One Piece: I'm Destined to Be the Son-in-Law King!-Chapter 122: Demon Bamboo Strike!
Chapter 122 - Demon Bamboo Strike!
Roya spent three days resting at the G-5 base, trying to get his strength back.
The last fight had caught him off guard, so it wasn't too dangerous. But now, as he prepared to sail, he knew he had to be ready for a real, tough battle.
Before leaving, he had one more thing he needed to do.
Vice Admiral Vergo had returned.
In the center of the training field, Roya faced Vergo, slowly pulling out Rain Cutter. "Vice Admiral Vergo," he said, "this is the last time I'll challenge you."
"Then you'd better be ready," Vergo replied, picking up his bamboo stick. Behind his dark sunglasses, Roya could see a flash of anger in Vergo's eyes. Roya's actions against the Family's business had definitely angered him.
Vergo had already told Doffy everything about Roya. The Family was planning to get rid of Roya during his next mission.
Vergo's job right now was to keep an eye on Roya.
Over the years, many Marines like Roya had come to G-5, eager to make a name for themselves in the New World. But they all ended up dying in "accidents."
Vergo was sure Roya would be no different.
"Shave!"
In a flash, both men disappeared from where they stood!
"Clang!"
Metal met bamboo!
Then, they were locked in a furious exchange, their weapons clashing and sending sparks flying. The training field echoed with the sounds of the intense fight!
It wasn't about fancy moves. It was a pure test of strength and Haki!
"Hey, something's not right!"
"This fight is too intense!"
"Are they trying to kill each other?"
The G-5 Marines and the 11th Division soldiers watched, their throats dry.
This fight between Roya and Vice Admiral Vergo was much more brutal than their previous ones. It felt like a fight to the death!
Someone was going to die!
Roya roared as he attacked, pushing forward relentlessly.
He'd fought Vergo countless times and knew one thing: he couldn't beat Vergo with just the Six Styles.
Vergo was a master of Haki. He could defend against any of Roya's attacks using his Observation Haki and Armament Haki.
Even in terms of fighting skills, Vergo was just as good as him.
There was no easy way to win!
But that was why he had to throw away all fear and hesitation. He had to focus only on defeating his opponent.
"Roya, what will you do if you face an enemy you can't beat?"
"Retreat first, and wait for a chance."
"What if there's no escape? What will you do?"
"..."
This was the question Teacher Zephyr had left him with at the end of his training.
As a Marine on the front lines, he would eventually face an enemy he couldn't defeat, maybe even death.
Teacher Zephyr, have you ever been in this situation?
"Hahahaha, of course I have, many times."
Then how did you survive, Teacher?
"Simple, believe in yourself!"
Only by believing in yourself!
Willpower is a strength, too!
"Bang!"
Roya was sent flying, crashing into the sand. Rain Cutter spun through the air and stuck in the ground a few feet away.
"Damn it!"
Roya jumped up, his fists glowing with Haki , and charged at Vergo again, his eyes burning brighter than ever.
Unwavering determination is power!
"This kid's Haki!"
Vergo blocked Roya's punches. He could feel Roya's Haki growing stronger with each blow.
No, Roya's Haki had been improving with every fight, but this time it was happening fast!
This kid is incredibly dangerous!
I have to kill him!
Vergo's desire to kill grew stronger. He gripped his bamboo stick with both hands, spun it behind him, and watched Roya charge. Veins popped out on his arms as he poured Haki into the stick and swung it with all his might!
His strongest attack!
"Demon Bamboo Strike!"
"Bang!"
The bamboo stick slammed into Roya's side!
The next second...
"Boom!!!"
The ground behind Roya caved in and shattered!
The entire training field shook!
"Black Hair!"
"Colonel Roya!"
The Marines gasped in horror. No one expected Vice Admiral Vergo to go all out, using his "Demon Bamboo Strike"!
It was Vergo's signature move, the reason for his nickname. Even the strongest sea monster couldn't survive it!
In the center of the training field, Roya's face was covered in blood, his eyes rolled back.
With a "thump," he fell to the ground.
Vergo's chest rose and fell heavily. He'd put everything he had into that strike, using all his Haki and skill. There was no way Roya could have lived.
Killing Roya would cause problems, but getting rid of a future threat to the Family was worth it.
Vergo turned to leave.
"Thwack!"
Something grabbed his ankle!
"What!"
Vergo turned back and saw Roya, reaching out to hold his leg. Behind his sunglasses, his eyes were wide with disbelief.
He'd swung that Demon Bamboo Strike with the certainty that he would kill the kid. Even if it hadn't killed him instantly, the force would have crushed his insides and broken his back.
Why wasn't he dead!
Why could he still move!
His hand tightened on the bamboo stick, veins bulging on his skin. He had to finish the kid off!
"Colonel Roya!"
"Black Hair!"
The Marines rushed onto the training field, surrounding Roya.
"Quick, get a doctor!"
"A stretcher! Get a stretcher!"
Vergo's face darkened. The hand holding the bamboo stick slowly relaxed. He'd lost his chance. If he wanted to kill Black Hair, he'd have to do it somewhere else.
But even if Black Hair survived, injuries like this would cripple him. He'd achieved his goal.
"Quick, get Black Hair to the medical room!"
Vergo wore a concerned expression, urging the medical staff, showing no sign of the murderous intent he'd had just moments ago.
"Get out of the way!"
Smoker pushed through the crowd, his arms turning into smoke as he lifted the unconscious Roya and flew toward his own warship.

He didn't trust the medical facilities at G-5.
"Lu Yun."
"Understood!"
Lu Yun hurried after him. The warship had medical staff, but they weren't as skilled as she was.
When she was an intern at Punk Hazard, she had helped Vegapunk with his research on bloodline factors, which required a lot of medical knowledge. Many of the experiments involved the human body, so she had learned a lot about medicine.
A minute later, in the warship's medical room...
"Don't worry, he still has a heartbeat!"
Lu Yun checked Roya's vital signs and sighed with relief. His side was badly damaged, but his heart and other organs weren't as badly hurt.
"Everyone, get out!"
After clearing the room, Lu Yun took out her surgical kit and performed emergency surgery on Roya. In less than half an hour, she was done.
Roya was awake!
"Senior Roya, how do you feel?"
"I'm okay, except I can't feel my legs."
Roya's face twisted in pain. He opened his mouth with difficulty. "Lu Yun, did you forget to give me anesthesia?"
"..."
Lu Yun innocently looked away.
"You were passed out. What would be the point of anesthesia?"
Roya took a deep breath and stared at Lu Yun. "Lu Yun, please get me some food, as much as possible."
"Food?"
Lu Yun glanced at Roya's stomach and said calmly, "Senior Roya, your stomach is ruptured, and your intestines are a mess. You can't eat anything right now."
"Just do it."
Roya almost fainted from anger.
Does this brat have to talk about my organs like that!
Crap, I'm about to pass out.
"The World!"
