On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 75: Ran Off Early in the Morning
Thinking about how she had run to Jasper Lockwood’s room and was about to sleep with him, Chloe Sterling closed her eyes, too mortified to face anyone.
Especially Jasper Lockwood.
After a few moments of silence, she opened her eyes again. She got up to wash, then changed and went downstairs.
A maid saw her coming downstairs and immediately greeted her, "Good morning, Madam."
"Mm," Chloe Sterling acknowledged, then immediately asked, "Where is the Second Master?"
"The Second Master is waiting for you in the dining room."
After a moment’s thought, Chloe Sterling said, "Go tell the Second Master not to wait for me. Something has come up, and I have to go."
"Madam, are you leaving without breakfast?"
"I’m not eating. Go on and tell the Second Master." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"Very well."
The maid headed to the dining room while Chloe Sterling hurried out of the villa toward the garage.
「In the dining room.」
Jasper Lockwood was looking at his tablet, waiting for Chloe Sterling to come down for breakfast. But instead, the maid approached and said, "Second Master, Madam said not to wait for her. She had something urgent to attend to and has already left."
"She’s already gone?"
"Yes, just now. She seemed to be in a great hurry, so it must have been something urgent."
Jasper Lockwood turned to look out the window. A moment later, the familiar silhouette of her car passed through the estate, heading for the main gate.
So, Chloe had run off.
The corners of his lips curved up slightly. He knew perfectly well she didn’t have anything to do; she was just too embarrassed to see him.
Jasper Lockwood finished breakfast alone and then headed to the office.
Before long, Tristan Sinclair dropped by. He sprawled lazily on the sofa and looked at Jasper Lockwood. "You’re finally back."
Jasper Lockwood glanced at him. "What brings you here? Shouldn’t you be swamped now that you’ve secured that plot of land?"
Tristan Sinclair smiled. "I am busy. I had to fight to carve out some time to see you."
"Something you need?"
"Nothing, just wanted to see you."
"....."
Jasper Lockwood looked up again, his deep, sharp eyes fixed on him. After a pause, he said abruptly, "Just spit it out. Cut the crap."
Tristan Sinclair let out a laugh. "How do you know me so well!"
He couldn’t hide anything from Jasper Lockwood, after all. He did have a reason for being here, but it wasn’t anything major.
"It’s nothing that important, really. It’s about Lynn Chester. I heard that people from Country A’s Apex Group are looking for her, too. Taking her under your wing like this... could it bring you more trouble than she’s worth?"
"I know they’re looking for her." Jasper Lockwood’s expression was indifferent. "She’s one of my people. I can protect what’s mine."
"Of course I know you can protect your own. I just find the whole thing a bit strange. This Lynn Chester has always been a mysterious lone wolf. Why would she suddenly agree to join you? Could it be that she knows various powers are after her, so she deliberately got close to you to seek your protection?"
Jasper Lockwood was unconcerned. "If that’s the case, then she made a smart choice."
Tristan Sinclair raised an eyebrow, surprised. "It seems there’s more to this Lynn Chester than meets the eye."
He had come today just to give Jasper Lockwood a heads-up, but seeing his attitude toward Lynn Chester, it seemed there was no need to say anything more.
When Jasper Lockwood decides to protect someone, he protects them to the very end.
He gave a roguish smile. "Lynn Chester recently surfaced in Country E to save the Lancaster matriarch, so you took her along on your trip there. Your little beauty at home didn’t get jealous? Careful you don’t start a fire in your own backyard."
Jasper Lockwood said, "You should worry more about yourself. If you really can’t find a woman you like, why not try a man?"
Tristan Sinclair was left speechless.
It wasn’t that he had zero interest in women; he just hadn’t met anyone who caught his eye.
Of course, it wasn’t as if he’d never been with a woman. He hadn’t forgotten that night four years ago. He just never found out who the woman was, and his subsequent investigations turned up nothing.
Jasper Lockwood didn’t know about this, and Tristan had never mentioned it to anyone. It was just a one-night accident, nothing he cared much about.
After a moment, Tristan Sinclair chuckled. "A man probably wouldn’t work for me. We’ve known each other for so long—if I were interested in men, you’d be the first one I’d go after. Looking around, is there any man in all of Crestfall more charming than you?"
Jasper Lockwood replied deadpan, "Perhaps your type is more... delicate."
Tristan Sinclair joked, "Maybe I’ll give that a try sometime."
Chloe Sterling skipped The Medical College today and went to Jean Kensington’s apartment instead.
The baby was playing by himself off to the side while the two women chatted over coffee in the living room.
"How’s the new company? Are you settling in okay?" Chloe asked.
"It’s fine, I guess." Jean Kensington took a sip of coffee, a displeased look on her face.
Chloe Sterling crossed her arms and said casually, "That expression on your face doesn’t exactly scream ’fine.’"
"The work itself is fine. It’s just that the company is full of assholes."
"Oh?"
"Just because I’m good-looking, they’re constantly questioning my abilities. Haven’t they ever heard of ’beauty and brains’?"
Chloe chuckled. "With your skills, you could make them shut up in an instant."
Jean Kensington’s lips curled into a smile. "Naturally. I immediately gave them a firsthand demonstration of my skills. But... people who want to think the worst of you always will. Nothing you do can change their minds."
Thinking of certain people and certain events, Chloe’s eyes darkened slightly. "That’s true."
Just then, the baby suddenly came over with a laptop. He pointed at the screen for Jean Kensington, who followed his little finger with her gaze. She froze for a second, then said in astonishment, "Son, are you attacking my company’s website?!"
The baby nodded.
"Why?"
The baby quickly typed out a few words: [They were mean to Mommy.]
Jean Kensington set the laptop aside and pulled him into her arms. "No, sweetheart. Mommy is so capable, how could anyone bully me? Those people are no match for Mommy! Don’t do this again, okay?"
After a moment, the baby nodded.
Seeing her son’s slightly aggrieved expression, Jean Kensington’s heart ached. She added, "Baby, Mommy’s not mad at you. Thank you for protecting me. It’s just... this isn’t the right way to do it. Besides, Mommy is the head of website security, so if you attack the site, I’m the one who has to fix it."
The baby nodded again.
"I’s sorry. Mommy shouldn’t have said all that in front of you and made you worry," Jean Kensington said, hugging her son, filled with regret.
The baby shook his head, showing he didn’t blame her.
A moment later, he took back the laptop, called off the attack, and fixed the vulnerability in the website.
It was just a small website, a simple task for him.
Looking at the little guy, Chloe Sterling felt a pang of guilt. She had cured so many people, yet she couldn’t cure her own godson.
’I have to keep trying. I have to find a way to cure the baby so he can speak.’
"Oh, right, there’s one more thing," Jean Kensington said to Chloe. "I found out that Charles Sterling, the head of Country A’s Apex Group, is also from the Imperial—and from Crestfall, no less. After news that you were in Country E got out, he only sent his subordinates. He didn’t go himself."
"He’s from Crestfall?"
