Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 117: Went to See Scarlett Shaw Again?
As soon as those words fell, Scarlett Shaw’s legs went stiff, as if shackled to the ground, unable to move.
Her heart was seized in an instant, making it hard to breathe.
"I’ll be at the hospital right away."
Ryan Ford quickly hung up the phone, not even sparing Scarlett Shaw a second thought. He took a long stride to the nearby Cayenne, got in, and drove off at full speed.
Naturally, he didn’t notice Scarlett Shaw’s terribly pale face in the cold wind.
Nor did he see the anxious figure rushing to the street to hail a cab after the Cayenne sped away.
As dusk fell, Ryan Ford arrived at the hospital.
In the ward, Julian Ford stood tall and composed, dressed in a high-end custom-made suit, his expression indifferent and distant. He stood by the bedside.
If it weren’t for the bandage on his forehead, no one would see anything out of the ordinary.
Ryan Ford’s first instinct was to check on Julian Ford’s injury.
But then, he heard low sobbing sounds.
His gaze shifted downward.
Freya Pierce sat by the bedside, her exquisitely made-up beautiful face streaked with tears like pearls, one after another rolling down.
Her well-maintained, wrinkle-free slender fingers tightly gripped Julian Ford’s hand.
The worry and tension in the woman’s expression were apparent, her lips constantly murmuring, "Julian, my Julian, I failed to protect you. I’m sorry..."
However, there wasn’t the slightest ripple on Julian Ford’s face as he was tightly held.
But it was also evident there was no impatience or annoyance.
Julian Ford looked calmly at Freya Pierce, and with his free hand, casually pulled out a couple of tissues, handing them to his mother.
Freya Pierce didn’t take them, continuing to wipe away tears ceaselessly.
Julian Ford casually crumpled the tissues and tossed them into the trash bin.
Josiah Sutton, wearing a white coat, glanced over at the two of them and gently consoled Freya Pierce, "Aunt Pierce, don’t worry, Julian is just fatigued from not having rested well recently, which is why he fainted. All the test results are out, and there’s nothing else wrong. Don’t get too worked up and wear yourself out."
"What’s up with the injury on my brother’s head?"
Ryan Ford’s gaze swept over the bandage on Julian Ford’s forehead, then turned to Josiah Sutton, asking.
Josiah Sutton smiled and said, "He accidentally bumped it when he fainted, but it’s not a big deal; you don’t need to worry."
Ryan Ford breathed a sigh of relief, but the worry in his eyes didn’t diminish.
Josiah Sutton caught his emotions and suddenly thought of something, glancing again at Julian Ford.
Julian Ford remained as impassive as ever, showing no sign of emotion.
Freya Pierce’s tears flowed uncontrollably, her sorrowful demeanor seemed as if she had gone through something exceedingly painful. Josiah Sutton and Ryan Ford looked at her, their eyes filled with the same astonishment and confusion.
Ezra Ford, who was as unfazed as Julian Ford, walked to his wife’s side, patted her shoulder, drew her into his embrace, and said softly:
"Josiah has told you, Julian’s fine. Do you still not trust him?"
"I’m just so scared..." Freya Pierce sobbed, burying her head into Ezra Ford’s chest, "I can’t bear to suffer again the pain of losing Julian."
Ezra Ford patted her shoulder soothingly.
The couple embraced, and on the surface, it seemed deeply affectionate. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Watching from the sidelines, Ryan Ford’s peach blossom eyes carried a veil of dark and cold intent.
Seeing this scene, Josiah Sutton too felt an odd sensation he couldn’t quite describe.
Clearly, Julian Ford stood right there in front of them, perfectly fine, but the words spoken highlighted how important Julian was to them.
And yet, neither Freya Pierce nor Ezra Ford had spared Julian Ford a proper glance.
While at this moment, Julian Ford, who was supposedly the center of attention, appeared more like an observer.
He looked at Freya Pierce, his voice cold and distant:
"That won’t happen, Mom."
As the words fell, he glanced at Josiah Sutton.
Josiah Sutton understood instantly and respectfully said to Ezra Ford, "Mr. Ford, I’m on duty tonight and can stay with Julian. You and Aunt Pierce should go home and rest; it’s getting late."
Ezra Ford glanced at the emotionally unstable Freya Pierce and didn’t insist on staying.
However, as they were leaving, he said to Ryan Ford, "You stay here and keep your brother company."
Ryan Ford: "Okay."
Josiah Sutton followed them out of the ward and saw Ezra Ford and Freya Pierce off.
A minute after the door closed, Julian Ford’s gaze fell on Ryan Ford, and he said blandly, "It’s New Year’s Eve, and you didn’t come home. Where did you go?"
Upon hearing this, Ryan Ford paused, then smiled and said, "Brother, you know me. I’m always out having fun, never settling down. Besides, it makes no difference whether I come home or not."
"Did you go to see Scarlett Shaw again?"
"..."
Easily seen through by Julian Ford, Ryan Ford looked embarrassed but not annoyed.
He pursed his lips, stubbornly saying, "I was trying to find out the whereabouts of that woman, Serena Ford."
"Considering what she did, abandoning her husband and daughter, hiding for so many years without caring for her daughter, do you really expect Scarlett Shaw, who can’t even clear her own debts, to know anything?"
Julian Ford’s voice was as cold as ice, and Ryan Ford could hear the significant displeasure in it.
He wasn’t sure if it was his imagination.
Ryan Ford suddenly had the feeling that his brother seemed to be speaking in defense of Scarlett Shaw.
But Ryan didn’t think too much of it; instead, he changed the topic and said, "Brother, I noticed earlier that your mom seemed a bit off again. How can she say she’s afraid of losing you when she’s the one who’s always hurt you?"
He remembered well when Freya Pierce had been hospitalized for poor mental health and had injured Julian Ford with a knife.
"Also, are you sure you fainted just from exhaustion, or does it have something to do with her?"
Ryan Ford recalled an incident from many years ago, still shaken at the thought.
Ryan Ford’s mother passed away early, but for Ryan, she gave him the utmost love she could offer.
So, what Ryan Ford could never comprehend was—
As Julian Ford’s mother, how could Freya Pierce deceive her only biological son into eating food laced with a significant amount of sleeping pills, place him in a bathtub, and slit his wrists, watching as her son’s life ebbed away?
And at that time, Julian Ford was only ten years old.
If Ryan Ford hadn’t sneaked into the Ford family’s home that day and found Julian Ford lying unconscious in a pool of blood, promptly calling for an ambulance—
Julian Ford’s life would have been taken by Freya Pierce’s own hands.
"It has nothing to do with her."
Julian Ford’s cool voice disrupted Ryan Ford’s reminiscence, speaking blandly:
"There’s no need for you to stay here; it’s New Year’s Eve. Go home and be with them."
Ryan Ford hesitated for a moment, knowing Julian Ford preferred to handle things alone. He didn’t insist on staying, but after a few words of concern, he left.
Josiah Sutton re-entered the ward five minutes after Ryan Ford left.
The warm and gentle façade he showed earlier in front of Freya Pierce and Ezra Ford was gone. Now, Josiah Sutton’s brows were tightly knitted, his face serious, without a trace of a smile.
