Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 366 - 347: A Satisfied Young Mr. Ford
Afterwards, Sienna Thornton angrily pushed Simon Forrester away and protested, "So you were pretending to be asleep?!"
"No, I was just secretly observing when The Lion King would wake up."
Sienna, who once claimed to be the king of the jungle, a lion, because Simon wouldn’t let her eat meat: "..."
Seeing him joke around, Sienna knew he was relaxed, which lightened her mood as well. She kicked him under the blanket and said, "I’m starving, get up and cook for me."
Simon immediately got up, grabbed the pants and T-shirt thrown on the bench at the foot of the bed, and put them on. "What do you want to eat?"
Sienna, now well-rested and not sleep-deprived, had her bodily functions restored and started craving food. She seriously thought about it for a while and said, "I want hot pot!"
Simon glanced at the decorative clock on the table. "It’s past eleven, and many of the restaurants downstairs might be closed."
"Let’s go to The Everbright District in Kenway!"
"Where?"
"The restaurant where we first had lamb spine hot pot together, remember?"
Simon suddenly felt a pang in his stomach.
How could he forget?
That time, after eating lamb spine hot pot with Sienna, he had a severe relapse of his long-dormant stomach ailment, accompanied by a high fever that drained his energy, taking days to recover.
So when Sienna mentioned that event and restaurant, he felt a physiological stomachache.
But seeing her excitement, he couldn’t bear to dampen it, and despite his contracting stomach, he cheerfully said, "Sure! Get dressed, let’s head out!"
"Yay! I can have lamb spine hot pot!" Sienna joyfully jumped to the foot of the bed, landing on Simon’s back while he sat on the bench. "Carry me to the wardrobe..."
Simon got up, carrying Sienna on his back. "Alright!"
Sienna giggled on his back, twisting his ear as a steering wheel: "Take off!"
The two dressed in sportswear, donning long puffer coats, wrapping themselves snugly because, in Brimfield at this time, the temperature was just around 0 degrees at dawn, very cold.
The car drove out of the garage, merging onto the main road in the early morning.
There weren’t many people on the road, Simon driving towards the old town, with a smile saying, "It’s been a long time since we went there, I almost forgot the way, can you set up the navigation?"
"Okay!" Sienna leaned over, setting the destination on the central control touchscreen, "It’s been over two years since we last went... wow, we’ve known each other for so long!"
"Yeah. Time flies." Simon also sighed.
The late-night radio played a pop song, Simon didn’t know the name of the song but recalled that two years ago, when he and Sienna went to Kenway for lamb spine, Sienna heard a song on the radio and her eyes turned red.
Afterwards, he wanted to find that song but realized that with his poor musical sense, he couldn’t remember the lyrics at all, so the search for the song was eventually dropped.
As the scene replayed in his mind, he instinctively turned to look at Sienna, seeing her looking normal, with a smile, seemingly in good spirits, so he asked, "Last time we went for lamb spine at night, in the car, you heard a song and cried, remember what song that was?"
"Hmm?" Sienna thought for a moment, "I don’t remember crying..."
Then, with a helpless smile, she said, "But if I did cry while listening to music, it was probably Finn Hughes’ ’A Prose Poem Written by Father’."
She opened her phone, searched for the song on QQ Music, then connected her phone to the car’s Bluetooth, and the strong folk guitar accompaniment soon flowed through the car speakers.
"These are the words in my father’s diary, the prose poem left by his youth... decades later I watched and couldn’t stop crying, but my father has grown old, like an old newspaper..."
At first listen, the melody and lyrics weren’t particularly sad, but as the chorus broke in, even Simon felt a tightness in his chest, and his throat felt choked.
"Alright, alright," he pretended to be unaffected, "it’s not that great, let’s not listen to it."
Sienna chuckled softly and exited QQ Music.
Seeing her in good spirits, without any signs of red eyes, Simon pondered for a moment and asked, "Do you still want to find your biological father now?"
"Just let fate decide, I’ve come to terms with it."
Simon heaved a light sigh and said nothing more.
It was just as well she wasn’t dwelling on it because Quentin Thorne might not be able to acknowledge her so soon.
As long as Nina Sinclair’s case wasn’t resolved, the Sinclair Family would still consider Sienna a suspect, even though the police had confirmed she was not. But the Sinclair Family wouldn’t think so.
In such a sensitive time, if people found out Quentin Thorne was Sienna’s father, and that investigating detective Seth Sutton was the boyfriend of Sienna’s half-sister, the public opinion could spiral out of control.
Simon could only hope the case would conclude soon.
.
Sienna now knew Simon couldn’t handle spicy food, so she considerately ordered a divided hot pot, half spicy, half mushroom broth.
She devoured the spicy lamb spine, while Simon stuck to blanched vegetables, occasionally boiling beef and oysters to eat.
This restaurant’s oysters were equally excellent, fresh and large, very much to Simon’s taste. Sienna counted, and he ate at least twenty that night.
Oysters, although nourishing, are still shellfish that spoil easily, so Sienna worried he might have stomach issues at night and advised, "That’s probably enough, don’t eat too many oysters."
Simon lifted his gaze. "Then you have some? There are ten left."
"Okay."
Simon blanched the remaining ten oysters and served them to Sienna’s bowl.
Sienna, never picky about food and having been hungry for two or three days, had a big appetite, and the ten oysters disappeared in no time.
Watching her eat with relish, Simon was pleased.
If she could eat well, it meant her mood and emotions were in a good state. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
As long as she ate, drank, and slept well, he had no regrets.
.
Having eaten well and slept well, Sienna appeared on time at the law firm early the next day. Aurora Buckley and Rochelle Linwood quickly approached her with concern, but she was eager to find Rhonda Wagner.
After a while, Rhonda arrived, and Sienna called in Aurora and Rochelle, the four gathering in a small meeting room.
Hearing that the police were now inclined to rule Nina Sinclair’s death as accidental, Sienna naturally asked Rhonda to show her the evidence they later found.
Watching the dash cam footage from vehicles registered in distant cities, not even near Brimfield, Sienna was pleasantly surprised but also incredulous: "This evidence, no ordinary lawyer could obtain it. Who provided it?"
Rhonda looked at her, hesitating whether to disclose the information.
Even though Quentin Thorne had instructed him not to let Sienna know about these matters, Rhonda, being Sienna’s partner, felt a moral obligation and in their always honest collaboration, didn’t want to hide it from her.
