Out of Control: Into Your Everything-Chapter 100: Unlucky in Love
Although the end result is the same.
The process was different, and naturally the mood was different too.
On the flight back home, some people slept, some binge-watched shows, and some were angry.
And then there was a hapless fool, endlessly working overtime, overtime, overtime.
Aaron Carson had always been confident in his work efficiency, but he never imagined that what he used to consider his limit was far from it.
In just a dozen hours, he was typing away, dismantling electrical wires, sparked with fire and lightning, all the while revising over twenty proposals, finally sending them to Julian Ford with a dizzy head.
Julian Ford didn’t even bother to click open.
If Aaron couldn’t figure out that his boss was sending so many proposals just to torture him, then all these years had been for nothing.
Aaron was quite puzzled.
He guessed that Julian’s bad mood was likely because of Scarlett Shaw.
But what did the boss’s dislike for Scarlett have to do with him?
The boss rejected Scarlett then pushed her out in the cold air; Scarlett wasn’t a masochist, it wasn’t like she’d keep approaching seeking discomfort.
"President Ford."
Despite his grumblings, Aaron still played the sycophant.
After cautiously trying to guess Julian’s thoughts, he asked, "How about I upgrade Scarlett to a better seat, let her sit over here?"
Julian glanced at him, "You missed her?"
Aaron: "..."
Julian: "I heard you brought your girlfriend home some time ago."
Aaron: "..."
Julian’s lips curled into a cryptic smile, with a calm and unnerving gaze, "Was it the day you ran into Scarlett at the supermarket?"
Aaron: "..."
After saying this, Julian withdrew his gaze, emotions coldly continuing with his matters.
Aaron has never been slow-witted.
The boss’s probing questions made the implication crystal clear—
That hidden deal between him and Scarlett, heaven knows when, had already been exposed under Julian’s watchful eyes.
The only thing vibrating wildly in Aaron’s mind was the phrase:
Regret nothing from the start.
Today, Julian only slightly tested the waters by making him revise proposals; who knows, after returning home, he might end up being sent to Thailand to change his gender—a possibility not entirely out of the question.
If you provoke Julian, it’s undoubtedly hitting a brick wall, the boss’s ruthlessness in dealing with those he dislikes in business is not something Aaron hasn’t witnessed, forcing people into dead ends more than a few times.
Moreover, this time he committed Julian’s greatest taboo—lying.
He’s doomed.
The sky is falling.
The ’sneaky affair’ exposure has turned Aaron, a responsible and proactive man, first thought naturally to throw Scarlett under the bus.
He fished out his phone, about to inform Scarlett and make sure she takes all the blame on herself to clear him, when Julian’s voice casually chimed in:
"Thinking of notifying her?"
Aaron’s fingers froze, "President Ford, how dare I?"
Julian: "Explain the entire situation honestly."
So Aaron recounted the time he ran into Ryan Ford at the hospital, to the agreement he reached with Scarlett Shaw, all the way to the establishment of their revolutionary friendship.
Of course, the central theme was that he would absolutely not take the fall.
It was all Scarlett’s fault!
However, out of respect for personal privacy, Aaron did not mention helping Scarlett investigate Serena Ford.
Julian’s expression remained unchanged after hearing it, what Aaron shared aligned mostly with what Julian had deduced, only filling in some detailed pieces of the puzzle.
"So Scarlett Shaw asked you to be her ’boyfriend’ to keep away from Ryan?"
The words boyfriend said from Julian’s mouth were truly shocking.
Aaron’s lips quivered, "Yes."
Julian’s expression was calm, revealing no emotion.
Yet the chill radiating from him was noticeably less than before.
Aaron was baffled but sensed the boss’s improved mood, hesitated, and still said:
"President Ford, actually Scarlett does care about you."
Julian, initially intending to dismiss Aaron, paused at the comment and glanced at him.
Indicating he wanted him to continue.
"The time she caught a cold, I saw her in the company the previous day, her face looked particularly pale, ghostly white, her eyes were red, although she didn’t say anything, you could feel she was quite hurt."
Aaron observed Julian’s expression as he spoke.
Seeing no anger from the boss, he went on:
"Last night, when I saw her getting out of the car, she was alone on the roadside, tears kept falling, clearly afraid of the cold but standing still, shivering nonstop, I suppose she was too upset to remember she feared the cold. If it wasn’t..."
Aaron hesitated mid-sentence.
Julian coldly glanced at him, "Holding back info from me?"
Not at all.
Aaron was just unsure whether sharing this would be good or bad.
But half-told, clearly no point in retracting, he deliberated for wording and ventured, "If she didn’t really like him, no girl would repeatedly face heartbreak knowing there’s no future with such courage."
The word courage came out stuttered.
Being impromptu thought.
Originally intending to use masochism but feared angering Julian, so changed it.
"Scarlett seems carefree, even if the previous day was like Judgment Day, the next morning she can smile again, but that’s also her unique trait, isn’t it."
After Aaron said this, Julian paused slightly, looked at him, "You find her unique?"
Aaron kept quiet.
Thinking that the one who found Scarlett unique wasn’t it the boss himself.
Else why constantly dragging her by his side.
Aaron: "I just think Scarlett really... well, surprising. I had merely overheard about her father bankruptcy and death, her mother’s disappearance, and she could still persist..."
"Aaron."
Julian interrupted.
Aaron was stunned, "President Ford?"
Did he say anything wrong?
Julian: "You can shut up now."
Aaron: "..."
The revelation of the fake relationship with Scarlett was a lesson for Aaron, he firmly decided to stand by Julian, felt no need to hint anything to Scarlett.
The first few days back in Capitoline, out of fear of the boss, Aaron was always apprehensive.
But half a month passed without Julian bringing it up again as an issue.
Aaron naturally assumed the matter had passed.
Meanwhile, Scarlett wouldn’t think of random stuff either.
In this period, Scarlett and Julian had no interactions whatsoever.
Her uncontrollable confession that night and his indifference kept reminding her she couldn’t stir any storms in Julian’s world.
The storm she’d experienced alone was something Scarlett could only accept.
Regardless of love or dislike, life goes on.
Unrequited love is common, mutual love with devotion is rare, she had no resentment over this.
Nothing but recalling Julian, feeling sharp sorrow and bitter, occasionally reminiscing over past moments belonging to them.
Scarlett heard news of Julian again through Skyler Miller, that Walsh Bank and Veridian’s collaboration changed to short-term.
The previous contract was void, replaced by a bet agreement.
She soon saw the reason in Capitoline’s finance blog—a news of Julian Ford and The Walsh Group’s broken engagement.
The termination was initiated by The Walsh Group.
Skyler Miller also saw the news, unexpectedly commented, "Isn’t our President Ford’s love fortune bad, always breaking up or terminated by the other side, could he have an ugly secret ailment?"
