Otherworldly Affairs Office-Chapter 875: Two Months Later
"Who sent you to ask this question? Pei Yan? Or Xila personally?" After a crisp crunch, the Demon God, transformed into a child, bit into his lollipop and asked coldly, surveying Kane Samikina, who was crouched and trembling in fear.
"No one instructed me! This is just a doubt in my own heart," Samikina replied, sweat dripping onto the floor.
"You have too many doubts! Step back!"
"Yes!" Feeling the anger from the Demon God dissipating, Samikina ignored the cold sweat dripping from his forehead and quickly bowed and retreated from the Demon God's sight. Though he didn't find the answers he was seeking today, he realized that Xila was a forbidden subject in the Demon God's heart, yet the underlying story remained an enigma to him.
Watching Samikina disappear from his sight, the anger on the Demon God's face eased as he turned and slowly walked deeper into the Holy Hall. He wouldn't share his worries and fears about Xila with anyone. The birth of this Child of Origin was entirely unexpected, and even he hadn't anticipated that she would inherit his most vital trait. From her, the Demon God first felt the possibility of his own being surpassed, which both delighted and confused him, leaving him uncertain about how to treat this 'daughter,' opting instead to set it aside for observation.
A week later, after the conversation with Samikina, and on the fifteenth day of Pei Yan's entry into the Ghost Realm, the Demon God sat in a small cabin, puzzled. Three days ago, he couldn't sense any sounds from Pei Yan, and as he feared Pei Yan had lost his sanity and self-awareness, he sent a message into the Ghost Realm. While prepared to break open the space to bring him out, he unexpectedly received a calm and usual response from Pei Yan: "Wait a little longer, I can hold out for much longer!"
This fifteenth day was nearing the limit of Sasum, yet Pei Yan's response showed no sign of weakness or fear, making the Demon God unsure whether Pei Yan had broken through his limits or was completely possessed by the malicious ghosts. After all, Lin Junzhao had chosen him as the Child of Origin, and despite a promise not to hold each other accountable if training went awry, allowing harm to come to Pei Yan would not only displease Lin Junzhao but also affect a wager with that guy.
Due to such concerns, the Demon God became more anxious than Pei Yan trapped in peril, checking on Pei Yan's well-being every three days. As time passed, this frequency increased from three days to every two days, until it became every half day as Pei Yan reached one and a half months in the Ghost Realm. Now not only him but also Samikina and the high-ranking members of the Demon Race were summoned outside the cabin by the Demon God, fearing an incident when Pei Yan was brought out, ready either to suppress or desperately save his damaged soul. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
This tense atmosphere continued for half a month until the Demon God decided to forcibly extract Pei Yan from the Ghost Realm space, regardless of his response. That was when Pei Yan finally requested to leave, declaring his training complete.
The moment he received this request, the Demon God broke open the void without hesitation, pulling Pei Yan out from within the Ghost Realm amidst a cacophony of ghostly wails. Simultaneously, the high-ranking demons surrounding the space rift prepared to strike any escape attempts by malicious ghosts, a frequent occurrence when someone exited training from the Ghost Realm, something they had grown accustomed to.
Contrary to everyone's expectations, Pei Yan's departure was unusually quiet. Until the Demon God's enormous hand manifested, pulling Pei Yan from the closing rift in the Ghost Realm. Aside from the lingering echoed cries, not a single malicious ghost attempted to approach the rift to escape!
Samikina couldn't spare a moment to ponder the abnormality, like others, focusing on Pei Yan as the rift closed. One look at Pei Yan left Samikina startled. Pei Yan had undergone considerable change over just two months.
When Samikina had personally escorted him into the cabin, Pei Yan was still a spirited young man. Now his once dark and glossy hair was bleached silver under torment, his body pale and drained of vitality. But when Samikina looked into Pei Yan's eyes, he involuntarily retreated a few steps in fear.
Hostility! The glaring hostility! Normally acceptable for his eerie right eye, yet even his emotionless mechanical left eye seeming to pierce Samikina's chest like a sharp blade upon contact. Though Pei Yan previously excelled in battle and killing, the mere pressure from his gaze now was unparalleled. Just what had he endured these last two months?
"Pei Yan, are you still yourself?" Samikina asked without thinking.
"Of course I'm still me, you can ask the Demon God if you don't believe me, he should check thoroughly." Pei Yan pushed aside the young Demon God's assistive hand, steadied himself, the hostility in his eyes dissipating slightly, then joked with Samikina.
"He is definitely Pei Yan. But, he's vastly different from the one you knew before. To endure so long in the Ghost Realm and hone such an aura of hostility, life inside must have been tough!" The Demon God patted Pei Yan's shoulder, just a brief examination assured him Pei Yan's soul was intact, still under his control. Surprisingly, contrary to his expectations, Pei Yan's soul hadn't grown tougher nor was it damaged, remaining within normal limits as before entering the Ghost Realm. Aroused curiosity and unavoidably asked probingly.
"Ah, quite difficult! How long did I spend inside? When does our next training start?" Pei Yan casually dodged the question, asking back.
"Two months!" The Demon God casually replied to Pei Yan's indirect response while sensing what changes occurred within the Ghost Realm. This investigation shocked the Demon God, turning his expression grim. Withdrawing his consciousness, he stared at Pei Yan incredulously, "What did you do? A third of the malice ghosts in the Ghost Realm are missing!"
Previously focused solely on Pei Yan's safety, the Demon God hadn't noticed abnormalities in the Ghost Realm. Now discovering a third of its malice ghosts gone, it brought him a stab of pain, swiftly followed by an overwhelming anger!
