, her bright and striking features barely smiling, locking eyes with Kyle.

"You, nearly forty, calling me your sister? Either you think I’m elderly, or you’re wishing me a short life?"

As she spoke, her gaze fell on Scarlett.

Kyle promptly introduced, "This is Manager Shaw from Veridian’s Investment Division, Scarlett Shaw."

Mia smiled openly and nodded at Scarlett, "Hi, Mia."

Scarlett responded politely.

Once seated in a private room and the order placed, Mia took the initiative to address her purpose with Scarlett, "Manager Shaw, I’m the head of marketing at Dragonspire Properties. I’m actually looking to find an opportunity to collaborate with Veridian."

Scarlett Shaw said, "The biggest real estate company in Cloud Harbor, Dragonspire Properties?"

Mia smiled, "Yes."

Scarlett Shaw said, "Your company has developed quite well recently."

Although the real estate industry has been declining in recent years, Dragonspire Properties remains dominant in Cloud Harbor. However, Veridian had withdrawn almost all real estate investments three years ago, sparing only those with high-level connections.

Scarlett certainly didn’t have the authority to make exceptions.

This implied a polite refusal.

Mia clearly came prepared, interpreting Scarlett’s subtleties without showing any change in expression, continuing with sincere words. Her beautiful and vivid features bore a smile, yet her assertiveness was formidable and confidence fierce.

Even Kyle beside her felt his presence dwindling.

Scarlett seemed to have a mild demeanor at first glance, and interacting with Kyle on the previous occasions was gentle and non-aggressive.

Yet facing Mia’s dominance, she remained serenely composed and unperturbed.

Having been subdued by Julian Ford’s overpowering aura for half a year, Scarlett had developed immunity to confrontational energy.

After encountering barriers repeatedly, Mia glanced disapprovingly at Kyle during Scarlett’s restroom break, "What’s going on, isn’t she supposed to be easy to talk to? Why does she seem so unyielding?"

Kyle said, "I didn’t expect this either; interacting with her seemed mild-tempered."

Mia threw two big eye rolls at him, "Who told you mild-tempered means no principles?"

Kyle said, "Anyway, I’ve done all I should; whether you succeed and your reporting goes well is your concern."

Mia laughed mockingly.
