Otherworldly Desert Dust-Chapter 465 - 420 Human Emperor Leng Shu
Tongtian City's Ziming Palace, located in the very central area of the entire city, was indistinguishable from an Immortal Mansion, towering majestically above the thousands of household lights, supremely imposing.
Atop the palace, a man sat on the Imperial Platform, taking in the bustling night view of Tongtian City. There was a time when he was no more than a speck of sand in the great Human City, unnoticed and looked down upon, enduring others' humiliation and oppression.
"About ten years ago, on those bustling streets, I was like a beggar," Leng Shu, sitting high on the Imperial Platform, spoke, "I asked the heavens why some people were born to live in this magnificent Ziming Palace, enjoying the service of thousands and receiving worship like Saint Buddha from hundreds of millions of citizens, while even the stray dogs on the roadside despised my flesh as foul and covered in sores?"
The position of the Human Emperor was established in Tongtian City to govern this prosperous capital under the Cloud Holy Country.
Every Saint who ascended to the Holy State took up the position of Human Emperor in Tongtian City, supposedly to witness the myriad facets of the mortal world's end, but in reality, to indulge in the ultimate pleasures of the mortal world like the ancient emperors.
In this role as Human Emperor, any act you committed would not be pursued by the Holy State, even if you ordered the slaughter of the entire Tongtian City. When you ascended to the Holy State, you would even be granted the title of Slayer of Saint Luo, taking responsibility for your actions, with the Holy State not intervening.
Indulge freely, positioned between the Heavenly People and the mortal emperors.
Unfulfilled desires could be freely pursued; people who trampled on your dignity could be mercilessly killed; those things you once desperately craved but could not obtain would now be presented before you.
Who you truly were in that moment didn't need to be concealed—whether you were cruel, cold-blooded, or dishonest—all the broader realms of Heaven would accept you without any moralistic Saint judging your actions or any Law punishing you. Every person who reached this realm would enter the Cloud Holy Country as their truest self, becoming a celestial being, a Cloud Saint!
To be honest, everything came too suddenly for Leng Shu, who hadn't even decided what desires he wanted to indulge.
Sitting here tonight, overlooking Tongtian City, he really should think about it carefully.
"You can issue an edict every day, and when you wake up the next day, your edict will have been fulfilled," said the Red-clothed Heavenly Official of Tongtian City.
"I remember a beggar ten years ago who stole my straw mat. That night, I nearly froze to death..." Leng Shu remarked.
"We will find him and hand him over to you for handling," the Red-clothed Heavenly Official replied.
"I dislike beggars. Can you rid my sight of these most pitiable and also most detestable things before dawn?" Leng Shu asked.
The Red-clothed Heavenly Official showed a look of surprise but then swiftly penned down a line on gold foil.
"We will dispatch Earth Officials to clean up tonight, including those unidentified wanderers and the Lost People, all together," the Red-clothed Heavenly Official stated.
"Eight years ago, when I first joined the Holy Sect, there was a Blood Rain Sect that humiliated me in every way," Leng Shu reminisced about the past.
Now that he sat in this position, he was starting to settle scores.
"Blood Rain Sect, we have noted it. This sect has over a thousand disciples and nine masters. By tomorrow morning when the sun rises, their heads will fall," the Red-clothed Heavenly Official noted again.
"No no no, that's letting them off too easily. Have them deliver the heads of ten people every day, hanging them in the busiest part of Tongtian City. Remember, they must choose themselves—ten heads a day, until there are no survivors in the entire sect," Leng Shu emphasized his method of execution.
"Indeed, slow torture of one's enemies is far more meaningful than quick resolution. We will comply with your edict," the Red-clothed Heavenly Official said.
"During my trials, I met a woman; I don't know from which clan in the Divine Realm she was, but I still remember her face, I'll draw her..." Leng Shu reminisced.
"Alright, if we cannot find her, shall we bring all women who resemble her?" the Red-clothed Heavenly Official asked.
"What use is mere resemblance? Bring her to me!" Leng Shu raised an eyebrow, his tone tinged with anger.
"If she is from another Divine Realm or a foreigner, it would be quite difficult for us," the Red-clothed Heavenly Official explained their limitations.
Leng Shu nodded, not overly concerned about this matter.
Speaking of women, his mind again conjured the image of Qingxi, who would rather suffer torture than submit.
However, compared to women, there were many more interesting things to do in this world. He wasn't in a hurry. He would let Qingxi suffer enough before dealing with her. After all, he had developed possessive desires for many women over these ten years. Drawing them one by one, and having his subordinates fetch them for him, he could indulge for a long time.
Leng Shu rapidly drew more than a dozen portraits, each woman depicted vividly. With the capabilities and Divine Skills of the Red-clothed Heavenly Official, finding them all in the Mortal World wouldn't be difficult.
