Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 222 - 220: Willingly
Sienna Thornton was showing Jane Jefferson around when her phone suddenly rang. She picked it up, saw that it was Old Master Forrester, made a pause gesture to Jane, and walked to the balcony to answer—
"Mm-hmm, alright Grandpa, I’ll be back soon. If you’re hungry, go ahead and eat first."
"Has Simon gone over?"
"No need to have him pick me up, I drove myself."
"Okay, see you later."
In just a few short sentences, Sienna Thornton’s extraordinary status in Old Master Forrester’s heart was evident.
Jane Jefferson stood by the sliding door to the balcony, listening to Sienna Thornton’s phone call, a vague smile forming at her lips. Her fingers instinctively pinched tightly, causing the edge of a stack of documents to curl upward.
"Lawyer Jefferson," Sienna Thornton came back in and casually put her phone into her coat pocket, "if there are no issues, shall we go?"
"Sure."
The two of them went downstairs, one after the other. Sienna Thornton closed the thick wooden front door and walked down a few steps, while Jane Jefferson was standing by a red Porsche 911, waiting for her.
Sienna Thornton walked to her own Volvo, which was worth over two hundred thousand, waved at her and said, "Let’s keep in touch by phone," before getting into her car.
Jane Jefferson smiled and watched her until that light blue Volvo disappeared around the corner of the street, and only then did the faint smile at the corner of her lips drop into its most genuine expression.
Tang Sienna was wearing just a short white down jacket, deliberately aged blue jeans, and Nike air sneakers that cost less than a thousand, with her long hair tied into a ponytail, and she wasn’t even wearing makeup, appearing as ordinary as any passerby you might see on the street.
Yet, with such a modest outfit, why did she still exude an inexplicable confidence in her every move? Why was she able to smile so innocently and happily despite experiencing a scandal like the bed-and-breakfast case?
Jane Jefferson bit her teeth bitterly, staring dazedly in the direction where Sienna Thornton had left...
-
After leaving the villa, Jane Jefferson dined at The Imperial Court Club, spending a five-figure sum for lunch, then went on a shopping spree at the mall all afternoon, finally returning to her apartment with several shopping bags.
As the elevator ascended slowly, she looked at her glamorous reflection on the elevator walls, her refined attire, and each of the luxury items in the bags she carried, each worth tens of thousands, yet she felt not a hint of happiness.
"Ding," the elevator door opened, and she straightened her back, habitually tensing her expression and all her muscles, and walked towards her apartment with the bags.
Opening the door, a thick scent of smoke immediately hit her, and she frowned, an expression of surprise and impatience flashing briefly on her face.
Thomas Reed was sitting in the living room, a cigarette in one hand, his other hand arrogantly resting on the armrest of the sofa, his long legs crossed, looking at her with an ominous gaze.
"Don’t smoke in my house!" she glared at him, turned to close the door and changed her shoes, carrying her things to the room.
When she came back out, Thomas Reed was still puffing away.
He scrutinized her through the smoke for a moment, then asked in a sinister tone, "I heard you’re going to become a partner at Sienna Law Firm?"
She was startled; she hadn’t told anyone about this.
She forced a calm smile, walked over, and sat down across from Thomas Reed: "Did Sienna Thornton tell you this?"
Thomas Reed squinted at her, tapped the edge of the ashtray with his cigarette, and resumed smoking.
"Do you think Simon Forrester would let you get close to his woman?" Thomas Reed laughed mockingly, "Who gave you the confidence to think that you could trick Simon Forrester with a little ploy?"
"—Why not?" Jane Jefferson slowly got up, walked over to sit next to him, smiling all the while, leaned to his ear, and whispered, "If I can cause you to divorce, then I can cause Simon Forrester to break up!"
Her words filled Thomas Reed with repulsion. He forcefully grabbed her wandering hand, gritted his teeth, and stared at her, sneering, "You think I divorced because of you? You’re giving yourself too much credit."
In the past, Jane Jefferson would have had a fight to death with him over such words, but today, she was exceptionally calm, looking as usual, and softly asked back, "If not because of me, then who? Hmm? Tell me?..."
She hadn’t finished speaking when Thomas Reed forcefully pulled out the hand she was hiding in her coat pocket, with a "crash," a small voice recorder was tossed to the ground.
Thomas Reed pushed her away, strode over, bent down, and picked up the recorder.
When he turned around again, his jaw was clenched tight, and their eyes were as cold as ice: "If you continue to persist in your wrongful ways, I wouldn’t mind letting my ex-wife, who’s currently in prison, know that you were her ex-husband’s lover for three years and the culprit responsible for her marriage’s breakdown. She’ll be out in just over a year. If you want to experience the feeling of living but wishing you were dead, go ahead and bother Simon Forrester!"
After throwing down those words, he straightened his suit, ready to leave, when a low voice suddenly came from behind, "Thomas."
He stopped in his tracks but did not turn around.
The woman’s voice behind him was broken, "Tell me, why can Sienna Thornton, but I can’t?"
He didn’t answer her directly, but simply said, "You should learn to have a man willingly bring things to you with both hands, rather than habitually fighting and snatching for them!"
With that, he walked away without looking back.
-
The black Rolls-Royce Phantom drove out of the garage and merged with the main road traffic in Brimfield.
Thomas Reed made a phone call.
The phone rang a few times before it was answered.
"Hmm?" the man’s magnetic voice, amplified by the high-end speakers in the car, sounded even deeper and more resonant.
Thomas Reed: "Everything’s sorted. I’ll figure out a way to transfer Jane Jefferson to an overseas branch; you don’t need to worry."
On the other end, Simon Forrester chuckled and said leisurely, "Then I won’t be withdrawing my investment for now."
Thomas Reed: "Suit yourself!"
With that, he bit his molars and hung up the phone.
-
"Whose call was that?" Sienna Thornton peeled a shrimp.
Simon Forrester put his phone in his pocket, opened his mouth, and gestured for her to put the peeled shrimp directly into his mouth.
Like a hungry old baby waiting to be fed.
Sienna Thornton pursed her lips, sneaked a glance at Old Master Forrester, who was pretending to watch TV, and quickly tossed the shrimp into Simon Forrester’s waiting mouth.
Only then was Simon Forrester satisfied, chewing the shrimp, swallowing down, he said, "Thomas Reed. He got into real estate a couple of years ago, and I invested a few billion in him."
"Oh, I see. So why do you want to withdraw your investment?"
"Just because I don’t like him..."
Before he finished speaking, Old Master Forrester sent a glance over, lightly coughed, and admonished, "Cousins should get along! Don’t be childish! It would be embarrassing if outsiders found out!"
"If there’s any embarrassment, it’s on him! Instead of making money by going to court, he goes into real estate? Real estate is not something an outsider like him can handle, is it?"
