On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 65: False Accusation
Jasper Lockwood picked up the documents again. Chloe Sterling didn’t go to his side; instead, she walked over to the nearby sofa, sat down, and took out her phone.
Jasper Lockwood glanced up at her but didn’t say anything, returning his attention to the documents.
A moment later, there was a sudden knock on the door, followed by a woman’s voice. "President Lockwood, may I come in? I have a document that needs your review."
Before Jasper Lockwood could speak, Chloe Sterling immediately stood up, walked over, and opened the door. "I’ll take it."
The woman looked at Chloe Sterling, then at Jasper Lockwood sitting inside, and said with a smile, "There are a few issues with the proposal that I need to explain to President Lockwood in person."
After a two-second pause, Chloe Sterling stepped aside, and the woman walked straight in, heading directly for Jasper Lockwood.
Jasper Lockwood remained focused on the documents in his hands, not even lifting his gaze. "Just leave it there."
After a moment’s hesitation, the woman said softly, "President Lockwood, would you be able to look at it now? There are a few issues I need to explain to you."
Jasper Lockwood simply held out a hand without even glancing at her. The woman froze for a second, a flash of resentment in her eyes, before placing the document in his hand.
Flipping through the document the woman had brought, Jasper Lockwood’s tone was serious and cold. "Speak."
The woman was well-prepared. She clearly articulated the problems, then presented her own ideas, and finally asked for Jasper Lockwood’s opinion.
After a moment of thought, Jasper Lockwood said, "That’s acceptable."
A delighted expression appeared on the woman’s face. She smiled and said, "Thank you for your approval, President Lockwood. I’ll proceed with implementing this plan, then."
"Go on." Jasper Lockwood placed the document on the side of his desk.
The woman picked up the document but was unwilling to leave just like that. Jasper Lockwood hadn’t even looked at her. She quickly tried to think of a topic to prolong her stay, but the man’s cold voice suddenly cut in, "Get out!"
Seeing his expression, the woman didn’t dare say another word. She answered with a "Yes," and turned to leave.
Chloe Sterling was still standing to the side. After the woman left, she gave Jasper Lockwood a meaningful look.
A hint of annoyance flickered in her beautiful eyes.
Jasper Lockwood was also looking at her. He caught the faint trace of jealousy in her eyes, and a smile touched his own.
Chloe Sterling averted her gaze and sat back down on the sofa, ignoring him.
’It wasn’t his fault that other women hit on him, but she was still a little upset.’
Sensing his eyes still on her, Chloe Sterling deliberately avoided looking at him. She picked up the glass of water on the table, took a couple of sips, and went back to her phone. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
"Chloe," Jasper Lockwood said suddenly.
Chloe Sterling looked up, her questioning eyes her only response.
"Come here."
"..."
"Come to my side."
"No!"
Jasper Lockwood said leisurely, "As my assistant, you’re not going to listen to your boss?"
After a short pause, Chloe Sterling got up and walked over anyway. The moment she was next to Jasper Lockwood, he pulled her into his lap.
"What are you doing?" Chloe Sterling stared at him in astonishment.
Jasper Lockwood hooked a finger under her chin, his expression devilishly charming. "I’m just checking to see if someone is jealous."
Chloe Sterling’s face instantly flushed red, but she quickly composed herself and looked him straight in the eye. "You called me over just to watch that? To prove your irresistible charm, President Lockwood?"
"My charm needs no proof. What I wanted you to see was... that aside from you, I have no eyes for any other woman."
"..."
"Sir..." Just then, Henry Chamberlain burst through the door, his expression anxious, as if something important had happened. His voice died in his throat when he saw the scene before him!
Flustered, Chloe Sterling immediately pushed Jasper Lockwood’s hand away and stood up.
Henry Chamberlain quickly lowered his head and said cautiously, "I’m sorry, Sir. It’s an emergency."
Jasper Lockwood, however, was perfectly calm. "What is it?"
"Someone is deliberately targeting Madam." With that, Henry Chamberlain strode forward and played a video on his phone for them to see.
Jasper Lockwood’s expression instantly turned cold.
Chloe Sterling’s eyes narrowed, and her hands at her sides clenched into fists.
The video showed her entering an apartment with a baby. People were claiming she was an unmarried mother, a mistress being kept in a high-end apartment.
In today’s hyper-connected world, information spreads fast. The video and the topic were already trending.
[Isn’t that the cool girl who was in that fight before? I used to like her, but I can’t believe she’s this kind of person. Disgusting!]
[I heard she’s a student at the First Medical College of Crestfall. How could she do something like this? Can someone with that kind of character even be a doctor?]
[No, she’s not a student at the Medical College at all. She just managed to sneak in somehow. Who knows what kind of tricks she used.]
[If she’s not a student, how did she get into the Medical College?]
[Who knows what shady means she used.]
[Rumor is she has connections with one of the leaders at the Medical College. She’s really got some moves.]
"Find the person who spread this video and started this topic!" Jasper Lockwood ordered coldly.
Henry Chamberlain replied, "We’re already on it. I’ve also sent people to deal with the trending topic. It will be suppressed soon."
At that moment, Chloe Sterling’s phone rang. It was Jean Kensington. She answered immediately. "Hello."
"Chloe, have you seen the trending topics back home?"
"Yeah, I just saw."
"I don’t know which bastard is spouting this nonsense, but when I find out who it is, I’m going to destroy them!"
Chloe Sterling said, "Don’t worry, I won’t let them off easy, either."
"Do you... have an idea who it is?" Jean Kensington asked.
"I’m not sure. But there are only a few people who would want to mess with me."
"This person has half a brain. The account is anonymous, and the IP address is fake. Looks like this will take some effort. I have to go, I’ll tell you when I find something!"
"Okay."
Just as she hung up, Director Xavier called.
"Chloe, what’s going on with that video online? Is someone deliberately slandering you?"
"Yes," Chloe Sterling said. "That’s my friend’s child. I was just helping her watch the baby for the afternoon."
"I knew it was something like that. Don’t you worry, I’ll help you clear this up!"
"Director Xavier, I can handle this myself. You don’t need to trouble yourself."
"Nonsense. You’re a genius I personally invited to the Medical College. I absolutely will not allow those people to slander you! I have to go. Just wait, I’m going to handle this right now."
With that, Director Xavier hung up.
Chloe Sterling scrolled through the news from back home. The topic’s popularity was already starting to drop, but many paid commenters were still fighting on, their words vicious.
Jasper Lockwood took her phone and said softly, "Stop looking. Leave this to me." Then, he turned to Henry Chamberlain and said, "Have Vincent Henson explain Madam’s relationship with the baby and issue a statement about suing the rumormongers. And don’t mention Madam’s name."
"Yes, sir. I’ll call him immediately."
Vincent Henson was one of the country’s top lawyers. In eleven years of practice, he had never lost a case. His law firm was responsible for all of the Lockwood Group’s legal affairs.
Whether they were corporations or individuals, anyone sued by Vincent Henson met a miserable end.
