Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 259 - 256: Surrogacy Agreement
"My neighbor, an uncle over fifty, looks a bit like Sienna Thornton. Could he be Sienna’s dad?"
"I think my boss looks like Sienna Thornton too, also with the surname Thornton, nearly sixty. Could he be Sienna’s dad?"
...
Sienna Thornton was checking comments under her own post about finding her father, seeing enthusiastic netizens sending her various candid photos of middle-aged men via private messages. Just as she was about to reply, the office door was suddenly knocked.
While typing, she softly said, "Come in~"
Rochelle Linwood opened the door and came in: "Lawyer Thornton, there’s a ’surrogacy dispute’ case specifically requesting you, will you take it?"
Sienna Thornton, with an emotionless face, looked at the computer screen, her fingers flying over the keyboard, replied: "Recommend Lawyer Buckley to the client."
"Alright."
Rochelle Linwood closed the door. After Sienna Thornton replied to all the private messages, she sighed and closed her laptop.
Ever since she appeared on "Lawyer Talk," the law firm indeed had cases coming in every day, but most of them specifically requested her and involved family and marriage issues in civil cases, just like the one Rochelle mentioned, a surrogacy dispute...
This kind of agreement is not legally protected, and now having to go to court, just thinking about it gave Sienna Thornton a headache. She had never handled such a case before; it would be best to pass it to Aurora Buckley, who specialized in civil cases.
"Constantly handling these trivial cases is not a solution, what should I do?"
Sienna Thornton placed her hands on the armrests of her office chair, kicked off her classic Jimmy Choo shoes, and with bare feet, sank deeply into the chair. She tilted her head, staring into space, trying to figure out how to secure more cases that could quickly help the firm grow.
"Knock, knock," someone else was knocking on the door.
Sienna Thornton: "Come in."
Aurora Buckley’s cute round face peeked in from the half-open door: "Lawyer Thornton, I’ve met with the client from the ’surrogacy case,’ but they insist on having you. Will you take it? If not, should I brush them off?"
"..." Sienna Thornton slipped her feet into her stilettos, pressed her hands on the armrests, sat up straight, rubbed her temples for a while, picked up her business folder, and stood up helplessly, "Alright, take it! Now’s not the time to be headstrong."
Aurora Buckley smiled and followed her out of the office: "I’ll be your assistant. If you get busy with other cases, I can handle this one then."
Sienna Thornton patted her shoulder appreciatively and rubbed her cheek playfully against her shoulder: "Aurora, you’re so understanding!"
-
After talking with the client about the case, Rochelle Linwood escorted the emotionally charged client out, leaving Sienna Thornton and Aurora Buckley still sitting in the meeting room.
Aurora Buckley said: "I think it’s really necessary to hold a legal lecture targeted at university students. I really don’t know what these girls are thinking, helping others with surrogacy for ten thousand dollars, and even doing it the natural way. Now they can’t get the money, and they’ve been used for nothing; even if they sue the other party, the court may not stand with them."
Sienna Thornton looked serious: "She can only claim ’damages for infringement,’ but the problem is, there’s no way to prove that the man really had a relationship with her. It’s been more than half a month since they last had relations, and it was done in the man’s private estate, making evidence collection difficult."
"What do we do now?"
Sienna Thornton was twirling a pen in her hand, lowered her eyes to look at the notes in her notebook, considered for a moment, and said: "Let’s meet that man first, scare him a bit; maybe seeing a lawyer involved, he’d be willing to settle."
Aurora Buckley agreed: "Let’s go together."
.
After lunch, Sienna Thornton and Aurora Buckley headed straight to a private winery in the outskirts of Brimfield.
The winery, styled like a French castle, stood in a large green field reminiscent of golf courses.
The car stopped at the security gate, and the guard came over to knock on the car window: "Who are you looking for?"
Sienna Thornton, without removing her sunglasses, took out her attorney ID and flashed it in front of the guard: "I’m Lawyer Thornton, here for an infringement case, need to talk with your President Lynn."
Upon hearing it was a lawyer, the guard quickly jogged back to the booth to report.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Aurora Buckley looked at the opulent and beautiful winery, shaking her head: "With so much money, would they really be sued for ten thousand dollars? Ten thousand might just be the cost of a glass of wine for them."
In this regard, Sienna Thornton agreed. These wineries hidden in mountains and forests usually belong to very wealthy individuals. With such wealth, suing a college student for ten thousand dollars usually has other reasons behind it.
Soon, the gate opened, and Sienna Thornton drove directly to the entrance of the winery, getting out together with Aurora Buckley.
The double doors of the winery opened one side, Aurora Buckley climbed a few steps, curled her finger, and knocked twice.
"Come in!" A youthful yet vigorous male voice came from inside, with a hint of mocking laughter.
Aurora Buckley turned to look at Sienna Thornton, who nodded and climbed the steps as well.
They entered the villa, where several young men, around the same age as Simon Forrester, were sitting on vintage-style English sofas, enjoying wine and smoking cigars.
Sitting at the head, a man with single-eyelids and slicked-back greasy hair stood up, smiling wickedly: "Oh! Two lovely lawyers! Do come in, come in!"
As he spoke, those small beady eyes lingered shamelessly on the visibly prettier face of Sienna Thornton.
Sienna Thornton shuddered internally, took the lawyer’s letter from Aurora Buckley, and with her briefcase in hand, took a few steps forward, handing the letter to the single-eyed man.
The man didn’t take it, his gaze lightly landing on the letter and staying there for no more than a second before looking back at Sienna Thornton, smiling slyly: "Miss Lawyer, what on earth did I do? You’ve got to tell me, giving me such a thing, what if I can’t read?"
He finished, feeling immensely proud as he looked towards his small group of friends. The other men, sitting and drinking, laughed uproariously at the situation.
"Mr. Lynn, would you like me to say it?"
"Go on, be bold about it!" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Sienna Thornton smiled, slowly said: "Mr. Lynn, in January 2019, through a surrogacy agency, you signed a surrogacy agreement with my client. It was agreed that if my client conceives a healthy child naturally for you, you would pay a surrogacy fee of ten thousand dollars in one go. If either party, for any reason, could not continue after attempting natural conception, compensation of ten thousand dollars was required. Now, due to your reason, the agreement must be terminated. According to the agreement, you should pay my client a compensation of ten thousand dollars!"
While she stated the case, the man kept a lecherous gaze on her, making it unbearable for Aurora Buckley, who several times tried to shield Sienna Thornton, only to be rudely pushed aside by the man.
