Chapter 244: The Intruder from the Sky
At the port of Marineford, the sea breeze carried a hint of salt but couldn’t disperse the suffocating heat.
Sakazuki stared dead at Kuzan, looking at him as if he were a stranger who had completely lost his mind. The cigar in his mouth crunched under the pressure of his teeth, sparks flying.
"A good thing?" Sakazuki’s voice was terribly low, every word squeezed out like magma through gritted teeth. "Kuzan, have you been adrift so long that your brain has waterlogged and frozen over? Abandoning the chokehold on the New World, moving the entire force to the countryside of the Weakest Sea... and moving the swine from the Holy Land with us? You call this absurd act that shakes the very foundation of the World Government a ’good thing’?!"
Boom!
As Sakazuki’s emotions fluctuated, the ground beneath his feet turned instantly crimson. The hard granite tiles melted into viscous magma at a visible rate, emitting acrid black smoke. The surrounding Marines scrambled backward in terror, afraid of being caught in the enraged Admiral’s wake.
Kuzan remained in his lazy posture. He scratched his messy hair and exhaled a white breath, forming a thin wall of ice in front of him to block the oncoming heat wave.
"Arara, Sakazuki, don’t be so agitated. Although it sounds ridiculous... what if it’s true?"
Kuzan half-closed his eyes, his gaze drifting to the soldiers busy moving supplies in the distance. The faces of those soldiers didn’t show the panic of leaving their homes, but a strange, irrepressible excitement. It was as if they were about to march into the Promised Land flowing with milk and honey.
"You heard what that Sergeant said. The Dungeon. As long as you have money, you can obtain power surpassing an Admiral."
As Kuzan said this, the shameful image of himself waving a pink magic wand in that mysterious space flashed through his mind. Although humiliating, that power... was real. For those pursuing strength, the temptation was lethal.
"Heh." Sakazuki sneered, his face written with disdain and contempt. "Surpass an Admiral? You believe ghost stories meant to trick three-year-olds? Foreign power is foreign power. I, Sakazuki, am where I am today because of myself. I’ll put my words here: even if I starve to death, even if I die out here, I will absolutely stop this absurd order. I see naval discipline has thoroughly rotted if such baseless rumors can shake the army’s resolve!"
He waved his hand violently, his Justice coat snapping in the wind. "I don’t care if Sengoku has gone senile or the Five Elders have gone mad. I will not accompany them in this farce! Justice must not be covered in dust in that kind of countryside!"
Finished, Sakazuki didn’t spare Kuzan another glance. He strode forward, transforming into a stream of flowing magma, charging straight toward the Headquarters building with unmatched fury. Wherever he passed, wooden crates and barricades were vaporized by high heat, leaving a shocking, scorched path.
Kuzan watched Akainu’s retreating back and sighed helplessly. "That guy, always so one-track minded." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
"SENGOKU!"
Accompanied by a roar filled with rage, the already teetering door of the Fleet Admiral’s office was kicked open by a scorching leather boot. With a loud boom, the heavy solid wood door instantly turned into flying sparks and sawdust.
Sakazuki walked in with a dark face. His dark red suit was still smoking. He looked like an active volcano about to erupt.
Inside the office, Sengoku was holding a cup of hot tea and jumped at the sudden noise, spilling tea over his hand.
"Sakazuki!" Sengoku put down the teacup, veins throbbing on his forehead. "This is the third door I’ve replaced this month! Do you have a problem with my office?"
Sakazuki ignored Sengoku’s complaint entirely. He marched to the desk and slammed his hands down heavily. Scorching magma flowed through his fingers, burning two black handprints into the expensive mahogany.
"I don’t have a problem with the door. I have a problem with your absurd order!" Sakazuki bit his cigar, his eyes fierce enough to eat someone. "Move Headquarters to the East Blue? And move the Holy Land too? Sengoku, have you sat in this seat so long your brain has rusted?"
"Do you know what this morale-shaking order means? It means we are showing weakness to the pirates! It means Justice is retreating!"
Faced with Sakazuki’s interrogation, before Sengoku could speak, a burst of heartless laughter came from the sofa nearby.
"Pfft-hahahaha! Sengoku, I told you, this brat would definitely blow his top."
Garp held a handful of senbei, stuffing them into his mouth while laughing until tears nearly came out. He sat with his legs crossed, his slacker appearance making Sakazuki even more furious.
"Garp!" Sakazuki turned his head sharply, his gaze like a knife. "And you! I heard that the rumor about the so-called ’Dungeon’ came from your mouth? Money makes you strong? Can Justice be measured by money?"
In the corner, Kizaru, who was trimming his nails, slowly looked up. His sunglasses reflected the light, a wretched smile hanging on his lips. "Ooh Sakazuki, what a scary expression. But you shouldn’t speak so absolutely. It hurts a lot when you get slapped in the face, you know"
Sakazuki snorted coldly. "Slap in the face? In this world, who can slap my face? Even if Roger came back to life, I’d smack him twice across the face..."
Just then—
Wooo—!!!
An ear-piercing siren rang through Marineford without warning. The shrill sound instantly tore through the relatively calm air.
Immediately following was a terrified broadcast from the lookout tower.
"Enemy attack! Enemy attack! Unidentified flying object directly above! Massive size! It is descending rapidly! All personnel, Level 1 Alert!!!"
Inside the office, the expressions of the four men changed simultaneously.
Sengoku stood up abruptly, his face grave. "Directly above? Could it be that madman Kaido?"
A cold light flashed in Sakazuki’s eyes. He turned sharply and strode out, his Justice coat snapping. "Hmph, perfect timing. I was just worrying about having nowhere to vent this anger. Whoever it is, since they dare to seek death at this time, don’t think about leaving alive!"
.....
Marineford Plaza.
Countless Marines looked up in panic. The originally clear sky was now shrouded in a massive shadow.
It wasn’t a dark cloud. Nor was it a meteor.
It was... an island! A massive floating island suspended ten thousand meters in the air, blotting out the sun!
And at the forefront of that island, a figure wearing a golden kimono with wild hair stood proudly. He had his arms crossed, suspended in the sky without any support. The wind blew his robes, making them snap loudly. That domineering aura looking down on the world seemed to make even the sky bow its head.
"Jihahahaha!"
A laugh of utmost arrogance exploded from the high altitude like rolling thunder, hurting the eardrums of the countless Marines below and making their blood surge.
"Sengoku! Garp! I’m back!"
"This time, Marineford will become history!"
