Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 372 - 353: Saving the Nation by Indirect Means
It was late January, the first snow of the year had come a bit late.
The leaves of the two ginkgo trees at the entrance of the old house were all gone, leaving only bare, gray branches.
Sienna Thornton parked the car by the gate and knocked on the door to enter.
Walking through the inner courtyard, she could see Old Master Forrester from a distance, sitting in the living room enjoying tea and reading. Sienna Thornton clutched the gift bag in her hand and quickly walked in, "Grandpa, I’m here." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Old Master Forrester stood up hurriedly upon hearing her, smiling as he pulled Sienna onto the sofa to sit.
The old man poured tea for Sienna and also brought out court desserts for her to eat, smiling contentedly as they drank tea and ate sweets together.
Knowing well that the old man didn’t just call her over to have sweets, after a few pleasantries, Sienna asked directly, "Grandpa, did you have something to discuss today?"
The old man, who had been all smiles, suddenly toned it down, looking at Sienna with helplessness in his eyes: "Jules mentioned to me a few days ago that he wanted to take over The Forresters completely after the New Year, and he also wants to revoke his father’s and Nolan Kramer’s executive management authority."
Sienna didn’t respond, just smiled at the old man.
The old man continued: "Jules has always been engaged in architectural work and studied architectural design. Now letting him, someone without a bit of industrial manufacturing or business management experience, take over the entire Forrester Group... I’m afraid it’s not appropriate."
As the old man spoke, he shook his head repeatedly: "You’ve seen last year’s financial report, right? Nolan’s management is still quite skillful, and with you overseeing the legal department, last year the entire group was smooth sailing and prosperous. If Jules does this now, I’m afraid the group’s management will fall into trouble again!"
The old man said all this, merely to express—Simon Forrester wants to reclaim the management rights of the group because Nolan Kramer advocated terminating the contract with Sienna Thornton’s law firm, mirroring a choice of beauty over power.
Sienna Thornton understood this, and although she knew Simon Forrester indeed wanted to protect her position as the group’s Chief Legal Officer, Simon had indeed decided beforehand to switch careers.
She didn’t know if Simon had explained this to Old Master Forrester, thus she slightly mentioned: "Grandpa, this is the case, Simon mentioned last September he wished to change careers, even when we went to Europe, he had already found a replacement for his position as director of the design office."
The old man nodded: "I know, I’m happy he’s changing careers and willing to come back to take over the group, but kicking out two executives all at once, that would be touching the foundation!"
Sienna didn’t say much on this matter, sighing quietly: "Grandpa, I will talk to him about this, don’t worry."
The old man was satisfied with this, a smile returned to his face.
"Thornton, I know you’re a smart person, leaving the group in your hands, this old man is at ease. Everything needs to be gradual, don’t rush. Jules has been used to being willful, acting on impulse, you should advise him more often, telling him not to always go against Nolan. No matter how much power Nolan has, he’s ultimately working for the group, the money made, doesn’t it end up being yours in the end?"
Sienna smiled along, thinking: The money Forrester Group makes has nothing to do with her. Was the old man forgetting she’s a lawyer?
.
The old man lastly brought up Jane Sinclair’s accidental death, without blaming Sienna in the least, just said it was Jane’s fate and couldn’t blame others. Even if that day she hadn’t argued with Sienna and then had an accident, her bad habit of staying in a heated car for long periods, she was bound to meet with mishap eventually.
This understanding and consolation slightly improved Sienna’s mood.
After leaving the old house, she didn’t go to The Forresters to find Nolan Kramer nor to the law firm, she directly went home, planning to discuss with Simon Forrester in the evening and negotiate with Nolan the next day.
It was still early when she got out of the car, just past ten o’clock, thinking there was nothing to do going home so early, she decided to go to a fresh food supermarket to buy some ingredients, planning to make lunch and deliver it to Simon at the design office.
She bought ingredients for making curry beef brisket rice, along with okra and various vegetables, and busied herself for over an hour at home, finally making lunch for herself and Simon.
When leaving, she messaged Simon, saying she would bring him lunch and asked him to wait in the office for her.
Simon replied with a "Waiting for you (kiss)."
She drove the red Maserati Ghibli that Sylvia Langley bought for her to SY, as the car drove into the courtyard of the design office, seeing the familiar scenery reminded her she hadn’t been there in over a year.
In fact, she hadn’t been there many times, and bringing lunch to Simon was something she was doing for the first time.
.
On the third floor, Sienna headed straight for Simon’s office. No one was there, so she turned towards the meeting room across the hall.
Simon was inside holding a meeting.
He wore a navy blue double-breasted British-style suit, white French shirt, and a tie in deep space grey, a shade darker than the suit.
The designers were explaining the project, he listened expressionlessly, occasionally looking at the notebook in front of him, occasionally at the projected content.
Before outsiders, he always maintained a stern, ascetic appearance. Just like over two years ago when she first met him at this design office.
Who would have thought he was so gentle and caring in private, sometimes even a bit childishly playful.
Just this morning, while she was tying his tie, he caught her off guard and managed a sneak attack, and afterward, was as pleased as a child who had snatched a toy.
Sienna suddenly felt her heart skip a beat, just wanting to retreat back to Simon’s office to wait, when she saw him get up from his seat and stride toward the door.
Sienna stood up straight, a smile spreading across her face.
Simon opened the door and came out, immediately holding her hand, then glanced at the four-tier lunch box in her hand: "It’ll be about twenty more minutes, you can rest in my office first, we’ll eat together shortly."
Sienna softly responded: "Okay."
He then raised his hand to stroke the back of her head, leaning down to give her a kiss on the cheek: "Go on."
Behind them, quiet murmurs began from the meeting room: "Two years and the old man still hasn’t replaced her, huh..."
"After what happened with Jane Sinclair, the boss is still with her?"
Harrison Rowe, sitting next to the main seat, gave a loud cough, solemnly saying: "What nonsense are you talking about? Change what? Lawyer Thornton is already married to the boss, they just haven’t held the wedding yet! If you keep spewing nonsense, are you looking to lose your year-end bonus?"
Everyone was shocked, never expecting that a female lawyer could firmly bind their handsome, talented, and wealthy Director Forrester.
.
Sienna waited in the office for a while before the meeting across the hall adjourned.
Simon was the first to come out, notebook in hand, striding into the office, turning to close the transparent floor-to-ceiling glass door, also drawing the blinds.
Immediately, the entire office fell into a state impermeable to prying eyes.
