One-Eyed Monster-Chapter 725 - 722: The Other Side
The situation at Moonflow Stream had abruptly come to an end, unfolding in a way no one had expected. What was supposed to be a one-sided domination suddenly reversed, concluding just as hurriedly. The mighty Dark Force failed to display its extraordinary skills and was inconspicuously annihilated by the sun. The counterattack from the other side also lacked any earth-shattering impact, concluding rather obscurely. Wizard Reed's last lingering will vanished completely, leaving no trace. The Black Crow's venerable elder had fallen on Guru Mountain, not even a fragment of bone remaining.
The sunlight at Moonflow Stream was perfect. Despite the falling snow, the sun's brilliance remained undiminished.
Sunlight generously bathed every corner of Guru Mountain. The incident at Moonflow Stream calmed everyone. They suddenly realized that even an indomitable Dark Force could crumble, and that it had perished in such an unexpected way.
Everyone silently closed their eyes. Their common enemy, the Dark Force, had been defeated, bringing their internal conflicts to the fore once more. The friction between the Alchemy Workshop and the Monsters of Guru Mountain would again become the focal point of their discussions. The Monsters of Guru Mountain might have wanted to question Kuyi Tulan about the original agreement, but they were too exhausted to muster the energy for it at that moment.
Similarly, the Golden Seats of the Alchemy Workshop wanted to ask these monsters why they had taken their Great Mentor...
Their irreconcilable differences had not lessened despite their joint effort against the common enemy, the Dark Force.
Their alliance against the common enemy was one thing, but their own feuds were a separate matter; such deep-seated grudges would not be so easily resolved.
However, at this moment, they were all drained of energy. The brief peace was an unspoken truce, though a fierce confrontation might erupt between them later.
At this moment, Guru Mountain was an oasis of tranquility. The sense of peace that came with the sunrise gradually became the prevailing atmosphere, seemingly unaffected even by the discord between the Alchemy Workshop and the Monsters of Guru Mountain.
Far from Moonflow Stream, two slender peaks pierced the clouds, like twin stairways to heaven.
These were the Twin Peaks of Guru Mountain, also the most mystical place on Guru Mountain.
Beneath the peaks, a white-haired old man sat quietly cross-legged, his face full of benevolence.
Behind the old man, several odd-looking figures were lying or kneeling, appearing utterly defeated.
Opposite the old man, a man in black also sat on the ground, his expression unreadable.
The sunlight was somewhat dazzling. The man in black shifted his body slightly to avoid its direct rays.
The white-haired man opposite him chuckled, his kindhearted laughter, resonant as a great bell, echoing long through the sky.
"I never expected to meet you in such a state," the man in black said calmly, though his respect for the white-haired elder was evident.
"The state hardly matters. I simply find it strange. Why would you mobilize such forces for something Guru Mountain has hidden for so long?"
"I just believe some things shouldn't remain slumbering," the man in black replied. "They ought to be running beneath the sun, just as we do."
The white-haired man sighed. "There are things people cannot control. Their emergence would inevitably cause chaos. We guard not this power, but peace."
"Times change," the man in black retorted. "The world has long become an unbearable burden. Survival of the fittest. Without a certain understanding, I wouldn't have chosen to come here."
"Understanding?" The white-haired man seemed not to grasp the man in black's intent.
"I was once a Soul Guardian," the man in black said with a shrug, "but I found I couldn't protect the entire world. The world is constantly changing. People must accept new things to survive; otherwise, all efforts are futile." He seemed quite accustomed to the white-haired man's confusion.
The white-haired man squinted. He wasn't entirely comfortable in this state; having separated from his physical body, he felt somewhat weakened. Yet, he had to come here. The final line of defense had clearly been breached by the enemy, leaving no room for recovery.
This white-haired man was Grand Master Guzan.
At Moonflow Stream, he had sensed a strange Spirit Power. Tracing this Spirit Power, he had arrived here. Then he realized his worries were justified: the invader had indeed employed a diversionary tactic. The Dark Force at Moonflow Stream had held up their main contingent, while another mysterious power gradually advanced towards the Twin Peaks.
The Great Mentor neither knew nor understood what method the enemy had used to make the guardians of the Twin Peaks fall without a sound.
Moreover, the Great Mentor could clearly sense that this invader was not a physical entity, but merely a projection of will.
He had no clue how this projection of will had arrived, nor how it had launched its attack. He was equally clueless as to how the enemy intended to seize the power they guarded.
"What do you gain by obtaining this power? Conquest? Emotional release?" the Great Mentor continued to ask the man in black. Though they appeared to be merely chatting, they were, in reality, locked in a confrontation.
Both were mere projections of will; ultimately, it was a matter of who could outlast the other.
"You still fail to understand our aspirations," the man in black stated. "We don't desire this power for ourselves; we want everyone to know of its existence."
"I am old. I cannot comprehend the thinking of you young people."
"Indeed. I believe everyone in the world has the right to know what is hidden. Darkness never conceals itself; that is why it can stand equal to daylight, push aside the sun, and achieve Devouring of all things."
"Darkness has never expanded its domain," the Great Mentor countered. "It has always maintained its balance with daylight."
"In this world, everyone has the right to all information. Everyone is born equal. So why are resources so unevenly distributed? Those hidden things belong to everyone, not to any single faction," the man in black asserted, each word delivered with conviction, sounding perfectly reasonable.
"Is this the purpose behind such a large-scale operation?" The Great Mentor still could not understand.
"This is the mission of the Black Crow: to share all information, to make the entire world transparent, where there are no secrets, and everyone can interact with candor."
Hearing this, the Great Mentor couldn't help but sigh.
The invaders of Guru Mountain were the Black Crow, and this man in black was their leader, Willem.
A former Soul Guardian, now an invader—his transformation was baffling...
Yet, it was this complex individual who was now drawing perilously close to the secrets of Guru Mountain.
The sunlight grew a bit more intense than before, yet it didn't affect the situation unfolding here. On this side of Guru Mountain, a momentous change was clearly underway.
