Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 381 - 362: Men and Marriage
Sienna thought, would choosing someone ugly be safer?
Felix Raines is ugly enough, right? Indeed, he hasn’t had problems with women, but with such a bad temper, what use is that?
Thinking of Felix Raines, Sienna naturally thought of the gentle and soft-spoken Quentin Thorne.
The ugly and violent Felix Raines versus the handsome and unreliable yet refreshing Quentin Thorne, who to choose?
Given the choice, wouldn’t any woman pick Quentin Thorne?
Marriage is a life experience measured in seconds and minutes, not a proposition about whether it’s safe in the long term or whether the relationship is stable.
Choosing a handsome, agreeable man, even if he might cheat and break the marriage, is better than choosing someone unattractive and disagreeable, being stuck in a frustrating safety all life long.
But this is something Melinda Linton could never understand, so Sienna didn’t say much more.
After a while, Simon Forrester returned. He opened the dinner he had brought with him, which included both dry rice and nutritious porridge.
Taking the nutritious porridge he handed over, Sienna smiled and said, "Must have taken some time to make all this? Actually, just buying some from outside would have been okay."
"Homemade is healthier."
Sienna picked up the spoon, sat back beside the hospital bed, and fed the porridge to Melinda Linton, spoonful by spoonful. Once done, she returned to the table to eat with Simon Forrester.
After dinner, Simon Forrester went to the water room to sterilize the lunch boxes, and Sienna helped Melinda Linton clean up a bit and chatted with her for a while.
Due likely to the medication, Melinda Linton wanted to sleep before 8 PM.
Sienna tucked her in and then called Simon Forrester outside.
"My mom is already awake, I’ll take care of her tonight, you can go home and rest?" she suggested.
Simon Forrester knew that with Melinda Linton awake, it was indeed inappropriate for him as a man to stay overnight in the hospital room, but he worried about Sienna being too tired alone: "You barely slept last night, and haven’t rested today. How about hiring a night nurse so you can get some proper sleep?"
With Melinda Linton still on an IV drip, Sienna indeed had to wake up every few hours at night to check if it was finished, often having to wake up three or four times in a night.
Realizing she wouldn’t make it without sleep, she agreed to Simon Forrester’s suggestion.
After the nurse arrived and Simon Forrester gave some instructions, he left the hospital. However, he didn’t go home but booked a room in the hotel closest to the hospital, so he could arrive immediately if Sienna needed him at night.
He rested at the hotel that night, and before dawn the next day, he went home to buy groceries and make breakfast, delivering it to the hospital at 8 AM sharp for Sienna and Melinda Linton. He then returned around 10 AM to prepare lunch to bring over and went back in the evening to prepare dinner.
A week passed in this manner until it was almost time for Melinda Linton to be discharged.
The day before discharge, Sienna discussed with Simon Forrester: "My mom’s place isn’t safe now, I want her to stay at our place temporarily."
Simon Forrester was surprised: "I was thinking the same thing."
"Really?" Sienna smiled, "Then let’s decide on this."
Simon Forrester asked, "What about your sister? Why hasn’t she shown up?"
Sienna leaned against the wall outside the hospital room, arms crossed, glanced back at Melinda Linton inside, and said lightly, "Jenna Raines and I have fallen out, I won’t look after her anymore."
That Jenna Raines would fall out with Sienna at such a time showed her significant issues, so Simon Forrester, understanding, asked no more.
.
On the last day of January, Brimfield saw heavy snow, and Melinda Linton was discharged. Sienna and Simon Forrester took her to their apartment.
The guest room had already been tidied up, and after settling Melinda Linton, Sienna had Rochelle Linwood come over to take care of her for half a day while she and Simon Forrester went back to pack up Melinda Linton’s personal belongings from her previous apartment.
Upon entering, they found the house quite messy; Jenna Raines had lived there the past week.
Simon Forrester asked, "What should we do with the house? Take it back?"
Sienna didn’t answer immediately, and after pondering for a while, said, "No need for now, we’ll decide later."
After all, they shared the same mother; she hadn’t planned to completely cut Jenna Raines off.
.
Having packed some of Melinda Linton’s things, the couple quickly returned to the apartment.
Once back, Simon Forrester took charge of cooking, while Rochelle Linwood helped Sienna organize Melinda Linton’s belongings. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Sienna seemed troubled, not saying much, and Rochelle didn’t pester her. Midway through packing, Sienna suddenly said, "Rochelle, my mom’s very ill this time. I’ll need to take care of her when she goes back to Z City, so I can’t start a branch office, so..."
Rochelle Linwood held her arm: "Lawyer Thornton, I understand. It’s okay, Auntie’s health is more important."
Sienna pursed her lips, holding Rochelle’s hand, and said, "You can’t be a lawyer’s assistant forever. Since you have your license, start taking on some cases. When the time is right, I’ll recommend to Rhonda and Aurora that you be promoted to equity partner."
"Thank you, Lawyer Thornton. I’ll do my best," Rochelle Linwood said, her eyes welling up. "If you need me, I’m always here for you."
"Okay," Sienna felt a wave of emotion and leaned forward to hug Rochelle.
.
Sienna kept Rochelle Linwood for dinner, and after seeing her off, she helped Melinda Linton clean up, tidied up the house, and took a shower. It was already quite late.
Luckily, Simon Forrester had washed and dried her dirty clothes while she was showering, or she would have been even later.
Clean and fragrant in her pajamas, she nestled into the soft and familiar bed, warmed by Simon Forrester’s strong, hot embrace.
Outside, the snow was falling heavily, but inside, it was as warm as summer.
They were both sweating.
Simon Forrester propped his elbow beside Sienna’s ear, looked down at her, recalling her earlier absentmindedness, kissed the tip of her nose, then lay back and pulled her into his embrace.
"Have you been too tired lately?" he asked.
She shook her head, silent for a while. Then, with a thick nasal tone, she said, "There’s something I want to tell you."
"Hmm?"
Her nasal tone deepened: "Can we temporarily separate for a while?"
He was stunned, his hand on her shoulder stopping, and after a long pause, he asked, distraught, "What do you mean by ’temporarily separate for a while’?"
She suddenly started to sob, covering her face with her hands.
These past days had been too stifling, so much that she could barely bring herself to cry out loud.
Strong as she was, she rarely cried in front of Simon Forrester. Panicking, he hurriedly grabbed some tissues to wipe her tears.
