Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 253 - 250: Reproductive Rights (Third Update)
The meeting tonight wasn’t very complicated. The six lawyers scheduled to participate in next week’s recording got their scripts and drew lots to see if they’d be on the defendant’s side or the plaintiff’s side.
Once the groups were divided and scripts distributed, each group went off to discuss defense strategies.
Sienna Thornton drew the defendant’s side, teaming up with two young lawyers who had studied abroad to form the defense team. The three of them discussed their angles for defense, decided on the seating arrangement for the lawyers, and scheduled a private rehearsal for next Friday night. Then, they all headed home to prepare their arguments individually.
When Sienna Thornton got home, it was almost eleven o’clock.
A dim floor lamp was lit in the living room, and Simon Forrester’s car keys were in the key bowl on the foyer cabinet.
Sienna changed into her slippers, put down her bag, and first went to the kitchen to find the bird’s nest. She looked for a long time but couldn’t find it, so she followed the light to the study.
Simon was sitting in front of the computer, presumably reviewing project plans again.
Sienna leaned against the door frame, watching him for a moment, and asked, "Wasn’t there some bird’s nest in the kitchen before? Where did you put it?"
Upon hearing her voice, Simon looked toward the doorway and smiled, "You’re back? Why so late?"
As he spoke, he stood up and walked over, "What do you need the bird’s nest for? Do you want some?"
He wrapped his arm around Sienna and walked out with her. Sienna patted the back of his hand on her shoulder, flattering him, "I heard that bird’s nest in milk is good for men, boosts yang energy, so I wanted to make some for you!"
Simon chuckled, heading to the laundry room, where he searched for a while and finally found a beautifully packaged bundle of bird’s nest. "Here it is. I brought some dried goods back from the old house during the New Year. There was no room in the kitchen, so I stored it in the laundry room’s cabinet."
Sienna stepped forward to take it, smiling, "I thought so, made me search for half a day for nothing. You go on with your work; I’ll handle this."
With that, she took the box of bird’s nest and went into the kitchen.
Simon had just turned to head back to the study when he heard her call from the kitchen, "Don’t drink milk tonight! The bird’s nest will have milk in it soon."
Simon chuckled, "Bird’s nest needs to be soaked; it takes at least half a day to stew. I’ll have it for breakfast tomorrow morning."
With that, he returned to the study.

In the end, Sienna didn’t make bird’s nest for Simon as a late-night snack.
She soaked the bird’s nest in a small bowl and then went to take a shower. Afterward, she noticed Simon was still busy in the study, so she heated a cup of milk for him and brought it in.
"Let’s have bird’s nest with milk for breakfast tomorrow morning," she said, placing the milk next to Simon and then turned to fetch a few thick law reference books from the bookshelf. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Simon was engrossed in his work and didn’t chat with her at first. Once he was done, he glanced at her and saw she was sitting cross-legged on the sofa, pen in hand, making notes in the hefty reference books and typing on her laptop.
Simon shut off the computer and went to sit next to her, asking, "Preparing your arguments for the show?"
"Yes." Sienna tucked the pen behind her ear, focused on the computer screen, her hands tapping furiously on the keyboard, "This time, it’s a case related to ’reproductive rights.’ I don’t usually deal with such cases, so I need to organize the relevant legal provisions and find a direction."
Simon picked up the script she had set aside and asked, "Why didn’t you tell the production team you’re more skilled in foreign-related cases so they might give you those kinds of cases?"
"This show has a bit of a public interest vibe, focusing on cases closely related to everyday life like marriage and relationships, workplace issues, housing problems, consumer fraud, and so on. Foreign-related cases lack that life aspect, probably wouldn’t work."
Sienna said all of this, and Simon keenly caught one of the types mentioned, and mischievously said, "There’s also housing disputes?"
Sienna glanced at him, pursed her lips speechlessly, "Renting or buying homes!" Then she turned her attention back to the computer screen.
Simon laughed to himself, stretched out on the other end of the sofa, and seriously studied the script, staying silent for a long time.
Until Sienna needed the script, she reached for it but got no response, so she turned to look at him, "What are you reading so seriously? Give me the script; I need it."
Simon put down the booklet, sucked in a breath through his teeth, and looked at her uncertainly, "For this case, are you on the plaintiff’s side or the defendant’s side?"
"Defendant’s side." Sienna removed the laptop, crawled over to him, and took the script back.
Simon didn’t say anything further, lay there thinking for a moment, then asked, "Will this show be broadcast on local TV?"
"Yes."
"Which channel?"
"Brimfield Television Channel Three."
Simon suddenly sat up, "Oh no, that’s one of Grandpa’s favorite channels."
Sienna realized what he was worried about.
The moment she got the script today, she felt a bit uneasy. It wasn’t the case itself; it was being the defense, having to argue on national TV for a woman who aborted her child without her husband’s knowledge.
To boost the show’s effect, she might even have to say some blunt yet reasonable statements that defend women’s rights while undermining men’s rights. She could already imagine the Forrester Family’s reaction when they see this show.
Simon looked at her with a complicated expression and suggested softly, "Maybe skip this episode and join the next one?"
His words only intensified her anxiety.
She was already uneasy about dealing with such a case, and now, Simon was adding additional pressure, making her on the verge of agitation.
Calming her inner turmoil, she thought for a moment and looked at Simon, calmly saying, "If Grandpa happens to watch this show, please explain things to him. I’m a lawyer, and often, I can’t whimsically choose my cases. Today I might be defending a woman who aborted without her husband’s knowledge; tomorrow, it could be a murderer. This is work; I can’t mix in personal feelings."
After speaking, she intended to return to her spot but was pulled back by him again.
He enclosed her in his arms, remained silent for a moment, and whispered, "I understand, let me know the broadcast time, I’ll turn off the internet at the old house that day."
"Even after the broadcast, it can be replayed."
"Then I’ll find a way to reconfigure the menu and remove that channel, so Grandpa can’t see it."
"Aye." Sienna sighed, wriggling out of Simon’s embrace, and returned to her spot to continue working.
Simon wore a worried frown, not daring to mention to Sienna how, years ago, when Sylvia Langley (Mrs. Forrester) aborted a second child without Old Master Forrester’s consent, he was furious enough to force Zane to divorce her. Nor did he dare tell Sienna that he had promised Old Master Forrester to have three grandchildren someday...