"Emperor Leng's mundane thoughts are quite simple, we shall follow them," said the Red-clothed Heavenly Official.
"Simple?" Leng Shu frowned, displeased with the comment.
Was it like a beggar who suddenly became an emperor, and his first wish was just to eat steamed buns every day?
His own decrees, seen as simple by the worldly Red-clothed Heavenly Official, made him wonder if compared to earlier Ascended Saints, he wasn't twisted enough?
The Red-clothed Heavenly Official just smiled and said no more.
The practice of the Holy Sect was inherently bloodthirsty; some Saints had previously practiced cannibalism. Hence, after assuming the throne of the Human Emperor, they gathered people who matched their bloodline temperament, then stewed them in a large pot, redefining the Blood Pond Meat Forest.
There were also those who, on their path of Holy Cultivation, indulged their libidinous impulses. After becoming Human Emperor, their deeds amazed the Red-clothed Heavenly Official. Compared to the dozen portraits of women drawn by Leng Shu, using portraits to find people was a thing even mortal emperors would tire of...
"But haven't I been counting from early years? How do you know that in these years of officially practicing in the Holy Sect, I haven't had more shocking and unconventional obsessions?" said Leng Shu.
"Indeed, my lord. These days, I will stay by your side, and you may inform me of any thoughts. Whatever you can think of, we can realize for you, partly to cleanse worldly distractions, and partly to let you experience the Divine Skills of our Holy Sect," the Red-clothed Heavenly Official responded.

"I should think about it well," Leng Shu nodded.
As they were speaking, a woman came running, crying.
She was dressed in blue and seemed greatly aggrieved. Upon seeing Leng Shu, she threw herself into his arms.
Seeing it was Ling Wan running toward him, Leng Shu showed little joy.
Speaking of desires, he could wait for those women he painted to be delivered, like anticipating a feast of Taotie, finding this tasteless grain before him less appetizing; it was merely a filler previously.
"Lord Leng Shu, you must take my side, that Cai Ting who came from War Song Mountain is so arrogant..." Ling Wan immediately complained.
"That young man made it out of War Song Mountain??" Hearing this, Leng Shu felt joy instead of frustration.
Just when he couldn't think of anything to delight him, his enemy delivered himself.
He had thought the boy might have died inside; emerging alive was far too good.
The times had changed outside. He, Leng Shu, controlled Tongtian City, and he was also exercising his Human Emperor's desires!
"Let's go and slaughter him right now!" Yin Zhiyu, upon hearing the news, stood up at once.
"Ah, there's no need for the Human Emperor to act himself; this kind of thing should be left to us Heavenly Officials to handle," said the Red-clothed Heavenly Official.
Leng Shu thought it over, deeming it too lenient to just kill the opponent outright.
He inquired of Ling Wan, "Where is he headed now?"
"He should be going to the Punishment Hall, he wants to save Qingxi," Ling Wan said.
"Haha, what a pair of doomed lovers; it's a long night, so let's play with them. They probably don't even realize that I control the entire Tongtian City. How about starting with a little appetizer?" A boastful smile appeared on Leng Shu's face.
"How about this, tonight only one of the two can survive. Let them choose to kill the other, and only then can the other live. I bet on Qingxi, I think she's not as chaste as she appears, just a woman trying to climb the ranks by any means necessary. She's shortsighted, not seeing who really controls her fate, so knowing that I, Leng Shu, am now Human Emperor, she'll surely seize this opportunity to kill the boy, showing her sincerity," Yin Zhiyu suggested, having also found an amusing tactic.
Leng Shu considered this and found it interesting, so he ordered the Red-clothed Heavenly Official to record this decree.
"That young man has survived coming out of War Song Mountain, he must have some tricks up his sleeve; unless I act personally, killing him won't be easy." Leng Shu recalled the opponent's tactics and spoke up.
The Red-clothed Heavenly Official, while recording the life and death of Wu Hen and Qingxi like a Life and Death Judge, smiled and said, "The position of Human Emperor is ordained by Saint Luo, written in this Golden Edict, it will surely be executed. No matter how difficult, what we as Red-clothed Heavenly Officials can't do will be handled by the Holy Venerable Saint Luo from heaven, so the Human Emperor can rest assured."
Leng Shu was overjoyed inside; he finally understood why everyone in the Holy Sect was madly obsessed with Ascension to Saint.
This was no different from ranking among the Immortals, and unlike former Immortal ranks which espoused non-interference in the mortal world, ranking as an Immortal in Holy Cultivation meant wholly releasing one's true nature after stepping into the rank, not judging Ascended Saints by human morality. They revered the utmost power; those who disrupt the Holy Heart could be annihilated. No profound moral doctrines bound them, similar to those cold yet sacred stars in the universe—capable of shining light for the proliferation of life or raining down wrath to obliterate the living.
