After a brief walk beside the ocean, Hans returned to the hotel.

He took off his clothes, took a shower, and then laid on his bed refreshed.

The sheets were sucking him in, and his mind was already relaxed, but he had something to do.

He sat in the position he would usually take while meditating before closing his eyes.

Analyzing his body with mana, Hans scanned once again the dark power surrounding his heart.

It may have just been his impression, but it felt slightly deeper than last time, he could not find any words to describe it.

He once again began pouring his mama inside it, causing it to go rampant and absorb even more, slowly depleting Hans’s mana.

As his energy drifted inside that strange seemingly endless hole, darkness surrounded Hans.

This time his reaction was nothing special since he had become quite accustomed to it.

A few seconds later, Hans began noticing the silhouettes, that, as always, stood still in their determined position.

Without wasting time by searching for him personally, Hans searched for Calean as he had done the previous time, calling for his name, and waiting for that mysterious place to reply to his will.

His vision became blurry, and an instant later, he found the shining figure he was searching for standing right in front of him.

He took a few steps but stopped before touching that figure.

He didn’t know whether to call Caelan from the world of the dead once again, after all, he did deserve some rest after all he had been through.

’Caelan, in sorry, I would like to let you rest in peace, but the more I know the better.

I’m sure you can understand since your people were once in the same situation as mine, but power can save many lives.

You cannot disobey me here, whatever I ask will be answered, and missing such an opportunity would be nothing but a foolish act.

If so you wish, then you can see it as repenting for your errors, but I will get what I want, whether you are willing to give it to me or not.’

He put his hand on the golden glowing silhouette, and the scenery around him changed once again, returning to pitch black.

Then, walking towards him, a few meters in the distance appeared a figure, whose face could be recognized by Hans.

"For goddess’s sake, haven’t I told you I want to be left in peace, do you need to disturb me even after I died?"

"I need information, and you are the only one I can get them from."

"Then just don’t get them"

"That sounds like your typical answer"

"Right, Doesn’t it?

I think there might be a reason why.

If you could understand it maybe I won’t have to be summoned here every two seconds because of some useless doubts."

Completely ignoring the childish remark made by Caelan, Hans asked his question:

"Caelan, what can you tell me about my powers?"

The question was pretty straightforward, aiming for a simple reply.

But instead of a reply, silence was the only thing that accompanied it.

"Huh? Caelan, please tell me"

"I can’t"

"?

Weren’t you forced to tell the truth inside here?"

"I am"

"Then…"

"I don’t know, the words just don’t come out of my mouth whenever I try to tell you"

Hans watched up in the limitless dark after hearing this.

’Is this power... Concealing its identity?’

’Just like Caelan is forced to reply to my questions, this place is keeping him from giving me any information about itself.

Does this vast bottomless abyss… have a consciousness? Or maybe a master?’

"Then, can you answer some simple questions?"

"I will reply to you if I can, but it all depends on this place’s rules."

"Alright."

"Is this the power of a god?"

Asked Hans, surprisingly, the words that came out of Caelan’s mouth could be heard.

"It would be wrong to define him as a god, but it does have many things in common with the gods’ powers."

"How did you get to know this power?"

"My goddess once told me about it"

Hans was surprised to hear about this, to think it was something a god would tell their disciples.

"What did she tell you!"

Even if no reply came back, Caelan’s eyes clearly conveyed the message:

[man… are you for real, how could you expect me to be able to say that?]

"Ah, I guess this is also banned, I got a little bit too excited.

Then… when talking about my powers… did she talk about me?"

This was what confused Hans, the goddess, and Caelan had this conversation probably hundreds or maybe thousands of years earlier, how could the goddess already know about him?

But the reply he got from Caelan made him even more curious than before.

"No"

The fact that the goddess was talking about his powers without talking about him meant that someone before him possessed them.

"Well… I would like to ask who it is, but it doesn’t take a genius to understand that you won’t be able to tell me what I want"

"At least you know, that’s good.

Are you done here now?"

"No, I wanted to learn some ice spells, high-ranking ones.

The only thing I need right now is to bring all my paths up to the seventh tier, I will think about advancing later."

"That’s some big ambition you’ve got there, it isn’t as easy as you think it might be"

"Maybe, but I’m sure I’ll manage"

"Crazy guy"

"You can call me that if you want."

After a sigh, Caelan asked:

"So? What spell do you want to learn?"

"A domain spell, do you have a seventh-tier one?"

’Domain spells are one of the various types of spells one can learn in every path.

As long as one resides inside a domain spell, the firepower of the corresponding element’s spells will be increased.

With a seventh tier domain spell, even if I am only capable of casting sixth-tier ice spells, they would have an effect similar to pseudo seventh-tier attacks.

That is why a domain spell is always the first one I try to obtain when advancing’

"A domain spell… I don’t have any below the eighth grade I’m sorry"

"What? Are they not as frequent in your world?"

"That right, ice mages don’t create domain spells under the seventh tier, since they are pretty much useless, and our family only had eight tier ones and above"

" what? Useless? They are so powerful!"

"They are… but for other mages, for us ice mages we can just use nature’s mana, if someone were to cast an ice domain spell under the seventh tier it wouldn’t even make any difference"

"What? Why?!"

"Because ice mana is everywhere, those who can control ice are the most fearsome mages exactly because of that"

"And what about the places where there isn’t ice mana?"

"You mean volcanos? Don’t worry about those, even if you cast a domain spell inside those it would just melt"

"No no… I don’t mean volcanos, I mean cities where it’s warmer and the temperature’s high."

"What? You have cities like that?"

"Don’t tell me…

Caelan, have you ever been to the sea?"

"Uh? Yes, I have, I went there for a mission.

The wind that blew upon the coast was some of the fiercest I’ve ever faced in my life"

"Have you ever bathed in seawater?"

"No.

Why would I do that? Do you want me to freeze to death?"

"Is there anywhere in your world where the temperature’s above five degrees?"

"Mh? Oh, yes"

’Sigh… I got scared for a second there, I thought his whole world was covered by ice and snow’

"The greatest noble houses have a temperature about that high.

Apart from mine obviously, we Frostbanes are immune to the cold, so the temperature in our houses was around minus five"

"What?!"

’Shit… are you for real?!

His whole world is… frozen’

"That’s right… I haven’t had the chance to ask you yet.

What was your level when you were alive?"

’Caelan was a terrifying monster even while weakened, just what level did he achieve by killing all those monsters during the war?’

"What? Do you mean tier? I already told you I created my tenth circle, and I am not boasting by telling you even the eleventh one was not so far away for me."

"No, I mean your level, the one displayed by the status window"

"Uh? Status… window? What’s that"

Hans’s pupil dilated, his heart started racing, and his forehead started sweating.

How could he have been so simple-minded, how could he guarantee that every world had a status window?

He thought the status window was what made one awaken, but if it wasn’t that then… what was it?

He also realized something else, the power of the spells used by Caelan always seemed high for his rank, even for someone blessed by the goddess.

There was a reason for that…

He, like every other mage in his world… was a true mage.
