One Piece: Capitalist Brook's Crew Expansion Plan-Chapter 70: The Harsh Weather of the New World
Chapter 70 - 70: The Harsh Weather of the New World
The Golden Ark shot out from the depths of the sea, emerging onto the ocean's surface. The coating that had kept it intact underwater dissolved instantly, vanishing without a trace.
"Woohoo! So, this is the New World? Is the air here truly filled with the sweet scent of freedom?"
Shakky mused aloud. Pirates flocked to the New World for a reason—here, the Marines' presence was at its weakest. With far fewer naval forces pursuing them, this place was a pirate's paradise. freёweɓnovel.com
But it wasn't without its dangers. The brutal natural elements and constant battles between pirates meant that freedom was only an illusion. In the end, everything came down to strength.
Shakky quickly retrieved a climate detector from Weather Science Island, Weatheria, to check whether its predictions for the New World's weather held up.
The moment she glanced at the display, her face darkened. The detection rods, displaying both a wind symbol and an ice symbol, spun wildly.
"Damn... We just got here, and we're already running into extreme weather?"
She immediately halted Fishman Tom and Redfield from activating the ship's flight system. Taking off in these conditions would be suicidal.
"No flying! A massive storm and giant hail are incoming! Change course! Activate the rear Jet Dials and head north!"
At Shakky's command, Tom turned the helm sharply, maximizing the ship's maneuverability while engaging the Jet Dials to accelerate their retreat. Meanwhile, Brook and Redfield braced themselves for the impending storm.
The ship's sniper, Silva, swapped out his rifle for a modified shoulder-mounted cannon, preparing to blast apart the legendary house-sized hailstones.
Inside the ship, the doctor, Crocus, and intelligence officer, Antonio, retreated into the cabin. As non-combatants, they left matters of ship defense to the captain and fighters.
Fisher Tiger, however, stood on deck, eyes gleaming with excitement. This was his first time experiencing the New World's legendary weather.
"Hail and storms? What's so scary about that?"
Then, he saw them—massive chunks of ice, the size of houses, crashing down from the sky. Each impact sent waves surging dozens of meters high, their force greater than an explosion.
He clenched his fists, wondering if his strongest punch could shatter one of them.
The answer? Probably not.
Fortunately, the Golden Ark had already maneuvered out of the densest impact zone. The few stray hailstones that got too close were swiftly destroyed—Brook and Redfield's sword auras slashed through them effortlessly, while Silva's shoulder cannon blasted them into shards.
Once they escaped the icy storm, they were met with a scorching, cloudless sky. The heat was so intense that even Brook, despite being undead, retreated into the shade of the cabin.
For Tiger, this was his first time under the blazing sun. At first, he was thrilled—finally, he could experience true life beneath the open sky. But within minutes, his already reddish skin deepened, a searing pain spreading across his body.
He had gotten sunburned.
The crew had a good laugh at his expense before Tom dragged him into the cabin, tossing him a small bottle of sunscreen.
"Some things, you've gotta experience to learn," Tom chuckled.
Finally, they entered calmer waters. The crew resumed their usual routines—some training, others conducting research, each immersed in their own tasks.
...
Just then, Shakky spotted a News Coo flying overhead. Recognizing it as one of their own carrier birds, she waved it down. Without hesitation, she pulled out several Belly bills, buying the entire stack of newspapers in one go.
Even though it was their own business, money had to be paid. After all, the birds needed to account for their earnings. As a bonus, she offered the seagull a piece of fruit, but it professionally declined, taking the money and flying off—strict no-stranger-food policy!
"Ahh!"
Shakky's shocked voice drew everyone's attention.
"Brook, Captain! The new bounties are out!"
Flipping through the wanted posters, she finally found hers—
50 million Belly.
"Not bad. These reporters did a decent job capturing my charm!"
Shakky was pleased with her picture. It showcased her as a youthful, invincible beauty. However...
"What the hell is this nickname?! 'The Extortionist Girl'?!"
Her lips trembled as she muttered in disbelief.
"Isn't there a single person in Marine Headquarters with a shred of creativity?!
'Hellish Beauty,' 'Black-Haired Witch,' 'Infernal Seductress'—any of these would've been better! But no, they went with this?!"
Brook glanced at the paper, quickly noticing something else—
"This article was written by Mortomas. Apparently, I 'liberated slaves' somewhere?"
His own bounty had skyrocketed—600 million Belly.
"Captain Brook, that's incredible! Redfield's at 550 million Belly too!"
Fisher Tiger exclaimed, struggling to comprehend the sheer number of zeros on the bounty posters. He had never seen such figures before.
Tom picked up his own bounty—100 million Belly. He carefully tucked the poster away, planning to follow the crew's trend and hang it in his cabin.
"Brook, I still don't have a bounty..."
Antonio sighed after scanning all the wanted posters. Even the Qilin Lion had a 1 million Belly bounty, but he had nothing.
Despite being the first to join Brook's crew, he hadn't even earned a 100 Belly bounty.
"That's a good thing! You're our secret weapon."
Brook reassured him. As the crew's intelligence officer, remaining unknown was an advantage. If the World Government caught wind of him, things could get troublesome.
"Antonio, I don't have one either, so don't worry. One day, we'll make a name for ourselves too!"
Tiger encouraged him. The massive Fishman calling the much smaller Antonio "big bro" made for a humorous sight.
"Fine, I get it... I'll just accept my fate."
Antonio sighed dramatically, walking back into the ship—only to rush back out moments later.
"Captain! Bad news! Our Den Den Mushi No. 43 is getting further away!"
"What?!"
Brook's face darkened as he quickly pieced it together.
Streusen was on the move.
He was taking Charlotte Linlin in the opposite direction.
That wouldn't do. That wouldn't do at all.
"Time to remind her who's in charge."
Meanwhile, Edward Newgate wasn't making any moves either. Instead, he remained on a nearby island, waiting for the Hell Pirates to arrive...
