Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 145: You Two Really Are a Good Match
Scarlett Shaw looked at the two of them: "Julian Ford has left, you guys shouldn’t just stand here, let me help you set up the tents."
Skyler Miller and Lily exchanged a glance but didn’t hesitate, they took out their respective tents and started setting them up.
Scarlett watched the two working quickly, crying and laughing, "Who said it was too humid to like it, and who said they don’t like watching the sunrise?"
Skyler Miller: "Today I discovered for the first time that President Ford has a surprisingly down-to-earth side. Scarlett, you really have a way with managing your boyfriend, calling out ’President Ford’ so casually, and yet he’s still so good-tempered with you."
Scarlett Shaw widened her eyes, "I don’t."
Clearly, she was utterly dominated by Julian Ford.
Lily: "How can you deny it? Look at how well President Ford listens to you, doing whatever you say."
Scarlett muttered quietly, "That’s because he’s still making amends."
Once her anger dissipated, someone’s tricky side might show again, effortlessly controlling her.
After setting up the tents, Scarlett rested for a while. When she lifted her gaze, she instinctively looked in the direction Julian Ford had left, but there was no sign of him.
Instead, she noticed Ryan Ford, who was still flirting, noticed her gaze. He halted the women surrounding him mid-conversation, stood up, and walked straight towards her.
"Looking for my brother?" Ryan Ford held a cigarette in his mouth and broke into a smile, "He accompanied you specially this morning, but took the cable car down just now. This place wants to discuss cooperation with the Ford family, and he needs to be present at the meeting."
Scarlett didn’t respond to this. As Ryan clicked his lighter, she frowned and said, "I don’t like the smell of smoke."
Ryan paused his movement, the cigarette unlit, as if recalling something, he laughed mockingly.
"My brother indeed doesn’t smoke much, unless he’s in a particularly bad mood. You two are quite compatible. But liking him as a person, that’s another matter."
Scarlett: "Both of you doing this, don’t go calling one brother out; about yourself, you should know what you’re like."
"I’ve always been a rotten person."
Ryan admitted openly.
"But Scarlett, back then I didn’t touch you, not because I found you dirty, but because I couldn’t bear to. Do you believe me?"
Indeed, there were other factors that made his already conflicted mindset even more tangled.
But Ryan was never cold-hearted, and during those years with Scarlett, he saw in her true nature but forced himself to deny it. How could the daughter of a murderer be so wonderful?
And the person Ryan hated most in his life, besides Serena Ford, suspected of killing his mother, was Ezra Ford.
This man was the one who ruined his mother’s life.
Yet ironically, he too became a man who couldn’t control his own desires. In comparison, the one thing Ryan was better than Ezra was he acknowledged he was a promiscuous person but he never hurt Scarlett, who truly liked him.
Ryan didn’t wait for Scarlett’s response and mocked himself, "I knew you wouldn’t believe it."
"I believe it, a tiny bit."
Scarlett’s words coincided with his, her voice sounded like wind chimes, yet suddenly struck him deeply.
Ryan chuckled lightly.
His striking peach blossom eyes brimmed with rebellion and helplessness.
Looking at her mischievous and lively eyes, oddly enough, though she was Serena Ford’s daughter, he felt she was as gentle, resilient, pure, and unsullied as his mother.
During Ryan’s childhood, Nina Shawcross raised him alone in a less than thirty-square meter rented apartment, working by day and toiling in nightclubs by night. Such a young and beautiful woman, one who deserved a bright future, could only walk in darkness.
During school, some classmates saw Nina accompanying men in bars and insulted her in front of an eight-year-old Ryan, who broke several of their ribs.
Once Nina found out, she took out the expenses for both of them for three months to pay for medical bills.
Ryan was quick to acknowledge his mistakes, lowered his head, and apologized to his mother. Yet Nina wasn’t upset, she just hugged her child gently and said:
"Mom knows Little Ryan acted out of love, but there are better ways to love someone. Don’t act like this again."
Since then, Ryan never got into fights anymore.
He didn’t care what work Nina did, didn’t care if they were poor, and never wanted to see the so-called father. He only wanted to be with his mother and quickly grow up to earn money to make her happy.
Until one day, when he returned home, waiting for him was Nina’s cold, lifeless body.
The police concluded it as suicide.
Ryan didn’t believe it.
The bitter days they endured, she wouldn’t leave him.
"Ryan."
Scarlett’s clear voice pulled Ryan out of his memories. His eyes dimmed a bit, his voice deep, "Yeah?"
Scarlett: "There’s something I’ve always been curious about."
Ryan: "What is it?"
Scarlett: "I used to think your good relationship with Julian was because you two are biological brothers, but you mentioned that Mrs. Ford isn’t your biological mother, so you two..."
"Why is our relationship still quite good?"
Ryan continued her sentence.
Scarlett nodded, "Especially with your kind of personality and temper, you strangely listen to Julian."
And obediently too.
Ryan didn’t answer directly but playfully asked, "You’re asking this only concerned about my brother, aren’t you curious about me even a little?"
Scarlett rubbed her nose and answered him with her clear gaze.
Ryan: "..."
It seems he led himself into frustration.
"During the most difficult times with my mom, my brother helped us. At that time, my mom needed surgery due to illness, requiring a large sum of money; it was entirely provided by him. All the family’s expenses during that period were covered by him."
Even later, when Nina passed away, Julian helped Ryan handle the aftermath.
During that time, Ezra Ford wasn’t willing to bring Ryan back to the Ford family.
Ryan wanted to uncover the truth behind his mother’s death, and using the Ford family’s power was the best option, otherwise he couldn’t even afford meals, let alone anything else.
And smart as Julian was, he still took Ryan back to the Ford family even after seeing his intentions.
Ryan: "When my brother helped our family with the medical bills, he was only ten, but he was smart, had a good business mind, and had his own private savings."
Upon hearing that Ryan’s mother Nina was ill, Julian immediately paid the medical expenses using his savings.
Back then, tens of thousands was no small amount.
Scarlett listened with surprise flashing in her eyes, and couldn’t help but wonder: "Did Mrs. Ford know Julian did these things?"
Perhaps due to the fact she was a woman.
Scarlett’s first thought was, if Mrs. Ford knew, her son secretly took out a large sum to treat her husband’s former lover, her heart surely couldn’t be at ease.
Certainly, without knowing the fuller picture, there shouldn’t be any judgment.
Regardless of the facts, Scarlett didn’t have the standing to judge Julian and Freya.
Ryan furrowed his brows, recalled carefully, and said: "I’ve asked my brother about it. He said it was money he earned himself and the Ford family wouldn’t..."
As his thoughts trailed, Ryan’s voice grew quieter, his expression sour.
He suddenly remembered the day Julian was drugged with sleeping pills and had his wrists slit by Freya, was shortly after Julian helped their family.
